Knudsen: I Want to Talk About a New Contract But First Move Must Come From Owner
Thursday, 13th Sep 2018 15:14

Town defender Jonas Knudsen has reaffirmed his desire to remain with the club but insists the first move about a new contract must come from owner Marcus Evans.

Knudsen, who celebrates his 26th birthday on Sunday, is in the final year of his current deal after the club triggered their one-year option on his services — and he is adamant he does not want to leave, either in the January transfer window or next summer when he will be free to move on.

The Dane said: “Of course I would like to hear something from the club. I haven’t heard anything from the owner and it is down to him. I want to talk but the first move has to come from him and then we have to take it from there.

“I would like to have a look at a new contract, and also sign a new contract, because I have been happy here for over three years now.

“But I also have to look after myself because I’m in the last year of my Ipswich contract and I need to know what is going to happen. I would like to speak with him and see what’s going on.”

Asked if he saw himself as part of new boss Paul Hurst’s plans going forward, Knudsen replied: “Yes, of course. I still have a year, I’m a Town player and I really enjoy playing for them. It’s a new start and new starts take a little bit of time because we all have to get used to each other.

“I’m excited about it and the players he has brought in, but the most important thing right now is to get some more points on the board.

“Of course we want to play some very good football — and I think we have been — but we have to be clinical.

“That’s what the game is all about, being clinical in both boxes. You want to score goals at one end and not give away silly goals at the other.

“I see myself as a part of it. It’s still new and we have to get used to it, but I’m enjoying it and I’ve enjoyed it the whole time I’ve been here.”

How different is life at the club since Paul Hurst took charge? Knudsen added: “It’s a little bit different under the new manager. He still wants to be solid but he wants us to play a little bit more, maybe, than we did under the old gaffer.

“That’s maybe a good thing because that’s what some people were asking for and that’s what we have tried to do this season.

“I know we have not got as many points as we would have wanted but we have to admit we have conceded some stupid goals.

“We have to cut them out of our game and make sure we have a clean sheet on Saturday at Hull because that makes it a lot easier to win a game.

“I like to play football but I’m open to anything, whether it’s Mick McCarthy’s style of football or Paul Hurst’s style of football.

“It’s not as if I have to play only one style of football because as a player you play as your manager asks you to play.

“I will be happy to play a little bit more football but this is still a new group of players and we have still to get to know each other a bit more.

“We are still in the first part of the process but there are some exciting things about it.”

Well Mr Knudsen it wasn't that many months ago you said ( after McCarthy left), that you didn't like the treatment Mike got from the fans and that would now have to review your position at this Club.

Maybe Hurst is reviewing YOUR position at this Club. Let's be honest , if Villa has bid for you , you'd have left in a shot.

I'm really not fussed if you go tbh!

If a bid comes in for you in January, please accept it and go. You are one of our worst performers, were shocking against Norwich and I hate long throw tactics, so will get rid of that rubbish too !

As usual I see Knudsen is being slagged off on the news comments.

He's actually a very decent LB. Hence why Wolves, Villa etc have all enquiries about him.

ArnieM... I think he was right, he's allowed to have an opinion. I didn't like how we treated Mick, it was embarrassing even if it was a minority. That should have no standing on anyones opinion of him. He's been a good player for us and was playing at the World Cup this summer, that must say something about his ability.

I don't think three comments represent all of the news commenters. A bit like judging the forum based simply on benters comments.

Think most on here will think that he is a decent lb.

indifferent is the only way to describe Knudsen- he's either good or bad, he's never just solid.

Regarding the comments, whilst he's in his own opinion, he has to remember he is an employee, and the club pay him, not the other way round. And the club is funded a lot by a combination of Evans and the fans.

Its like MM telling the fans to Efffff Off. That may well be what he felt, he's perfectly entitled to feel that after the treatment he got. But you cant do that representing the club. Its as simple as that.

TrueBlue - indifferent is the polar opposite of "he's either good or bad" where I'm from

Simply get over the past ,its gone & even players are totally entitled to express an opinion about poor / bad mannered behaviour which sadly has engendered widespread comment about the unusual standards at ITFC !!
Please let's move on , enjoy the efforts being made and ENCOURAGE rather than concentrate on criticism ,some of a mean minded nature ; let's all become again true supporters !
Up the Blues !!

After 3 years, I think Jonas still has everything to prove and I am still not convinced.
He's reasonably solid but at times can be a liability with defending. Going forward, I think Myles K is a much more competent and attack minded player. I would love to see him given more of a run in the side.

Evans doesn't exactly have a record of offering early contract renewals, so can't see this happening in the next few weeks.

Somebody wants to feel wanted. Bless him. The reality is, he's the worst left back we've had in years. He's not strong, he's not fast, he doesn't have good distribution and I don't know if we've scored from one of his throw ins. I'm not saying he's terrible, but I'm not sure what exactly he offers and yes we should be looking for an upgrade at some point.
