Bialkowski Players' Player of the Year
Tuesday, 1st May 2018 23:54

Town keeper Bartosz Bialkowski was named the Blues’ Players’ Player of the Year at this evening’s End of Season Dinner at Milsoms Kesgrave Hall.

The 30-year-old Poland international previously won the Players’ Player of the Year in 2016 with Tom Lawrence the squad’s pick last year.

Bialkowski was named the Supporters Club’s Player of the Year for the third season running at the recent Player Awards Evening, when he also picked up the Ultimate Supporters Award (formerly the Away Match Passport Holders Award) for the second year in a row.

He also added the Corporate Customers, Sponsors and Box Holders' Player of the Season award to his mantelpiece this evening, again for the third year running.

The winner of this year's John Kerridge Memorial Trophy, the coaches’ choice award rather than the manager’s this year, was 15-goal top scorer Martyn Waghorn.

Midfielder Flynn Downes was announced as the Young Player of the Year at the Players’ Awards event, academy manager Lee O’Neill having selected the England U19 international who has been on loan at Luton during the second half of the season.

Bersant Celina’s superb strike in the 1-0 home victory over Leeds United was named the Goal of the season.

Guests of honour at this evening’s dinner were several members of the squad which won the FA Cup in 1978 with Sunday the 40th anniversary of the final.

Absolutely well deserved!

Brilliant keeper, saved us on many occasions this season, a Town legend and a true gentleman!

Please please sign the new contract...

Well deserved and the best goalkeeper in the league. However, my personal choice would've been Martyn Waghorn. 15 goals and 10 assists is a fantastic return for such a small transfer fee.

Well deserved and easily the best goalkeeper in this league. Kept us in games we really shouldn't have been in and has pulled off some unbelievable saves. Hopefully Waghorn will make a play for the title next season, if he'd have shown consistency he may well have won the award this year.

Let's hope Bart has less to do next season!

100% deserved.Without doubt the best keeper outside the Premier league.Has almost certainly kept us in this league.Just hope he decides to sign a further contract.A team needs a backbone and he has been that for the past three seasons.

Couldn't have been anyone else by a country mile well done Bart.

How many points did he save us? How many games would we have lost or drawn without his saves? I'd be interested to know how many dead certain attempts he stopped if there is a geek out there to do the calculation.
One thing is certain - without him we would definitely be playing Sunderland in League 1 next season.
Sadly I don't think he will be with us next season.

Without any doubt a well deserved award. Clearly the top keeper in this division and I fear that with his clear ambitions of playing for Poland, he will have to move on to the PL to achieve that.

It is great to see a keeper justly rewarded as keepers have been the unsung hero of many a team over the years. Bearing this in mind, the fact that Bart has won the supporters vote 3 times in a row and the players, vote twice out of the last three, does highlight the mediocrity of the performances from the others over the last three years.

A contributory factor to Bart's development as a keeper must be the work done by Malcom Webster who will be retiring at the end of the season. Another who will be sorely missed.

Fully agree he deserves it with Waggy a close second. Think there will be no decision on his new contract until he sees who the new manager is. Understandable I guess!

Well done Bart! Of course we will take the option of the additional year to his contract but hopefully he signs a new deal. Fingers crossed he gets selected in the Poland squad for the World Cup!

Nice if we have more competition for this award for outfield players in upcoming seasons. Not defenders!

Well done Bart! We do have the option of an additional year anyway but hopefully he will sign a new deal shortly. No real competition for player of the year this year. Hope next year there are some serious contenders.

Well done Bart cruises to the award again!...Waghorn most probably second but about time some outfield players started upping their game.

Congratulations Bart - well deserved - another excellent season - shame this cant be said for too many others [ Waghorn excepted ] I expect some wholesale changes from the new manager and lets hope ME stumps up some cash

Waghorn has been brilliant but the 29 MOM for Bart tips the balance for me in his favour. Could even be 30 depending on what happens on Sunday. That has to be some sort of record surely, if not just for Town but in the whole league perhaps ?

I'd love him to be in contention next year but not win it. That means he stayed, played well but was outshone by an outfield player at last!

Not surprised at this - he must have been everyones Player of the Year - without whom we could so easily have been looking at League 1 next season.

Well done Bart, nearly a clean sweep;but pleased Martyn Waghorn got the coaches trophy, and Bersant for the best goal.Dont think even Bart could have managed that one lol ? Ironic that the best young player was farmed out by McCarthy.Flynn Downes one of several former academy players, who should be knocking on the first team door next season.

Waggy has had a very good season,as well as the goalkeeper;being the leading goalscorer, and supplier. One of the few who have managed to stay injury free.

If all our sicknotes return next season, then may only need a couple of additions.

Did he almost mistakenly give something away in his interview? He was on the point of wishing his team mates well when he appeared to realise his slip and amended his comment to thanking them instead.

I do fear we will lose Bart. If so, I hope we at least get some decent money for him. But the very best solution would be if he signed on the dotted line asap. Come on Bart. You know it makes sense, 'cos the future is Blue!

Without Bart we would either be down or at best chewing our finger nails last day. Well deserved.
