Downes Linked With Posh Wednesday, 30th Jun 2021 08:19 Peterborough United are reported to be showing interest in Blues midfielder Flynn Downes.
According to the EADT, Championship new boys Posh have the 22-year-old well up their list of summer targets, having already made ex-Town keeper Dai Cornell their first signing of the close season.
It’s expected that they will face competition for the Brentford-born Town academy product with Barnsley previously having shown interest, although with manager Valerian Ismael later departing for West Brom.
Downes was the subject of a number of bids from Crystal Palace last summer, the highest £1.6 million, and the former England U19 international subsequently handed in a transfer request.
It’s understood Downes remains keen to move on to a club in a higher division and was among the many players told he could find a new club by manager Paul Cook at the end of 2020/21.
As revealed a week ago, Downes was listed among those starting pre-season training with the U23s rather than with the first team.
Meanwhile, former Blues striker Jack Marriott, 26, is expected to return to Posh in the next few days with his Derby County contract up.

Eddie1985, I personally despise player power within football. Anyone with the attitude he has displayed should be shown the door. It's his job to perform to the best of his ability for the likes of you and I who pay for his very comfortable lifestyle.

I wouldn't bother arguing with Monkey as he will swear blind that 10billion is more than 14billion FACT.

Time for Downes to go. Be lucky to get £500K for him after last season. He's an okay player.

Saxon blue 74 what in earth are you going on about the lad was offered a chance to better himself and get away from lambert??!! We denied him and then cook has come in and made it clear he is not wanted. Its bizarre but its god nothing to do with player power, your bye bye flynn blah blah nonsense appears as it it was written by an infant

Eddie, he wasnt denied. Palace didn't meet our valuation. If we'd let him go for peanuts I'm sure you and others would have complained. We all have our opinions, mine seems to be in line with our current and previous manager but it is just that, an opinion. His attitude toward the club that has developed him as a player has been poor. Maybe if his attitude had been different he could have put himself in the shop window for bigger clubs. Hope that's grown up enough for you.

Dissboyitfc….what are you talking about? The club is owned by a pension fund. About 10% by the three lions and Evans who btw is still the biggest individual owner of the club. Barnsley are owned by people who can spend their own money without checking with a pension fund. The fact is Flynn has was more chance of getting to the premiership with Barnsley currently than with us. Who has 11bn who owns us? A pension fund who's only aim is profit. You are an idiot

ringwood…. Why would I swear anything more than I know? Because I said I didn't recall the Pompey winger playing against us? That's not swearing he didn't that's just saying I didn't recall him. Facts are not in your favour regarding the financial pull of Barnsley vs us. I wish that were not the case but I live in the real world and don't make strawman or false arguments out of spite because you can't argue the facts. Nob

I would put money on us swapping places with Petebog next summer

I'd get out if I was Downes. Better than ending up in League Two, with American owners, another team of no hopers from the bottom of the barrel, and blabber mouth as manager.

Saxon blue... Not really no! We overvalued him.. I remember people on here wanting 8 million... Now apparently he is rubbish we would be lucky to get 500 k??! Which is it?? You clearly must have an intricate knowledge of our playing staff and there thoughts and feelings otherwise you would be stupid to presume such a level of insight.in addition he is only being linked to clubs in the division above us.... That will be for a reason, same reason as sears going down a division, players find there level, there is no evidence to suggest hrs a bad egg, he's a good player and looking back I'm sure most fans would have accepted palaces bid rather than stand in the lads way of moving to the best league in the world, regarding manager opinion lambert played him when fit all the time and Cook never gave him a chance so I'm not really sure exactly what point your trying to make.... Chances are not a valid one

Eddie, my OPINION ( as I, you and every other poster on here are entitled to) is that Downes and many others have had a very poor and unprofessional attitude, one that as a lifelong fan I am not prepared to accept. There are many posters on here that clearly agree, also many who feel his talent overrides his attitude. I have never put a valuation on him. Sears has dropped a league as he's now in the twilight of his career, not 22 years old and with potential in some people's eyes. How do you know Cook didn't give him a chance without "intricate knowledge" of our coaching staff? I would imagine if Palace were to come back waving their £1.6m it would be accepted this time. Just opinions, I'd appreciate you not questioning my level of intelligence when you undoubtedly disagree.

Downes has ability, but his injury, attitude and petulance appear to be holding him back which has stopped him progressing at the rate many had hoped. Like all of last seasons squad, if they go so be it.

Cook finding it easy to get rid of quality, not so easy or cheap to sign it.

Quite right BettyBlue (and others) we can't replace one of his quality (Palace were after him not so long ago). His injury set him back last season.

Allegedly one of if not our hottest prospect so surely would have to be worth over a Million. I very much doubt Posh have that sort of money. I would like to see him stay and fight for a place and he may improve around better players (and he needs to). But as long as we get a good fee then let him go if he is unhappy.
