Six Changes as Blues Face Bottom Club Burton
Saturday, 16th Jan 2021 14:30

Town boss Paul Lambert has made six changes for this afternoon’s game away against bottom club Burton Albion with Tomas Holy, Toto Nsiala, Flynn Downes, Teddy Bishop, Gwion Edwards and James Norwood starting XI.

Holy replaces Dai Cornell in goal with the Welshman on the bench. At the back, Nsiala comes in for Luke Woolfenden, who is also among the subs.

In midfield, Downes, a half-time sub in last week’s 3-2 home loss to Swindon, returns in the three alongside Andre Dozzell and back-from-injury Bishop with Emyr Huws left out of the 18, while Alan Judge moves to one of the wide roles up front.

Edwards, still joint-top scorer with five goals despite having been out since November, is in the other wide position, probably on the left, with Norwood, who scored his first league goal of the season having come off the bench last week, the central striker. Aaron Drinan drops to the bench while Kayden Jackson misses out on a place in the squad as does Armando Dobra.

The Brewers, playing their first home game since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s return as manager, make two changes with midfielder Ciaran Gilligan and striker Charles Vernam coming into the side for midfielder Colin Daniel and defender Kieran Wallace, who both miss out on a place in the squad.

Burton: Garratt, Brayford (c), Edwards, Powell, Hemmings, Akins, Carter, Vernam, O'Toole, Gallacher, Gilligan. Subs: O'Hara, Bostwick, Parker, Varney, Vassilev, Hart, Clare.

Ipswich: Holy, Chambers (c), Nsiala, McGuinness, Ward, Dozzell, Downes, Bishop, Judge, Edwards, Norwood. Subs: Cornell, Woolfenden, Kenlock, Lankester, Sears, Drinan, Hawkins.

Anyone who bet on Woolfy keeping his place after his outburst of honesty was mad! What a shock.
Lots of players back, PL obv feels it’s now or never and his job depends on a result and is willing to gamble on their fitness…..which he has never done before. Hopefully they are actually ready and some/all will make it through the game!

FINALLY we get to see that midfield 3 that was so brilliant against West Ham. Obviously Downes and Bishop won’t be at their best, but it is still great to have all three in the team at the same time for the first time.

Judge still in there, think he has been very average so far this season although better last week. Mr Woolfenden rewarded for his honesty lol

Nice change to be playing with a GK. Back four, very dodgy, except Ward. Downes red card waiting to happen. Judge dread.

Is Jackson being sold ??

Monkey_Blue added 14:42 - Jan 16
Maybe there is interest in Jackson? Given the choice of perhaps sell but we’ll get nothing like what we could have in the summer

If that 18 cannot beat the club at the bottom of the 3rd division then Lambert needs to go tonight.

All Burton need to do is play the ball to Nsiala direction and rough our slight midfield. This game is gone Burton 1 : 0 ITFC

What a childish response leaving Woolfy out for telling it as it is, you utter knob Lambert, treating people like that only gets you nearer the exit door. But wait, is Chambers dropped after his woeful performance last Saturday? Oh no, of course not! So we now have captain calamity with Nsiala at the back, that means a definate goal against and probably a penalty as well. For the first time in years l,m not even going to bother putting radio on. Lambert out!!!!

So happy to see Wolfenden dropped after the loss to Swindon - coming off the pitch laughing and smiling.

So Woolfenden says what most fans are thinking and boom out the team! And although Huws was terrible last week and has been most of his time with us the fact he is in the first team then out the 16 just shows how erratic Lambert is.

LWNR2013 added 15:05 - Jan 16
Would Lambert have picked Huws last week as he was still ‘on the club’ ? Not defending Lambert, just saying.

meekreech added 15:06 - Jan 16
With our super centre back nsiala in it will be a miracle if he is still on the pitch at the end. But he will not be able to get to the end without giving away a penalty as it is his speciaity !

STILL only one striker. PL is even more stubborn that MM was.

No wonder there are reports of player unrest with Lambert desperately trying to exert control, the best managers respect their players and get loyalty and performances in return. BBC website shows 27 mins gone and 0 shots.....

Most of the top teams all winning, a win today is a MUST or its probably curtains for yet another season
