Walters Out for Six Months Wednesday, 26th Sep 2018 16:58 Striker Jon Walters will be out for six months having suffered a partial rupture of his achilles during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers. The 35-year-old was forced off shortly after coming on as a sub against his former club.
"One-time skipper Walters rejoined the Blues late in August on loan from Burnley until January and now won’t play again before that spell is due to end.
Walters, who has made just two starts and the weekend sub appearance without scoring, will return to Turf Moor to undergo his rehabilitation.
The Republic of Ireland international, who had missed the match against Brentford having initially suffered an achilles problem in the previous game at Hull, underwent a scan at the weekend, then saw a specialist in London today where he was given the bad news regarding the extent of the injury.
“I’m obviously gutted with the news,” Walters told the club website. “That’s football though. That’s life I suppose as well and while I’m really disappointed, there are a lot of people worse off than me.""
“I’ll work hard and get back to fitness as soon as I can. I’ve enjoyed being back here and I want to wish the club all the best for the rest of the season.”

Speaking after Saturday's game, manager Paul Hurst admitted it was an incorrect call to include Walters.
“Clearly it was the wrong decision to involve him and I’m the one to make that decision," he said.
"But I think Jon would certainly be the first one to say that he trained yesterday [Friday] and said he felt fine.

“We said we’d look at it again in the morning to see if anything developed overnight and he said he felt fine.
“He’s an experienced pro, I’m sure desperate to be involved, but if he didn’t feel he was right he wouldn’t have put himself up for selection."
Walters's injury means Hurt will no longer have to make a decision on which of his six loanees to leave out of his matchday squad with only five permitted.

MM would have been prepared for this eventuality. Meanwhile I have a feeling our illustrious leader is scrolling through the PFA Free Agent list. I hope our club doesn't think we need a replacement. We are in big trouble, and we do.

Swn98...... Really no need to call your fellow supporters numbskulls. We all know you are very pro Mccarthy but he had to go. Hurst wasn't my choice nor was he others but we need an experienced person or persons to steady the ship for the rest of the season. George B and Terry B would make excellent temporary management and then who knows. Mccarthy was finished and Hurst is out of his depth. Please stop the insults and stick together

Dozzel is coming back from a major injury, it makes sense not to rush him back. Walters has been around a bit, he should be trusted to judge his own fitness. His injury could be career ending, but as he's 35 already that's not exactly a tragedy. Dozzel on the other hand has his whole career ahead of him.

No probs Becarefulwhatyouwishfor. Opinions vary and that is healthy. What I can't stand is the insults from a minority including the one I commented on.

I haven't been impressed by Hurst and I said that starting with the Blackburn game. However, If the media staff and Jon himself declares he is fit then Hurst can't be blamed for playing him. I was shocked to see him running u and down teh touchline as I thought he would be out for 6 weeks resting that achilles & so it proved. Sadly. Jon was a great signing and gave us all a massive boost. He said he was fit when he joined and certainly looked it against Norwich.

Huge shame for a town legend. Could be end of his career. Horrible injury. Leaves us very short again up front. Darren Bent without a club ! Just saying ?

I'm no massive Evans fan, but I see people here moaning about the lack of investment, but at the same time, (rightly), also complaining the academy players are not getting a chance. Surely, if Evans was that tight, he'd be advocating the youth that costs us nothing more stay and play and not spending anything? Sometimes, a Manager has to protect a player like JW who wants to play. The fact that he (either with or without the physio's advice) couldn't see this, shows a lack of experience. Definitely a learn that could prove costly to JW as well as us. For me, as others have said, the summer releasing and recruitment policy is the issue and I really do hope things will start to click into place. It's not looking promising.

Someone asked if Jack Ross would have done better. From what I have seen of this Hurst clown, Diana Ross would have been better. If nothing else, she could at least belt out a couple of numbers at half time to help lift the spirits!!!

This club is owned by a man who has £ signs where his eyes should be, so unlikely to replace even a manager so clearly out of his depth. Paul Hurst has lost this team he scrambled together and is no longer capable of inspiring confidence in them to win. Our only hope of avoiding relegation now is that Hurst fall on his sword and create space for a more experienced manager to step in before its too late.

How about Nick Ross from Crimewatch??. At least he could show a photofit of our owner in an attempt to find the missing millions from our summer firesale.!!

...perhaps it's time to remember that City were in League 1 not so long ago. IMO Town should have been relegated long ago and able to rebuild properly but this idiot owner thinks he knows better!!

Only one man who definitely could've saved ITFC from this mess and that ship sailed months ago. While there's no daylight between the teams at the bottom, there's still a slim chance of a turnaround, slimmer by the week,i accept.

*THE MISTAKE* "With the mistake your life goes in reverse. Now you can see exactly what you did Wrong yesterday and wrong the day before And each mistake leads back to something worse And every nuance of your hypocrisy Towards yourself, and every excuse Stands solidly on the perspective lines And there is perfect visibility. What an enlightenment. The colonnade Rolls past on either side. You needn't move. The statues of your errors brush your sleeve. You watch the tale turn back – and you're dismayed. And this dismay at this, this big mistake Is made worse by the sight of all those who Knew all along where these mistakes would lead – Those frozen friends who watched the crisis break. Why didn't they say? Oh, but they did indeed – Said with a murmur when the time was wrong Or by a mild refusal to assent Or told you plainly but you would not heed. Yes, you can hear them now. It hurts. It's worse Than any sneer from any enemy. Take this dismay. Lay claim to this mistake. Look straight along the lines of this reverse." ― James Fenton, 'Out of Danger'
