Ward: ACL Done, See You Next Season
Thursday, 27th Dec 2018 13:26

Blues midfielder Grant Ward says his season has been ended by the knee injury he suffered at QPR yesterday.

Posting on Instagram, the 24-year-old, who picked up the knock in what looked a relatively routine challenge just after the hour mark, wrote: “ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] done, see you next season.”

Ward, who was making his second start under new manager Paul Lambert, was initially helped to walk off the pitch before being stretchered to the tunnel. Depending on the seriousness of the injury, Ward could be out for up to a year, as Andre Dozzell was with the ACL injury he suffered at the start of last season.

Ward’s loss leaves Lambert even more short of experienced midfielders with Cole Skuse expected to be out for around another five or six weeks having undergone minor knee surgery and long-term absentees Emyr Huws (knee) and Tom Adeyemi (achilles) still not ready to return.

Even prior to Ward’s injury Lambert had said he was looking to add another experienced midfielder to his squad.

Great shame. Know he is not everyones favourite but he is experienced which is what we need and with Skuse out will mean the youngsters shouldering the workload.

Just wondering if Lambert, if he gets CCV, will try Pennington in that defensive holding job that Skuse does.

Such a shame after getting a start for the first time in a while. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

No one deserves that injury, it used to end careers.

Hope he recovers soon.

Absolutely terrible news for him personally. Don't think in my honest opinion that he is good enough at this level, but nevertheless would wish such an injury upon no one and wish him a speedy and healthy recovery.

Wishing him a speedy recovering but have a sneaky feeling PL may well off load as others say , he's really not quite consistent enough at this level.

Good Luck Grant.

Shame about Grant.

But Adeyemi and Huws? I am fitter more often than them and I am 55. And a half

Speedy recovery Grant. Let's be honest if we do get relegated as most of us fear he would be a fine option next season.

Bad news for a player, I wish him a speedy recovery and having suffered from one myself in my younger days I know what a long and painful road to recovery is. Unfortunately Ward in my opinion has not done enough at the club and pushed on enough in his time here to be considered one to keep. Unfortunately the group of players in my need to move on is growing day by day. The keep group is also getting smaller by the day. The investment needed to stand any chance of staying in this division is huge and beyond Evans. Unfortunately the investment needed to stake any claim on standing any chance of being able to compete in the division below is also very large on yesterdays showing.

More bad luck, keep my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for Grant,as has been said you wouldn't wish that injury on any player.

Grants contract is up for renewal at the end of the season and whilst we have an option to extend I honestly can't see us taking this up if we are in Division One, we will be looking at opportunities to reduce our wage bill. Grant has shown at times he has talent to succeed at this level but like so many others his inconsistency will go against him, having scored a hatrick on his debut he has failed to threaten to look like a player who can get you 7 or 8 goals a season which is not an unreasonable expectation from a player who plays on the wing or in a more advanced midfield position.

Not sure we will be seeing him next season, with his contract up in the summer. Why trigger the one year extension when he's a somewhat peripheral player & we may well be looking to cut our wage bill?

Adeyemi is off with a mental illness and will not play for the Town again so we can forget about him.

Yep. See you next season. Whichever team you play for. He must be thinking. Thank f##k for that. I don't have to turn out with those bunch of knobjockeys again.

We can't afford to lose anybody at the moment, so a loss. Wish him well.

Terrible luck for the lad. Sadly the implications of this injury are well known, as is the work and lengthy period needed to recover. Wish him well - am sure he'll get the best of treatment and support from the club.

Sadly he's never really filled the potential we were hoping for following his debut performance and goals against Barnsley; but perhaps circumstances and opportunities have counted against that.

Sad to see on top of the dire season we've had so far we're picking up injuries, as regards to Grant Ward I feel he won't be as missed as much as Skuse as I've never really rated him - started well when Mick signed him but hasn't done much since.
