Millwall Boss Tight-Lipped on Bialkowski Link
Friday, 14th Jun 2019 10:09

Millwall boss Neil Harris has refused to comment on links with Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski and a number of other players.

Bialkowski, 31, is understood to be interesting the Lions, who are very much in the market for keepers with David Martin having joined West Ham, Ben Amos's loan from Bolton having ended and Jordan Archer having decided to move on this summer with his contract up.

In addition to their interest in Bialkowski, Millwall are believed to have had a bid turned down by Portsmouth for Jamal Lowe and are said to be eyeing QPR’s Matt Smith.

“We’ve been linked with players. Some are right and some come completely from nowhere, players from countries where we’ve never heard of the player,” Harris told London News Online.

“We have never recruited from abroad, so it’s not likely we will sign one from Outer Mongolia on a 12-year contract.

“Some will be true — that we have enquired about or made a bid for. Sometimes reports come out but we like to do our business in private and not alert other clubs to what we’re doing and what we’re spending.

“When it does come out it comes out from one place — and that’s an agent. I won’t be talking about individual players at other clubs.”

As well as Millwall, Birmingham City are among a number of clubs eyeing a move for Bialkowski, renewing their interest from last summer.

Town are understood to be willing to consider bids for the Polish international, who is the highest-paid player at Portman Road following the bumper new deal he signed last year after returning from duty with Poland at the World Cup finals in Russia.

That new contract followed the Blues' refusal of a £3 million offer from Birmingham for the former Notts County and Southampton man, who, following a tough season for both club and player, is likely to fetch significantly less this summer, £1.5 million having previously been reported to be Town's valuation.

League One football will do nothing to improve Bialkowski’s international prospects and despite having said he is happy at Town - and that he plans to live in Suffolk once he retires - a move back to the Championship is likely to appeal should a club - whether those already linked or another side - firm up their interest.

People that are surprised that “ only Millwall” are really interested in Bart demonstrates Ipswich fans over hyped view of our GK. it doesn't surprise me one little bit that “only” Millwall and Brum come in for him. He's an excellent shot stopper without a shadow of doubt. The best. But the rest of his game ( basic goalkeeping ), is bang average. For those that say , “ he was POTY three years running”, is no guarantee either. Fans are emotional animals and tend to go for their favourite. The first year Bart was outstanding. Perhaps the honeymoon period of his time here? The next two years when he was given the award, frankly there were better players that should have had the award ahead of Bart. Lawrence and then Waghorn. And for those that challenge that, who voted for Chambo this year?

I wish Bart well at his next Club. He will leave , and Millwall offer that opportunity to play at Championship level , and pay his very hefty wages. . Good luck Bart , and thanks for all your efforts. We all move on.

As a player it's always good to be a part of a team ,& feeling you're contributing to them and they are also a part of what you do ( especially as a keeper ): I'm not convinced BB has had much of a real defensive team in front of him ,so a move to greener pastures is bound to be attractive in that respect .
It's very plain that in other respects he and his family really enjoy everything Ipswich otherwise has to offer .
So if he goes we should simply wish him well , good fortune elsewhere and gratitude for his time here.

players in top form command the most interest and money. bart didn't have the greatest of season so his stock has fallen. football is a very unforgiving business. i'm a big fan of bart. he'd been immense for us until last season. he may well of just had an off season and be back to his best next season. but whenever a player loses form you do worry will they ever get back to their best. remember tommy miller for ipswich, he had some great form and bagged us plenty of goals from midfield. but later on in his career for us he wasn't nearly as good. it happens, players have purple patches and sometimes go quiet and never get back to their past heights again. there are so many players like this. hopefully bart can get back to his best but a player will always be judged primarily on their most recent season of form.
