Kenlock: I Want to Play as Much as I Can
Thursday, 25th Feb 2021 13:45

Left-back Myles Kenlock says he’s enjoying his football having broken into the team and held on to his place in recent weeks.

Kenlock has been in and out of the side since making his senior debut back at the start of the 2015/16 campaign.

In the 24-year-old’s last four games the Blues haven’t conceded, while Kenlock’s pass set up James Norwood’s winning goal at Hull City on Tuesday, while he also assisted Alan Judge’s strike against Blackpool earlier in the month.

"I'm really happy to be getting some game time right now and I'm determined to keep working hard for the team," Kenlock told Saturday’s matchday programme.

"I need to keep working hard so I can continue improving and help the side get where we want to be.

"It's nice to be helping out going forward as well. My main responsibility is to be defensively solid, but it's good to get up the pitch when you can.

"I got an assist against Blackpool earlier this month and managed to get one on Tuesday.

"Nors has been complaining that I can get him in on goal more often so I went for the long ball and it paid off. The weight was just about right and Nors took the chance well.

"I just want to play as much as I can and help the team. I'm enjoying my football and I'd like to maintain my place in the team for the remainder of the season, but I know the other lads will be working hard.”

Overall, academy product Kenlock has made 83 starts and seven sub appearances for the Blues without scoring.

Myles is our most improved player this season imho. If he can maintain his fitness and performances, there's no reason why he couldn't make the LB position his own

Would be excellent news if M.k can maintain this form ,and profit from ab extended run of appearances . Let's hope he gets the opportunity and develops further as a left sided contributor .

Myles has been doing really well lately. I'll admit I was one who had written him off. Ok, I had written him off in the Championship and this is only League 1, so maybe he's found his level, but he has looked much better than Ward in recent games, for me. Ward started well, but it looks like his age is catching up to him in a busy schedule, likewise with Chambers.

Really chuffed to see Kenlock being given a run of games and producing the goods. He's been slated so many times (I think it was mostly undeserving criticism as he was never given a fair run of games to prove his worth and it's hard to establish yourself when you keep getting dropped after almost every appearance) but he's more than proving his worth of late. His confidence must have been low at times wondering what he needed to do to get a fair crack of the whip and it seems his patience is finally being rewarded. Nice one Myles, keep it up :-)

Didn't comment on the match report the other night as I've been feeling under the weather but still a bit shocked we finally beat a team higher up the league! Most unexpected but also most welcome! Hull weren't very good at all by the sounds of it. Or did we just make them look bad? Or did we catch them on an off night? Really not sure what to make of it!

He is certainly showing he wants to keep the shirt he has been very patient waiting for an opportunity which in the past i feel he let himself down but he seems to have the bit between his teeth now and his confidence can only grow, credit to you Myles keep it up.

A player who probably benefits from the fact there are no fans!

He never really excelled like he has done recently - but fans were quick to moan and groan at him when things weren't going well. Which no doubt harmed his confidence and as a result his performances.

He's doing well and I hope it continues. Proving me and many others wrong!

Myles has never let us down and been treated very poorly by McCarthy and by Lambert
Played well under McCarthy, but dropped as soon as the under-performing ‘World Cup Show Pony' was fit.
The same happened with Ward, Kenlock played well until Ward was fit and Ward came straight back into the side despite Lambert spouting about having the shirt and all that cr#p…oh, unless a senior pro wants it (look at Matheson and Chambers !!!)

The real issue I have is that these younger players (althought at 24 I am nit sure he comes into this category, perhaps less experienced) always seem to have to prove themselves in every game and this leads to pressure and could lead to mistakes.
He needs a run of games where that pressure of one mistake will cost you your place is not apparent. A run which is often afforded to other senior players !!!

Just keep doing the simple things right and you will have no issues !!!

Pleased for Myles, at his age his inconsistency, coupled with Lambert's infuriating squad rotation has meant his game time has been limited. If he puts in good performances game after game he should be kept in the team. That goes for all the players, play well, you keep in the team. Have a bad game you fear getting dropped and loosing a regular place. Myles still needs to work on not getting caught out of position and stopping crosses going in at all costs. Having said that so does whoever plays at right back.

I think every town fan is rooting for Myles, hes taken a bit of stick at times but to be fair to him we just want him to do well and unfortunately the frustrations when a mistake is highlighted etc can knock your confidence..keep it going

Have never been his biggest fan but he has done well recently. He needs to play with more confidence. He is a strong lad and is capable of making those surging Forward runs a bit like Titus Bramble used to in his early days. Good luck to him.
