Giggs Monitoring Welsh Blues
Thursday, 30th Aug 2018 09:05

Wales manager Ryan Giggs has revealed he is keeping tabs on Town’s Welsh trio Emyr Huws, Gwion Edwards and Ellis Harrison.

None of the three are in the squad for the UEFA Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Denmark during the international break, but Giggs says they are among those in his thoughts going forward.

“With the news of Hal [Robson-Kanu’s international retirement] there’s a spot there and there’s a few options,” he said.

“I watched Tyler Roberts [of Leeds, who is in the current squad] on Tuesday and he did well. It’s a chance for me to look at him and a chance for him to shine.

“Gwion Edwards is someone who we’ve been monitoring, Ellis Harrison as well, Emyr Huws, George Thomas [Leicester, on loan at Scunthorpe] and Rabbi Matondo [Manchester City].

“Depending on form and injuries there will be a lot of changing about in the next three camps.”

Huws has previously won 12 full caps, scoring once, but Edwards and Harrison, who have both featured at U21 level, are still to make their senior debuts.

Harrison is yet to receive a senior call-up, while Edwards was in the squad for the 2014 Euro 2016 qualifiers against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus when a Crawley Town player without featuring in either game, coincidentally having been drafted in as a late replacement for Huws.

Edwards should be in it undersatand huws not included due to fitness and Harrison (on the watchlist after his “big move”) but Edwards has stepped up with ease therefore must be next in line surely.

Fully fit Emyr Huws, walks into Ipswich and Wales team. Gwion is in fantastic form and definitely deserves a call-up.

Could you imagine the uproar on here if our "League 1" players with no championship experience got an international call-up?

These comments from Giggs could give them a little bit more motivation to find some form in the coming weeks. Good luck to them!

Should he be picked, then Giggs will be able to help Gwion with some of his experience of playing in a similar position

Would leave to see them all get in. (Being half Welsh). Regarding Emyr I'll be so glad when we get him fully fit in our team. I feel a lot of us have forgotten just how good a player he is.
