Judge in Reduced Ireland Squad as Agent Talks With Town Owner Evans
Thursday, 14th Mar 2019 17:45

Blues midfielder Alan Judge has been confirmed in a reduced 23-man Republic of Ireland squad for the European Championships qualifiers against Gibraltar and Georgia during the international break with talks ongoing between his agent and Town owner Marcus Evans regarding his future.

Judge, 30, who has previously won five full caps and has scored one international goal, has been hugely impressive since joining Town on a short-term contract for a nominal fee from Brentford in January.

“I know they’re talking, I think Marcus and Judgey’s agent are talking away there,” manager Paul Lambert said when asked about Judge’s situation with the Blues having an option to keep him for a further year which the player has said “more in the club’s favour” previously.

“I’ve left it with them, they know my feelings on it and he’s been absolutely brilliant for us since he came in.

“I guess he’s looking for a wee goal to kickstart him on that side of it but his level of performance has been extremely high.

“[He just needs to find his shooting boots] because he’s causing teams a helluva lot of problems, that’s for sure.”

Former Blues boss Mick McCarthy’s first Ireland squad meet up on Sunday 17th March before travelling to Gibraltar for their first game on Saturday 23rd March, prior to hosting the Georgians in Dublin on Tuesday 26th March.

Also in the squad are ex-Town striker David McGoldrick and one-time midfielder Conor Hourihane.

Republic of Ireland: Darren Randolph (Middlesbrough), Keiren Westwood (Sheffield Wednesday), Mark Travers (Bournemouth), Seamus Coleman (Everton), Matt Doherty (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Richard Keogh (Derby County), John Egan (Sheffield United), Shane Duffy (Brighton & Hove Albion), Enda Stevens (Sheffield United), Alan Judge (Ipswich Town), Jeff Hendrick (Burnley), Conor Hourihane (Aston Villa), Alan Browne (Preston North End), Harry Arter (Cardiff City), Glenn Whelan (Aston Villa), Robbie Brady (Burnley), Callum O'Dowda (Bristol City), James McClean (Stoke City), Shane Long (Southampton), Sean Maguire (Preston North End), Ronan Curtis (Portsmouth), David McGoldrick (Sheffield United), James Collins (Luton Town).

Dirtiest word in football.....Agent! Sign up Judge, it's going to be a lot of fun!

Evans doing the talking, oh no. Remember the Blackpool defender we didn't get because he was quibbling over a couple of hundred grand?!

He's in the building keep him here whatever the cost!(when you look at the return our highest earners have given us!!) this guy is quality and when fully fit with our side built around him will lead by example(not cost us goals and points) to the younger players and bring us back up.

....... his objective is to play until the end of season, prove his fitness, and impress - that way he knows he will be highly marketable, so does his 'agent'. At which point our chances become less at signing him up longer term.

NOW - is the right time to get some kind of intention, and commitment from him.

Otherwise, what's the point in playing him ? - his presence is unlikely now to save us from the drop anyway.
Far better to play someone who we know will be here beyond this season.

Totally understand his mission - he needs to secure that (possibly last) playing contract, being the best he can obtain, wherever.

Benefit to us in that tho' - may well prove to be - ZILCH.

Would be a great signature to gain but in reallity would there be a queue of championship clubs squabbling over him? After all, he wasn't even getting a game at Brentford!! We've reignited his career in it's twilight years and we deserve something from him in return.

Bluearmy81, don't think Tilt was worth any more than the 650k reportedly offered. Also, trying to deal with Blackpools then owner would surely have been tricky at best?!

The deal on offer is not good enough, I'm worried about the Irish call up, but its the only deal that is going to be offered. Make it clear that "no deal" if a no go, and go for an extension to the discussions and put the offer up again.............

Hang on I've been brainwashed!
