Lambert: Emmanuel Set to Stay at Town
Thursday, 24th Jan 2019 15:28

Blues boss Paul Lambert says he currently has no plans to send right-back Josh Emmanuel or anyone else out on loan.

Emmanuel’s stint at Shrewsbury was recently cut short with his involvement having been more limited since Sam Ricketts took charge at the League One side at the start of December.

“He’s done well, Josh,” Lambert said. “He’s a big strong lad, but not too bad on the ball. I need to see more of him. I can’t make my mind within 10 days or so.”

Might the 21-year-old be sent back out for another loan? “I think at this moment in time I’m looking to keep Josh with us.

"I think at this moment in time, unless something really creeps up, I don’t see anybody else moving.”

The academy product made 18 starts and two sub appearances for the Shrews but last appeared in a League One match on December 22nd.

Emmanuel's last first-team appearance for the Blues was as a sub on the final day of the 2016/17 season as Town were beaten 3-0 at Nottingham Forest.

The Londoner, who was with West Ham's youth set-up before joining the Blues, is out of contract in the summer but with the Blues having an option to keep him for a further season.

Good news. I hope he gets a crack, probably will as can't see Pennington staying if we go down and Spence isn't good enough at rb.

Good . Now put him AND Kenlock in team. It's about time we start to develop OUR players!

Contrary to others thoughts on here I would send him back out on loan. Pennington doing well at RB at the moment with others that can fill in if needs be. Needs games at this stage and not sure a relegation battle would do his confidence much good. Good player but more one for next season than the current predicament.

Cover for Pennington, if he is injured or required at CH. Rather have Josh in reserve that Spence

Sounds like Josh is making a good impression slowly but surely. For me, great news.
