Former Target Washington Linked
Tuesday, 7th May 2019 13:52
Town are reported to be interested in signing Sheffield United striker Conor Washington with his contract with the promoted Blades up this summer.
Northern Ireland international Washington, 26, joined the South Yorkshiremen at the start of the season from QPR but made only four starts and 12 sub appearances during 2018/19 without scoring and seems certain to be released by the Blades.
According to the EADT, Town are keen to add Washington, who joined QPR from Peterborough United for £2.5 million in January 2016, to their squad ahead of their 2019/20 League One campaign.
However, Chatham-born Washington, who is 5ft 10in tall, is likely to be of interest to a number of Championship clubs, who Town would almost certainly struggle to beat on wages given the £9 million impact of dropping into League One.
Washington, who started his career in non-league with St Ives then moved on to Newport County, was the player Town were keen to sign following Daryl Murphy’s departure for Newcastle in August 2016 but the clubs were unable to agree a fee despite protracted deadline day negotiations.
Town boss Paul Lambert is known to want to bring - probably two - experienced strikers to Portman Road ahead of 2019/20 with the Blues having scored only 36 Championship goals this season.

The midfield is sorted. Two experienced strikers would be a great start. Harrison/Jackson would be back-up for me, at least until proven otherwise. Defence also needs looking at. It's a big ask. COYB!

He'd probably do a good job in League One but I'd imagine lower Championship teams would also be interested as he's a free agent. I really hope we can get some good wingers in this window. I don't want to see Dozzell and Judge wasted out on the wings next season.

Proven striker, lost his way a bit since the QPR move. As Lambo has already stated, he wants new signings in soon so this could well happen. Would be a good signing. Has come out and said the lone striker role does not suit him.

He would be good signing L1 level if PL uses him as striker as I think he lost his way at QPR.

Very little chance of this happening

Hard worker and could be decent in L1 but i’d rather go for Norwood of the two - we need a fox in the box next season.
@gamezone totally agree, would love to see Tommy Smith back next season.

I think we need to look at are players who are coming back from being out on loan too.

I think Harrison, Jackson, Sears (later in the season) + one decent lower league fox in the box would be fine at that level.
Bearing in mind we also have Morris and Folami to come back (later)
any more than one new striker would inhibit the development of the ITFC playewrs already in the building
i'm not ME in disguise, but let's not blow the (wage) budget on an unproven albeit championship level player

I thought yesterday all the players were going to be told their futures - is there no news of this?

I’d rather spend a bit more in wages to get Norwood who’s scored nearly 30 odd goals than “a hope he can score and improve” striker with no goals we made this mistake last pre season buying sub standard strikers who struggled to get double figures in their own league then expected to adjust and score 20 goals in the championship. If you can get 30 goals and appear to improve season on season when stepping up it’s a much better risk. Come on Evans make the team competitive next season to play with the good kids like Lankaster Dozzell and Bishop

our midfield is not sorted at all. We need bigger clear out than we will probably get, due to ropey season

I'd say if he was offered a good helping of Tayto Cheese and Onion, a pastie bap, some red lemonade....he'd be all over us like a rash...…..Sadly he's likely to stay at a championship club. I would love to see his industry and determination in a Town shirt he'd get his fitness up to play for the Mighty Green and White Army.

Both Jackson and Harrison had scored over double figures before we signed them.
Washington has scored goals at league one and championship level.

I've heard from a fairly reliable source, the tranmere striker is already done and has been for a few weeks

Where from? Would be a good signing if it true.

I've read that Clayton Donaldson is a free agent. He may be old but I feel he'd do the job in league 1

Can’t see us signing him. Goal scoring record also very average.

Decent player, hopefully Didz can put in a good word

Not sure on this one. His goal ratio says one every four or five games, not good enough.Would rather have Norwood any day.

Barely scored at QPR, didn't score at the blades. Have a QPR mate who says he was rubbish. No better than what we have. Look elsewhere please...

Have we all forgot aboutMorris I think he could be another Rhodes or Marriott.
