Skipper Luke Chambers believes that Town are still in there fighting for a play-off place and says he and his team-mates need the backing of the Blues’ support if they are to finish in the top six as they did in the 2014/15 campaign.

Town are currently 12th in the Championship, eight points off the play-offs with 15 matches left to play.

“We are still in there fighting for a top-six place but we need to put a run together,” Chambers told the club site.

“You could ask what right do we have to be challenging for the play-offs though. When you look at the clubs in the Championship and see what some are getting from the parachute payments, what it is - £40 million this year - and look at the millions that some clubs are throwing at it, it’s nowhere near a level playing field.

“We’re still in there though. We know it’s going to be a big ask but we will be giving it a right good go.

“We need the supporters to stay with us though. No one wants a situation when one bad pass or a missed opportunity changes the mentality of people from positive to negative. I think a lot of that goes on in the game now everywhere.

“When we made the play-offs three years ago, the fans pulled us through games on occasions. When we needed a lift from the stands, we got it. You need that sometimes but we also know it’s down to what we do on the pitch to get the fans going as well.”

Seems the idea of we have no divine right to be in the playoffs, is getting spread around quite a lot at the club. Think people moaning about the cash need to look at, Cardiff, Preston, Sheffield United all in and around the playoffs all season and playing some nice football. Even Burton struggling down the bottom played some football at times Saturday

As Lincoln and Pompey did over two games in the last few years If we had money to spend half the old boys currently playing week in week out whatever the performance is like , getting new contracts so everyone is happy to plod on picking up their wages under no threat . MM forced to use youngsters at start of the season due to injuries now we have all the old boys back in and loads of loan players same as MM does every season and results always worse after Christmas

Sears was standing nearest to the player that scored an og, and he came out to boost our flagging enthusiasm! We've zero chance of making the playoffs this season and to borrow a phrase from our beloved manager “as long as I've got a hole in my ar*e”.

cat added 15:27 - Feb 13 A very rousing war cry from our very own ‘Captain calamity hoofball Chambo' doing what he does best, but in reality his talking pony and is a big part of our problem. Hoofball made a return on Saturday, more so in the first half when aimless balls upfield were either meet with an offside flag or our 5ft 9 target man could not get on the end of them, why? cause we not capable of playing football & retaining possession, thus incapable of breaking down teams like the mighty Burton. I hope Webster's bench warming of late is because he's been injured a lot and not part of the Dinos love of them favourites or loanees. Back to back wins would be good (lol) yet he's talking about putting a run of games together. Your pishing in the wind Chambo.

ipswichben added 15:33 - Feb 13 The money in football debate will go on and on. In fairness even Cardiff spent £6 million just now on an average Championship striker in Gary Madine. We simply cannot compete with that level of transfer fee and I will be amazed if Sheff Utd and/or Preston reach the play offs as their small squads will drop off from now. Results like Saturday shows us where we are. A team full of endeavour but lacking in real quality on a consistent basis. This is our reality now and I cannot see a change of management making too much difference in our overall position in the league but the entertainment may well improve. No investment, no hope. That's football these days. Sorry to be bleak but that's the way I see it.

Is it any wonder the quality of football and a performance like Saturday that fans become disgruntled and get frustrated?

It has to be earned and that dismal display when, the the exception of 2, no one bothered or even tried to play football. 50/50 tackles became 70/30 in favour of Burton, passes weren't accurate,headers weren't directed and the general demeanour of the players was a slap in the face to fans. Chambers, you ought to stop and think about those who continually come along to watch sometimes even when they really cant afford it week in and week out. They pay your wages .THEY are the ones that deserve the support, and certainly they deserve better than you and your team mates are offering. Don't tell me/us what we should be doing.

Luke Chambers I actually said at the beginning of the season after the 4 match winning streak I bet this is the highlight of the season and we don't put another 4 wins in a row together again. If McCarthy manages to put a run together it will be the first time in the 2nd half of the season other than the 2012/13 one when he pulled us away from relegation - can't see it happening.

htb added 16:34 - Feb 13 Did not appear to give it a right go on Saturday. In truth how many of us have thought we have a real chance of getting in the play offs let alone being promoted this year. In order for us to believe we need a change of manager (if not owner) who promotes a style of play from youth to academy to first team that we can all believe in and be proud of. Then if we can get a club that everyone who cares about it, can believe in, we can once again achieve what we have in the past. Even in this modern day it is possible if someone can create a vision that all believe in. Huddersfield, Burnley sadly Watford show it is possible. More years with McCarthy no chance..

Wickets added 16:49 - Feb 13 Ipswich Town support has always been very good, as the Leeds game showed but the players need to lead from the front, show that they care. Then and only then will Chambers and the team get what they are asking for. It is just about impossible to roar approval for everybody behind the ball defensive football ! 2 goals in last 6 home matches ! sorry but who's gonna roar at that!
