Huws Continues Comeback With First 90 Minutes at Notts County
Wednesday, 24th Jul 2019 00:11

Blues boss Paul Lambert was pleased to see Emyr Huws play the full 90 minutes at Notts County, the midfielder’s first full game for the senior side since the final day of the 2016/17 campaign.

That match, coincidentally also in Nottingham where the Blues were beaten 3-0 by Forest, came at the end of the Wales international’s loan spell from Cardiff.

His move to Portman Road was made permanent that summer but after missing much of pre-season his involvement in the first team was limited to three starts and two sub appearances before he suffered a knee injury at Middlesbrough in December 2017 which required surgery.

Last season the former Manchester City trainee made a couple of abortive comebacks, playing one full 90 minutes for the U23s and appearing once in the first team matchday 18 without making it on to the field for the senior side all campaign.

But this pre-season Huws has played a half at Paderborn, then the 45-minute match against Fortuna Dusseldorf at the Interwetten Cup before a further half-hour at Colchester prior to stepping it up at Notts County.

"That's probably his first 90 minutes in over two years,” Lambert reflected. “It's incredible.”

The Blues boss also had praise for a number of other players: “Idris [El Mizouni] is getting better and better, [Kayden] Jackson and [James] Norwood are playing really well, Danny Rowe I thought was excellent. There's a lot of good things.

“I still think we need two or three to come in to help that group and let's see what happens.”

Some positives aside from the grim injury to Nydam. Obviously the result wasn't great but at least we managed to pull a goal back. But more importantly another step forwards for Huws. Jackson seems to be rediscovering his eye for goal again. And Danny Rowe might come good as I always thought he would if given a chance.

Good with regards to Huws and the others. But, note that PL says he still wants to bring in another 2, or 3 to "help". If he's allowed to, that's quite a few players with no pre-season and will, errr...need to hit the ground running (preferably without getting injured straight away🤞). Also, if Judge goes is that 3, or 4 we need. And Andre...4 or 5 !!

Dozzell wont be going unless silly money and I think his dad will tell him to get a season of 1st Team football ln stead of sitting in the reserves at a Prem club.
Is Rowe better than Judge if so cash in on him and use the money to get a few players in.

What did Judge actually do last season, that Rowe and Huws aren’t doing now?

Great to have Huws back - I just hope he’s past his injury problems 🙏🏻

Think i’m one of the few who had more faith in what I saw of Jackson (over Harrison) last season - the guy has bags of pace & ran himself into the ground everytime I saw him play - think he deserves a starting place alongside Norwood next season.

ArnieM Huws and Rowe are doing it in pre season kick abouts Judge done it in the championship just because he wants to leave he's become a bad player sounds like sour grapes to me you can't blame him for wanting to leave better football twice as much money and near home plus he's got his family to think of so come on children grow up and wish him all the best anyway he was rubbish anyway wasn't he.

IF Huws can stay fit more or less the whole season, that would be a huge bonus. Skuse, while not a world beater is decent enough, Nolan coming back, Downes is a good player, Dozzell, Judge is still in the building. Midfield should be allright, though I wouldn´t mind a decent addition. More worried about defence.

Skuse did have the most interceptions in the whole of europe a couple of seasons ago. Surely that counts for something?

I'm hoping that Huws is going to have a great season and that his influence will benefit the youngsters. While i accept that Skuse has been important in the past I feel he's more likley to play a role on the touchline or as from the bench.
Loving to hear that Rowe is getting good reports as I feel he can play at this level and score important goals.
For me El Miz and Downes will be the stars for the future while others will have to prove themselves at this level and with their fitness.
