McCarthy: No Sympathy With Fans Who Hounded Me Out
Friday, 26th Oct 2018 19:16

Former boss Mick McCarthy says the section of the Town support who were hounded him out have “got what they deserved” and he has “no sympathy” with them following the Blues’ disastrous start to the season which has led to his successor Paul Hurst departing only 14 games into the Championship season.

“It’s sad for Paul Hurst,” McCarthy told talkSPORT2. “They did make a lot of changes — a lot of players left and maybe a couple of the signings haven’t worked out instantly.

“I think they were unlucky in a couple of games and it can change around so quickly and all of a sudden you’re on the slide. I’m not one to be talking too much about it to be honest.”

Reflecting on his time at Portman Road and the way it ended he added: “I had my spell there, I loved it, enjoyed it and some of them made their feelings known and it’s not worked out for them since I’ve left, has it?

“I’ll make it clear, it wasn’t everybody. It was a fair section of them and I had a real happy time there because there are a lot of good people and I feel for them.

“But I have to say, the ones that were hounding me for 18 months to two years, I’ve got no sympathy for them at all. They’ve got what they deserved.”

Moving on to tomorrow’s game at Millwall which new manager Paul Lambert, whose appointment will be confirmed first thing tomorrow morning with a press conference pencilled in for Tuesday, will watch from the stands, McCarthy added: “It’s never easy going to the Den. So it’s going to be a tough old job for Paul if he gets the job. I like Paul Lambert.”

The incoming boss is understood to have agreed a three-year deal with Stuart Taylor set to be his assistant and Jim Henry Town's new fitness coach, the pair having left Stoke along with Lambert at the end of last season.

Boring boring football
Swearing at supporters at Norwich
Calling our supporters numbskulls
The only way is Mick,s way
Nearly six years of hearing how good he is
Done a good job in the early years but no entertainment for the last 2-3 years
A large drop in attendances tells the story
Sorry Mick your time was well and truly up

@Blueblood - wolves are doing terribly aren't they...

Plus - He's right

It HASN'T worked out for us this season (since he left)
I bet he HASN'T got any sympathy for those who hounded him out, why would he?

What gets me the most is the amount of "numbskulls" eager to prove him right

Fair play Mick. He never dodged a question. Never hid from the fans giving him dogs abuse. Always the last to leave the pitch even after a terrible home performance. Seeing the position we are in now compared to last year just shows he did a decent job here. Some of the football was hard to watch but that is the Championship. Only Fulham were fantastic last season. Made some great signings that made the club huge profits. Attracted quality loan signings, most of whom he turned into better players. Never appreciated by many of the Town fans who are stuck in the past. Still can't believe how many here think we are a big club/want Burley back. The huge irony is for all the fans that wanted McCarthy out, well now you have Paul Lambert. A very similar manager. He deserves a medal if he keeps us up.

I'd feel the same if I was him. He's not having a go at everyone, just a small section.

The treatment dished out to him, which was both understandable and utterly ignorant, I think he can take. He's a tough lad, whether you like him or not. What irked him, and still irks me now, was the moronic abuse hurled at the players during the dying days. I honestly can't believe how they kept going, and whatever you think of his style of football, it's testament to his man-management that they did. Towards the end of the season, I heard Waghorn and Webster repeatedly being called a c*** from the Bobby Robson stand, only by a few, but you think they didn't hear it in the sterile atmosphere? Same abuse towards others who are still here, but can you honestly question why those two would want to leave? Fans need to take responsibility for this mess too. I use the word fans in the loosest possible sense, when it comes to a certain number of gobby so'n'sos...

Reading comments on here from McCarthy supporters and McCarthy haters concerns me if I'm honest. The man is not our manager anymore and until everybody puts this to bed and joins forces and gets behind reuniting and supporting itfc together sooner the better. How are things going to improve if some fans use this as a site to snipe at fellow ipswich fans.

No wonder the bloke left. Would you take some of the crap that he was getting? It was clear that those whinging & moaning about the football being played actually don't have a clue about football. He became twisted towards the end because he probably felt he was doing the best he could with the resources he had. Punched way above their weight & the numbskulls think we should be playing like Barcelona. FFS.

Some pathetic comments on here. Remember why he told some fans to F off. He made a substitution at Norwich. His own fans told him he doesn't know what he's doing. We scored. He told them to F off. Fair enough. What person on here who has any pride in what they do wouldn't do the same? And as for goading him for not having a job, seriously, the man is a millionaire and will end up somewhere else soon as you all know. He used to say be careful what you wish for. Well, we are bottom of the league and have an ex Norwich manager coming in. Great.

To all you MM worshippers - at least a dozen of you - he had NO respect for you, or any other Supporter, remember he aimed F- off to you, as well as anyone else.

Some of you, if not all, hardly know what a Football is, and would be happy with you Scarf, Pie, and Pint at Portman Road, as long as a ball was kicked.

Thankfully we're not all like you - How about learning a bit about entertaining Football in your life, instead of contentment watching boring RUBBISH.

We want success, and for the Club to entertain - not boring mediocrity, which is all we would ever have had with McCarthy and his insulting mouth.

"I'm not one to be talking too much about it to be honest"

What a laugh. Not so much that you turned down the interview eh Mick? If you were Talksports producer, who would you want to give air time to today?? Terry Nutkins - he may not have rung up talksport but given the chance to be bitter and twisted whilst pretending to be magnanimous and respectful, he just couldn't turn it down could he? One of the enduring hallmarks of ego centred leaders in any walk of life is how they delude themselves about "small minorities" and revise history to somehow position themselves as the victim of it all. Another enduring feature is how failure makes what went before somehow more palatable but isn't it interesting that even in our most darkest hour, with League 1 staring us in the face after 62 years, no one, even swn98, is saying lets have him back or even we were wrong to ditch his greatness? And no one else seems to want him either. funny that Mick me old mucker, maybe they've got their own bunch of Mick hating hounders obscuring your greatness before you've even got there....

I never believe in telling supporters to go elsewhere - but - with any luck he may get a job soon at non league level, and take his few supporters with him. Thus ridding the Club of such negativity, through such negative people.

Non League Football may suit them all fine.

I listened to the interview in full it gave a very balanced and honest precis of his time at Town.
Anyway Mr lambert is here now so lets see what he can do for us.

On another note Timmyh Please refrain from PM me i have no wish to enter into Private dialogue with you for whatever reason.

@StirlingArcher

Yes, Wolves WERE doing terribly and went from the Premier League to League One after he left his mess behind. Same as every other club he's left.

You say how well it's worked for us since he left but I notice he's not getting a sniff of a good job elsewhere so the same could be said for him.

I do think it got out of hand with Mick but it was 6 of one, he didn't help himself at times.

That Hurst sucked doesn't mean you didn't deserve your fate, Mick. Now, f&ck off.

Blueboy calling someone negative. Oh the irony. This is a guy who has managed at the World Cup and you seriously think he will end up at non league? You are making yourself look ridiculous. And no, I am not a ‘worshipper'. Just a realist. At the moment, I don't care how sh1te our football is if it keeps us up.
