Roberts Surprise Full Debutant as Lambert Era Starts Against Preston
Saturday, 3rd Nov 2018 14:21

Jordan Roberts is the surprise inclusion in Paul Lambert’s first Town team facing Preston North End at Portman Road this afternoon.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Blues in the summer having left Crawley at the end of last season, will be making his full debut having made two sub appearances earlier in the campaign.

Town could line up in a number of ways but could start 4-3-3 with Roberts and Gwion Edwards either side of central striker Freddie Sears.

Cole Skuse will be joined in midfield by Trevoh Chalobah and Flynn Downes. At the back skipper Luke Chambers will be alongside Matthew Pennington at the centre of the defence with Jonas Knudsen at left-back and Jordan Spence at right-back. Bartosz Bialkowski is in goal.

For Preston, Josh Earl and Sean Maguire come into the starting Xl for the injured Andrew Hughes and Lukas Nmecha, who drops to the bench.

Town: Bialkowski, Spence, Pennington, Chambers (c), Knudsen, Skuse, Chalobah, Downes, Edwards, Roberts, Spence. Subs: Gerken, Donacien, Jackson, Rowe, Dozzell, Edun, Lankester.

Preston: Maxwell, Earl, Pearson, Clarke (c), Davies, Robinson, Browne, Johnson, Huntington, Maguire, Barkhuizen. Subs: Rudd, Fisher, Moult, Gallagher, Storey, Barker, Nmecha. Referee: Andy Woolmer (Northamptonshire).

Two Spence's?

Or has Sears changed his name by deed poll to get selected more often?

Why Chalobah AND Skuse, Dozzell for me and just go out and attack (I would drop Skuse especially if he was a doubt with injury)

Nice to see Roberts get a chance. Preston are going to try bully us. Worry for Sears against their CB's.

The suprise at Skuse never seems to amaze me. He's not undroppable he's just the best midfielder at the football club. He's not an attacking midfielder! Get over it! Every manager that has managed him has played him. It's not to annoy the fans (can you believe it!) It's because they all watch the squad ecedy day in training and every match and they see that he's obviously an excellent player and play him. It's honestly not rocket science.

Tim reason for Skuse AND Challobah is simply the syste. Going forna solid3 in midfield

For those above, if you saw the game, Skuse was outstanding, that's why he is picked.
