Cardiff Confirm McCarthy Appointment
Friday, 22nd Jan 2021 22:50

Former Blues boss Mick McCarthy has been confirmed as the new manager of Cardiff City.

McCarthy, who is joined at Cardiff by his Town assistant Terry Connor, has been given the job for the remainder of the season.

"I'm delighted to be here," McCarthy told Cardiff City TV. "I'm thrilled by the opportunity.

"I want to get the club back to winning games and I want to get smiles back on the players' faces. If we do that, then we'll get smiles back on the fans.

"We've got a good squad of players and I'm looking forward to getting down to work.”

Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan added: “I’d like to personally welcome Mick and Terry to our football club and wish them the very best of luck.

“I’ve enjoyed the brief talk I’ve had with Mick and I’m confident that he’s the right man to take on the responsibility of improving our performances and fortunes.”

McCarthy succeeds Neil Harris, who was sacked on Thursday with Cardiff 15th in the Championship following six defeats on the trot.

The 61-year-old, who was sacked by Cypriot side APOEL after only two months early in January, left his previous job as head coach of the Republic of Ireland - his second stint in the role - in April last year having departed Portman Road after five and a half years in April 2018.

Exactly , and I'd say the same to the EADT who have decided to post a large article about McCarthy taking over at Cardiff . Who gives a flying one . He's history , old news , and certainly nothing to do with ITFC anymore. Move the f luck on !

I hope he gets Cardiff up, just to see the reactions of some people on here.

Gotta feel sorry for Cardiff fans as they've had to suffer whingeing Warnock and now they've got moaning Mick. They don't stand a chance of promotion but he'll keep them in the Championship I'm sure.

It was time for him to move on from ITFC but expect Cardiff will start to climb the Table under him.

Well the Cardiff fans aren't impressed reading some of their comments.
MCCarthy “ builds” nothing. He papers over the cracks , makes a team hard to beat but nothing else. As for “ entertainment “, lol !

People are not obliged to read every article on TWTD or EADT. If it is of no interest, don't read it.

The article says that he “wants to put the smiles back on people's faces”.

It seems to me,reading between the lines from these comments, they still think McCarthy is a good manager. If he is that good why has he still got a caravan hitched to the back of his car?

Happy Dazs
Set them up for a draw ...helps the accumulators
Cardiff fans must be worried though that the owner appears to have only had a quick chat !
Perhaps MM only needed the ...we,ll give you a million if you keep us up ...and he said I'm your man

Same old people who slag him off but if he was still in charge we would still be in the Championship.

He had to go in the end because of the stick he got from the fans and they were the ones who wanted Hurst

So slag yourself off as you are partly to blame.

Don't you just miss McCarthy and his 7 - 0 - 3 formation?

At least Cardiff won't have to spend money buying midfielders.

About 3 years ago i took my disabled friend down to the training ground to watch the team training. Afterwards Mick took time out to come and chat to us which delighted my friend. I joked with Mick that the club needed to spend some money to improve the surface of the road access to the training ground. Your bloody joking mate he said i need that money to spend on players he said laughing. Mick was a true gent along with Tommy Smith (senior) and Brad Pitman who also had a chat with us. Best of luck Mick.
