Bolton Boss Confirms Garner Interest as Trotters Lodge Bids
Friday, 3rd Aug 2018 23:58

Bolton manager Phil Parkinson has confirmed his interest in Joe Garner with the Trotters having made six-figure offers for two frontmen, one of them reportedly the Blues striker.

“He’s a player I’ve admired since his time at Preston, he’s one of a number of players we’re looking at,” the former Colchester boss said ahead of the Trotters' opening game at West Brom.

Garner has been on Bolton's radar for much of the summer with reports earlier in the week claiming they were set to step up their pursuit.

The Blackburn-born frontman was initially linked with Bolton in late June when it was said they were willing to pay £500,000 for his services with the former Preston man believed to be keen on a return to the North-West.

By the sound of things he does not fit in to Paul Hurst plans so not real lost need to replace him though

Can't see Garner fitting in with PH's system, so this would be best for all parties.

Anything above what we paid for hm would be a bonus. Never really did it for me last year. Personally I would rather seee one of our younger forwards given game time even if it's off the bench.

Why should we accept £500k when he cost £750k last year?

Why bother with somebody who spends so much energy in playing the player not the ball?

No great loss. Let's get the best price we can.

We signed Garner for £750k and it was hailed as a bargain so if he goes for £500k that seems cheap. Norwich signed Watkins on a free, he was a big flop, so they sold him for £1m reportedly.

500k for a player who chipped in with 10 goals in 32 appearances last season, sounds like a bargain to me. We're being quoted 2.5 million for players that have yet to prove it in the Championship. Makes no sense to sell him unless it's over 1 million. A different option if things aren't working. 500k is unlikely to get you a striker that chips in with more than 10 goals a season at this level in my opinion.

McCarthy said it was under 500k combined for him and waghorn so where you're all getting this 700k figure from I have no idea

I thought he cost about 200k.

I'd keep him rather than seeing him score 10 goals for our rivals. 500K isn't going to get us much at the moment...and he's a handful on his day.

More then happy for him to go.

His constent antics slow the game down and antaganize the ref, perfect fit for Bolton.

Can't believe people on here want Joe to go. He is a proven Championship performer unlike all of our signings. We are going to need that grit and snarling to support our youngsters. Might not score volumes but can never be faulted for effort.

Very little point of selling unless we can bring in another permanent addition as a replacement and for £500K that's likely to be difficult.

Harrison will be in front of Garner so sell for £500 and put that to the Jackson fee....that £2mill plus a sell on clause. That's far better than Bogle on loan

Garner supposedly cost us three times as much as Waggy a year ago, so if the latter is valued at £8m now let's ask £24m.
