Town are trying to sign Aston Villa right-back James Bree on loan before this evening’s 11pm deadline.

The Sun reported the Blues' interest in the 21-year-old and we understand Town are indeed after the one-time Barnsley man.

Bree has made only eight Championship appearances for Villa this season having joined them from the Tykes in January 2017. He is contracted until the summer of 2021.

Blues boss Paul Lambert has previously said a right-back was one of his January targets with Norwich’s Ivo Pinto linked earlier today, although that report appears more speculative with Bree more likely to become Town’s seventh signing during the window and sixth loanee.

With only 5 loans allowed in a match day squad I can say if you were picking certain games for him to start and certain ones for Pennington to start then you could leave the other out of the match day squad. Same with Chalobah and our plethora of midfielders or with Elder and Kenlock.
