Town Linked With Boro Midfielder Guedioura
Sunday, 14th Jan 2018 10:40

Middlesbrough midfielder Adlene Guedioura is reportedly set to depart the Riverside Stadium and be reunited with his former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy at Town.

According to the Sunday People, Boro manager Tony Pulis will allow the 32-year-old to move on during this transfer window, setting up the reunion with McCarthy, the man who brought the Algerian international into English football during his time at Molineux.

Guedioura is unwanted by the Teessiders having made only one start since joining them a year ago, in the 3-2 New Year’s Day win at Preston, in addition to five sub appearances, with a hamstring injury having hampered him for much of his time in the North-East.

He played the full 90 minutes for Boro's U23s in this afternoon's 3-3 draw with Blackburn.

The France-born central midfielder played youth football with Racing Paris before moving on to Sedan, Noisy-le-Sec, L’Entente SSG and Créteil before spells with Belgian clubs Kortrijk and Charleroi.

McCarthy brought him to then-Premier League Wolves in January 2010 initially on loan before making the move a permanent switch for a reported £2 million.

After making 17 starts and 22 sub appearances at Molineux, scoring three times, he moved on to Nottingham Forest, again initially on loan, in January 2012.

Spells at Crystal Palace and Watford followed prior to his switch to Boro in January of last year for a reported £3.5 million, the Teessiders having beaten Hull City to his signature. He signed a contract until 2019.

Central midfield is the area Blues boss McCarthy is looking to strengthen during the transfer window with Town having a number of players sidelined with injuries, three of them - Andre Dozzell, Emyr Huws and Teddy Bishop - for the rest of the season.

A move for a midfielder he knows well as cover for the remainder of the season would be little surprise.

Speaking when signing Guedioura in 2010, McCarthy said: "Adlene is an all-round midfield player who is very mobile.

"Technically he is very good and has the physical characteristics to be able to cope with the Premier League.”

Elsewhere, Sunderland are reported to have joined the Blues, Reading and QPR in showing interest in Barnsley striker Tom Bradshaw.

Town were said to be among the clubs eyeing the 25-year-old earlier in the week, although signing another striker is currently not a priority.

Meanwhile, Suffolk Constabulary have confirmed Leeds fans threw bottles, broken chairs and a "flashbang" during the Blues’ 1-0 victory over the Whites yesterday afternoon.

Reports of a coin being thrown are also being investigated, however, no arrests were made and there were no clashes between the two sets of fans.

The “flashbang” and broken chairs were thrown after Eunan O’Kane’s red card for head-butting Jonas Knudsen, while the bottles followed Bersant Celina’s winning goal, according to a police spokesman.

“Bottles were thrown by Leeds fans towards the Sir Bobby Robson Stand,” he said. “The Leeds fans also broke chairs and threw them.”

Town gave the Whites an additional 1,000 or so tickets for Saturday's match - they brought a total of 3,537 fans - and they were given the majority of the seats in the upper tier of the Cobbold Stand with a number of Blues season ticket holders having to be relocated.

The Suffolk Constabulary spokesman added: “It looks like they misbehaved somewhat."

One of the best CMs in the championship a couple of years ago. Always hoped we might get him at some point so personally would be well pleased if we can get him.

Sorry Phil and Gav I rarely find fault with the content of this excellent site but there are two topics in this article that are totally unconnected and my gut have been posted separately.
On the subject of Geudioura - we need all the help we can get. We sometimes struggle to even fill the bench. I guess if true, this will be a loan deal and subject to a medical.
On the matter of Leeds fans' behaviour - we showed them respect and allowed over 3,500 of them to watch the game. Unfortunately, a few of them reverted to type and behaved like the mindless idiots they are. The outcome should be simple . Next seoson - zero tickets.
