Championship Trio in McGoldrick Talks
Tuesday, 3rd Jul 2018 16:18

Former Blues striker David McGoldrick is reported to be in talks with Aston Villa - who TWTD revealed were showing interest in the Republic of Ireland international in January - West Brom and Bristol City having left Portman Road in May.

According to Football Insider, Villa, the Baggies and Robins have all contacted the 30-year-old free agent.

McGoldrick wasn’t offered new terms by the Blues when his previous contract was up at the end of last season but in any case the former Nottingham Forest and Southampton man was keen to move closer to his family home in the East Midlands, which suggests Villa Park or the Hawthorns would be destinations which would appeal more than Ashton Gate.

If any of them secured his signature with a “pay when you play” caveat, then it'd be a good signing.
Good luck to what even club doesn't get that in place.

Wherever he ends up I wish him well when fit he is capable of giving any defence a big problem! but as we know fitness has been his biggest problem.

About the most skilful player we have had here since Magilton. However unlike Super Jim, DM seemed to slow our play down too often and certainly won't fit with the quick transitions PH will be looking to repeat at ITFC. Some great moments but ultimately never was going to get us over the line. Hope he stays fit, he deserves at least that.

Sick note for 98% of his time here and Forest before us, doubt that trend will change tbh. So “ good luck” to him for his final big pay day , and an even bigger “ good luck” message to the Club that takes him in. Silky skills he has in abundance , but it's rarely seen due to his chronic injury record.

I say this in the nicest way possible. I do not care. This guy has took a lot of money from our club for the longest time hardly ever playing. I just don't care anymore. Let's focus on the future!!!

Any club that signs him will be taking a huge gamble - he will not play more than 5 consecutive games before getting injured. Yes he is skilful, but has no pace whatsoever. Thanks for some good memories and good luck.

Unfortunately fitness was a problem with most players under Mick McCarthy.
Made to run here, chase there, cover there.
As I have said before, DM is / was one of the most capable players that we have had over the last 5 years, and if trained correctly and played in the correct position will be so for a future club.
I just think it is a real shame it is not us

Love him as a player but and I hope this's doesnt sound mean, I'll be annoyed if he signs for someone in our division and has an injury free season.... if we'd had one of those from him we may have been in the play offs more than once under MM

Nothing but thanks for all he did here and wish him all the best wherever he ends up.

Certainly very good when he was on the job but sadly that was not often enough given the money spent on him. I wish him all the best
I was always suspicious of the training methods under MM with so many getting injured in training or the games, although the latter would seem to be higher risk. Will be very interested to watch this aspect under PH.

KiwiBlue2, I think Hurst mentioned in one of his TWTD interviews that the coaching/fitness staff would be looking at the situation of the amount of players on the treatment table for long periods. Also at methods to alleviate it.

Thanks Ronnyd . There was a bit of debate last year as the injuries were piling up. I wondered if some of them were due to poor management of players activities around warm ups, stretching etc
