Norwood Aiming to Make Up for Lost Time
Tuesday, 11th Jun 2019 16:06
New Blues striker James Norwood says he wants to make up for lost time having climbed back to League One after dropping out of the EFL as a teenager.
“It’s gone full circle now,” The 28-year-old told iFollow Ipswich.
“I joined Exeter in League One [from hometown club Eastbourne Town] when I was 18 but fell out a little bit. I dropped into the Conference with Forest Green and started playing midfield.
“I joined Tranmere because I was dying to play up front and scored 20 goals a season for four years and it’s got me the move here, back in League One and with a point to prove.
“It has taken me nine years to get a real crack at League football and I want to make up for lost time.
“I want to grab this opportunity with both hands. I’m not going to let this chance go.
“I want to score goals here. The club has got big dreams and I want to be part of that. I don’t want to let myself down.”
Norwood signed a three-year deal with an option for a further season yesterday, joining the Blues from Tranmere on a Bosman free transfer.

He's got the hunger, let's hope our midfield can keep him well fed.

Knowing our luck, next week he will fall over, break a leg and be out until Christmas ...

I really hope he can replicate his form at Tranmere with us. He has the hunger and desire which we might have lacked in more recent years. He wants to be here and has a point to prove. Hopefully we can add a few more players with that same attitude.

I'm encouraged by this signing but the way some are going on you'd think we signed Messi! We've signed a league one player on a free from Tranmere. We still need 3 more decent signings to be strong favourites for a top 2 finish imho. Freebies will only get us so far. Norwood is right, we should be in the prem but that isn't going to happen without splashing a minimum amount of cash over the next 2 seasons that doesn't seem to be forthcoming from Evans.

Bluearmy_81 what is the obsession with a fee being paid, world class players move on free transfers. We can't buy players above our level if they don't want to come to Ipswich and play in League One. We need to build a team, not throw money away on mercenaries.

Bluearmy _81 : compared to what we had last season , Norwood IS our Messi !!

Bluearmy 81 don't talk such rubbish . You don't have to pay a fee to get a great signing . None of us know how well Norwood will do at this stage but the fact we got him for nothing will have absolutely nothing to do with his success or failure.

I agree, he is a very good signing and gives me more hope for next season than I had. As I said though you simply cannot get to the prem without spending some money, its virtually impossible. If Lambert manages it, it will be a first. Let's see...

I think this guy will do well for us.
|pennblue added 17:29 - Jun 11|
He is a good age, time to prove himself, he will want to test himself and see if he can get into the Premier. Smashing League One next season is the next stepping stone for him.

Bluearmy 81, Norwich won the league with a nett spend of approx -£28m!

I agree with Bluearmy1981.....sell Bartoz then 2 or 3 good signing then l think we could be a powerful force in league one...Evans get out the check book and yes Norwood good signing.

In my view a great signing who will get goals with the proper service from the midfield and wide, he is a guy who works his socks off and gets in defenders faces with a good target/hold the ball up forward beside him I can see him getting more than he did last season, over to you Mr Lambert.

Without a doubt a good signing at this level of football.

Saxon that figure is a little dubious as it will have included previous parachute payments previously. They didnt get promoting by spending nothing on players.
|Saxonblue74 added 18:26 - Jun 11|
I agree we need another signing or three, I'm confident PL will make it happen. Budgies spent less than 5m and sold 33m, not sure the relevance of parachute payments 81?

Bluearmy81, your posts are painful.

Anyone read Soccernomics? The greatest correlation with success is not the fee paid, it is the wages. Basically, you have to pay higher wages to attract the best players. Hat off to ME, he has stretched the wage budget to get Norwood, who seems very hungry and wants to impress in this league and the next. Great signing, now lets look at defence. .

@ LegendofthePhoenix, I did look at Soccernomics before with a view to purchasing but decided instead to try The Numbers Game (Why Everything You Know About Football is Wrong) by Chris Anderson and David Sally, which I enjoyed. Is Soccernomics worth a read too would you say? I was thinking of reading Inverting the Pyramid: The History of Football Tactics by Jonathan Wilson as well which looks interesting.

Would have been highly coveted after scoring that many goals for Tranmere over a consistent period, others will be envious we've snagged him. Is it an indication of what PL thinks of Jackson, Harrison, Morris, Drinan, and Folami too though? Lankester seems to have the seal of approval already, and Sears seemed to be liked by PL but going to be a long road back to fitness now.

James Norwood scored 92 goals for Tranmere in 189 games in the past 4 seasons. That's approximately one goal every two games if my maths is correct
Kayden Jackson scored 18 goals for Accrington / Grimsby in 74 games over 2 seasons before we signed him (less than one in four)
Ellis Harrison scored 31 goals for Bristol Rovers in 103 games over 3 seasons before we signed him (one in almost 3.5 games)
THAT's why I am so excited about this signing. Last summer there was a lot of excitement about Jackson and Ellis, but their respective records were always poor. OK some of Norwood's goals were at National league level but he made the step up very well last year and his record actually improved in League Two. Let's hope he can do it again next season ..... for us

Love the ambition, but we've got to navigate league one first... if we don't respect that, we'll be stuck there for a bit. COYB
