Quintet in Team of the Week
Sunday, 9th Jan 2022 12:58

Manager Kieran McKenna, skipper Samy Morsy, Matt Penney, Wes Burns and Macauley Bonne have all been named in the Sky Bet League One Team of the Week following yesterday’s brilliant 4-0 victory at Gillingham.

McKenna is the first Town boss to see his side to victories in each of his first two matches in charge since Roy Keane in 2009.

Morsy was a key man in midfield during Saturday’s win and hit the bar late on, Bonne ended his 10-game goalless streak, Penney assisted his goal and Burns netted Town’s second of the afternoon.

Surprised Aluko not in there just a bit of fun really not to be taken seriously. Penney has had a new lease of life since the new manager arrived . It's a shame he didn't come out of our academy then people on here would be raving about him.

Manager of the Week in only his second game as a manager. Congratulations, Kieran McKenna!

Also congratulations to Bonne, Morsy, Burns and Penney. To be honest, the entire starting XI could have been in the team of the week, except Walton as he had nothing to do!

@Linkboy13 - don't forget the golden rule - someone from the academy is given plenty of chances to impress, is 'one of our own' and is blossoming talent; someone from another club of the same age is treated like a seasoned professional, needs to be the finished job or is constantly criticised.

Saxonblue - how do you know that? did you see the other games? doesn't say that much for other clubs left sided wingbacks - but he did ok so not knocking him.

That is fantastic even in a depleted week, but Linkboy13 said it, how the #### is Aluko not in there then ? Hopefully teams do not spot him either as if I was an opposition manager, I would have him man-marked.....though I suspect OUR new manager might have a plan ready for that too, as am starting to think he might be quite good.

TimmyH your just one of them small minded fans who cannot give credit when it's due and i doubt whether youve ever pulled on a pair of football boots and probably wouldn't know how.

Some fans on here will be calling for McKenna's head if he Picks Penny again . I know he's not the stand out player in the team but he's the best player we've got in that position at the moment. Clements made a promising start and then struggled defensively in his next two getting caught out of position but is still a player who could come back especially with better coaching at the club now. Coulson looks like a player because of his slight build and the way he plays will always have injury problems . He's not a defender for me he's just too small but could do a good job in a left sided midfield role because he's quick and skilful.
