Morsy Charged By FA
Monday, 24th Jan 2022 17:45

Town skipper Samy Morsy has been charged with violent conduct by the FA following Saturday’s home game with Accrington Stanley.

The charge relates to a clash with Stanley midfielder Ethan Hamilton just before the half hour, which was highlighted in no uncertain terms by visitors’ chairman Andy Holt on Twitter following the match.

An FA statement reads: “Ipswich Town FC’s Sam Morsy has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E1.1 following their EFL League One match against Accrington Stanley FC on Saturday [22/01/22].

“The midfielder’s behaviour during the 27th minute was not seen by the match officials, but it was caught on camera, and allegedly constitutes violent conduct. Sam Morsy has until tomorrow [25/01/22] to provide a response.”

Town say they will be making no comment but it's understood Morsy will be contesting the charge.

Hmmm... didn't see the incident so I don't know about this. There will always be wind up tactics in the game, from what I read it seems Morsy may have fallen for it. There also needs to be some sort of action against the Accrington Chairman, some of his comments were outrageous.

I think it could be a 4 game ban, as it is his second violent conduct of the season.

Fair enough, silly thing to do and will be punished. As for the AC Stanley chairman referring to him as an s-house.......needs to grow up himself. Far worse things happen on the football pitch that go unnoticed. Especially as you go down the leagues and out of range of cameras

Absolutely ridiculous, the games been ruined these days. They were going down at every available opportunity

This comes as no surprise. Even taking into account the Accrington tactics, this was a cowardly cheap shot. Questionable behaviour from a captain, who had it been seen at the time would have cost us the game, and severed the very slim thread of play off optimism. No defence at all.

No surprise. Simply won't get away with that in this day and age. Needs to learn a lesson, both he and Norwood walk the disciplinary tightrope regularly. We've a huge task ahead to make the play offs, it isn't going to be made any easier with the needless absence of hot headed players.

Just lucky it wasn't spotted on matchday, could have cost 3 points.

So that's why Holt left Twitter.

Bit strong to call it cowardly bearing in mind the behaviour of the Stanley players....accepted that does not justify clacking him one and it will impact Town. However, Morsy was instrumental in Town standing strong and he was strong in the challenge throughout which, in the second half allowed town to assert their play. The Stanley players were no angels themselves....they play to their strengths and attributes which saw them dominate Town in the first 20 mins or so....as it became attritional football Stanley did resort increasingly to the darker arts of the game....whether it is accepted or not, big characters, strong players are needed to get out of this division...

Freddie ears. It's his 2nd red but not a 2nd violent conduct. His 1st red was a "supposedly" bad tackle. But guess it could still be 4 games, knowing the fa.

It's far from clear he struck out at him. The Accrington players arm goes to Morsy first and he was trying to block Morsy off the ball. Who does the Accrington chairmen know at the EFL?

If that is the only angle, he could have just pushed his shoulder, same as Hamilton had literally just done to him. Footage does not show contact to the face.

Football should be a mans game and comments made by a large selection of Ipswich fans are beyond me. How many times have we been on the receiving end and not said a word, personally I am glad we have a player of Morseys ability who will not let the opposition upset him. Would you all rather watch a team like Accrington throw themselves about, wind up the opposition and play most of the game with the ball in the air…at least Ipswich were trying to play football.

Absolutely ridiculous. This only happened because Holt is a gobsh!te. The AC player tried to block Morsy's path to the ball! All he did was push him out of the way.

Football leaves me in despair sometimes. The so called authorities are absolutely fine with theatrics, play-acting, and downright cheating by the likes of AS, but jump all over minor incidents like this. It's pathetic.

Everything that Accrington did during the 90 mins stretched the laws of the game and was without doubt unsporting. However, what they did not do was blatantly break the laws of the game. What Morsey did was stupid and unprofessional and will never go unnoticed in the modern game. He'll have time to reflect during his 4 match ban. A real shame, he'll be very much missed.

Carlisleaway, Morsey did let them upset him! That's why he reacted that way.

Interested to see the charges against the away player who cleaned Celina out with a smack to the throat. Or the one who deliberately left studs in on Walton well after the ball had gone.

Or does Ashton need to get pally with some ex-refs first before we see some ‘consistency'?

Not really surprised - hard to be neutral of course, but it did look pretty bad.

With all respect to Morsy, he does seem to be somewhat loose headed at times

Dancing on Ice featuring Accrington Stanley. Getting sick to the death of watching teams come to PR to fall over and roll around.

Is it the same AS player who Kieran McKenna was speaking to right at the end of the "Town in 5" footage (asked after his mother) or am I getting them mixed up?

Footage is pretty conclusive. Deserves retrospective action.
