Knudsen: Thank You and All the Best for the Future
Wednesday, 19th Jun 2019 20:34

Departing defender Jonas Knudsen has issued a farewell statement with his Blues career ending this summer.

The Danish international’s contract is up at the end of the month with Town not offering new terms, the 26-year-old having made it clear he wanted to move on in January if another club had come in.

Town received no interest but subsequently manager Paul Lambert rarely called on the left-back in the final months of the season. His last appearance was at West Brom early in March.

“As my time at Ipswich Town has now come to an end I would like to thank everyone in and around the club for the last four years. My family and I have enjoyed our time here in town!” Knudsen wrote on Instagram

“Unfortunately it did not end as I had hoped last season but I’m confident that the club will rise again.

“The fans are amazing and have supported us through all times both away and at Portman Road which I am amazed and really grateful about! I wish all the best for the club in the future!”

Knudsen, who cost Town £300,000 when he was signed from Esbjerg fB in July 2015, made 153 starts and two sub appearances for the Blues, scoring four times, two against Norwich.

He also appeared at last summer’s World Cup with Denmark, making his only appearance in their round of 16 defeat to eventual finalists Croatia.

Knudsen was linked with Stoke, Middlesbrough and West Brom during last season, as well as FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland in Denmark, while interest from German sides Fortuna Düsseldorf and Freiburg has also been reported.

Meanwhile, former Blues defender Matt Clarke has been at Brighton today to undergo a medical as his move to the Seagulls from Portsmouth gets ever closer.

As reported yesterday, with the clubs reported to have agreed a £3.9 million fee, Town are set to receive a sell-on windfall of £770,000.

He never came back to us after the World Cup. We lost him and Bart in that tournament. We said our goodbyes last year.

Well done Jonas and you will be always a legend here for the 2 Norwich goals alone.

Just keep practising the long throws and you'll only have to do 300 before one works!!!!

I wish Jonas well, think some words were taken out of context and he got a lot of stick for it.

He scores against scum.

That said he's not a player I think we will miss, certainly replaceable, would like to have seen a reall effort to make him a CB. Had all the blood and guts for that. Not cultured enough for LB

CavendishBlue don't think you can call Jonas a legend that's disrespectful to the proper legends of this club he wasn't that great was he.good luck to him though.

A decent guy and did ok for Town. Shame it all panned out as it did, would have been good for us in lge1. All the best to him.

Unfortunately for him he followed in the footsteps of 2 genuinely decent left backs so he was always judged on that. Pretty average player, can't fault his work ethic or his love for the old gaffer, but he won't live long in the memory. However, well done for scoring against the scum twice Jonas.

Not great at defending which is what he was there for. He always had a mistake in him and at times his decision making and movement off the ball was baffling.
His heart was always in the right place until he dreamt of greener pastures.
All the very best though in the future Jonas.

Good luck to you and the family in your next home Jonas, a decent lad who IMO always gave it his best, he always wore the shirt with pride and I agree I think he would have made an excellent CB.
Onwards and upwards hopefully for him and Town.

Along with Chambo, just a shambolic defender.
Considering he's still young and has a World Cup appearance on his CV.
There doesn't appear to be to many takers...he and his agent have tried everything to get a move away for the last couple of years. Last summer enquires were met with a 1m valuation... 250k would have more than secured his services back in January.
But no one rates him, obviously.

I certainly wish him all the best for his soccer future. His heart and passion for all things ITFC under MM was evident. Maybe not quite so much when he left.

a lot of a our squad enjoyed playing for Mick. Some knew the writing was on the wall. It all ended too sadly and continued too long. Hopefully it's a kick up the jacksy we needed years ago

Not a particularly good full back and definitely not any good as a wing back, better as part of a back three. Not very good with the ball at his feet. Particularly poor with his long throws. How he ever made it onto the world stage I will never know? And how that changed his own opinion of himself was quite sad to see. No great loss to us going forward.

Never seen such a good attitude, passion and commitment in a warm up before, unfortunately once the whistle blew it kind of disappeared. Such lovely comments above, I suspect it's to obtain a few ‘uppers' and not saying it as it is..... Undone his previous good work with his attitude last season, spoilt brat springs to mind, hence why he weren't selected.

Best of luck to him. I wasn't his biggest fan but he certainly gave his all for us and scored twice against the budgies.

Tried hard but never looked comfortable. Nobody has come in for him so that says it all really.
