Cook on Dobra Loan Plans
Friday, 27th Aug 2021 10:07

Town boss Paul Cook says Armando Dobra could be one of a couple of players going out on loan before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

TWTD understands Colchester United is now Dobra’s most likely destination, although the Blues would prefer him to move to League One if possible.

Quizzed on whether he will be willing to allow the Albania U21 international to depart for a spell with tomorrow’s League One opponents AFC Wimbledon and League Two sides Salford and Leyton Orient all keen in addition to the U’s, Cook said: “We’re going to step through all those things one step at a time.

“The most important thing is that we protect ourselves and look after ourselves and we also have an eye on every player’s future development.

“There’s no better way in football to develop than playing football and it’s something that we want to do.

“Sometimes with young lads today, I feel people are in a hurry sometimes to get out on loan and to do stuff.

“These lads have been training with the first team all summer, we’ve learnt so much about them, numerous players, not just Corrie [Ndaba, who moved to Salford on loan last week].

“Going forward, as the injuries, hopefully clear up for us, the reality is we might let one or two go out on loan, that would obviously be over the next few days.”

Along with Dobra, young left-back Bailey Clements is likely to be among those under consideration to be sent out for a spell as will midfielder Idris El Mizouni.

Cook says that if Dobra is sent out it’s with a view to his development rather than marking the end of his time with the Blues.

“One hundred per cent, Dobs is an absolutely cracking kid, he’s a pleasure to work with every day,” the Blues boss enthused.

“He’s got a real desire to get better, he trains so hard, he wants to learn, he wants to just grow as a young player.

“If he’s not going to be coming on as sub or he’s not going to be playing, obviously with Sone Aluko being back fit etc, then the reality is for his development, he will play football, and that will see him come back to Ipswich Town in the hope that his development sees him progress towards our first team even more.”

I know some won't like it, but all that PC says there is spot on. How is Dobra going to develop and improve his game sitting on our bench or getting 15-20 minute cameos? He needs to be playing games and playing regularly. For all Dobra's ability he's certainly not the finished article 'YET', he needs the game time to polish off the rough edges.

Makes sense with bring Aluko in on a one year deal. He will have the experience to slow the game down if we are in a lead and hold onto the ball.

Not entirely sure that if both were fit I would pick Aluko over Dobra. A striker who scores once every 10 games vs a talented lad who probably can turn a game? However it's clear Aluko or not Dobra won't be starting over the new signings so a spell at Wimbledon as long as he plays would be better than the odd appearance off the bench.

Monkeyblue. Like you, I wouldnt choose Aluko over Dobra but then they play different positions anyway. Aluko right wing or striker, Dobs very much left wing. Do think mind you that its the right thing for Dobra, that he goes out on loan. Preferably for me, just until January for now, just in case we want him back. Hes not the finished article by any means. Thi hes exciting to watch with his intent to run at players and some undoubted skill, he often fails to create anything bcse he needs to learn to pass the ball to players in a better position than he is. Instead continuing to run and losing the ball. Sure he'll learn to do that more as time goes on, and hopefully playing more regularly would help with that. And he can then come back here an even better player. So a loan, for me, is a win win situation for all parties.

I disagree. I'd like to see Dobs stay, fight for his place and get some proper coaching in order to help him find that killer pass or score himself. With our injury problems looking like they will continue this season, we will need backup and Dobra is very capable of stepping up.

Dobra is one of our best players....I hope Cook has got this right. We are taking everything on trust at the moment, let's hope we see more than just trust starting with tomorrow's game.
