Town have sold more than 25,000 tickets for Saturday’s home game against Cambridge United.

The Blues go into the match top of the division on goal difference from Portsmouth and unbeaten.

The U’s have also made a strong start to the campaign and sit in fifth in the table but having been beaten twice and drawn once in their three away games up to now, while winning all four of their home matches.

Town will be looking to beat Cambridge in the league for the first time in their history with the U’s having won two - including last season’s Portman Road fixture - and drawn two of the past meetings.

The Blues will be hoping that sales over the next few days will take the total of seats sold above the 26,688, the highest crowd this season which watched the 1-1 opening-day draw with Bolton Wanderers.

Tuesday's game is the first of two at home in the week with Bristol Rovers at Portman Road next Tuesday.

ArnieM added 17:17 - Sep 7 When we are promoted , I can see GC making plans to redevelop the Cobbold Stand, which is now outdated. I get the feeling there are events unfolding behind the scenes that will a significant re development of the whole of Portman Road ( I don't mean just the stadium) in cahoots with the Borough Council. Something that would never have happened under the Evans regime. He just wanted to own the ground. Which could have been a disaster for ITFC. So much to be positive about these days isn't there.

GC are here to make money in the foreseeable future...They will be looking for teh team to progress to the Championship 7 then the Prem.....a stadium to suit that is a no brainer.......It will be great to see as an older fan & fantastic for the up & coming young fans.....COYB..ITID....

chepstowblue added 21:04 - Sep 7 If there are changes I hope Portman Rd doesn't lose its character or identity. There is nothing as soulless as the majority of these new football stadiums. There is also no point in upping it to a ridiculous capacity. Whilst the club has ambition and potential we have to remember who we are and where we are geographically located. 30,000 is a perfect size, unless it's all about status symbol and playing in a half empty stadium.

Europablue added 21:27 - Sep 7 churchmans My Dad and I went to every game in the league for years, but never had a season ticket (not sure what my Dad's reasoning was), then we missed out on the playoff semi-final against Bolton, but managed to get tickets for Wembley. In the Premier League because of all the glory supporters we only got tickets in the draw. I remember being very close to David Beckham as he scored an equalizer against us. My Dad is a debenture holder now!

ArnieM added 21:35 - Sep 7 Chepstowblue: I'm pretty sure when Gamechanger took possession of the Club their remit as to rebuild the Club and invest snd reignite the community m, but when they were searching for a club they looked gif one that had the core principles that matched theirs. I'm sure somewhere in the interviews and comments from their representatives, they said they wanted to maintain the Club's identity and “brand” and that they gad no wish to change this but to develop and encourage it further.

Adelaideblue added 21:37 - Sep 7 Would be a long trip for me, havent been back to the UK since we left in 2012, but if and when we do make the visit - a game or three will hopefully be in order :) In the mean time I will have to make do with the Ifollow games, thankfully at the moment kick off here is 1130 pm, so nice and watchable, the clock changes will sadly mess with that and make them a far less attractive 1.30 am - then we will see how dedicated I remain to watching the games live LOL

There was a huge crowd for Alan Hunter's testimonial against Celtic and I do remember the place being rammed against Liverpool, can't remember the year Mich D' Avray headed the winner of a 1 0 in the 85th minute. Beattiesballbag added 22:23 - Sep 7 chepstowblue, your way off the mark, with a team in the top flight we would need a capacity in excess of 30,000, as under Sir Bobby we had lock outs on 36000, Under George Burley we had a reduced capacity down to 30000 which resulted in lock outs. The population in this part of the world has grown considerably since then & Mark Ashton & Co are well aware of this & the potential to fill a bigger stadium....If we are good enough to get back up there .....they will come.

AlanG296 added 23:01 - Sep 7 However for our first year back in the top flight for the first year of the Premier league 1992 having won the second division, and with the capacity then reduced to only about 22300 in an all seater ground, we pulled in less than 20000 on more than half the games. Town crowds have varied massively over the last 50 years, not convinced we'll ever need more than the capacity we have now. If we were competing top half of the Premier maybe but that's not going to happen.

hogster1970 added 08:02 - Sep 8 Well for me I can't see the point in expanding say the coop or Portman standonly on the reason for modernization as they are very old and very cramped. Back in the good old days when your attendance cash went along way towards your running costs unfortunately now esp in the prem it doesn't make a huge difference in comparison to the cash you receive being in the prem. I personally think it's all wrong but hey ho. But we will see. I can't wait for Saturday and let's hope for a win

carsey added 08:15 - Sep 8 I agree with @Beattiesballbag - the population for Ipswich now stands at around 140,000 compared to 116,000 in the 1980's and that's not taking in to account the massive increase in the surrounding towns like Felixstowe and Stowmarket. Provided the club keeps going the way it has started this season the sky's the limit.

NITFC added 13:19 - Sep 8 Beattiesballbag - point taken about the increased population in the area but actually we had remarkably few attendances over 30,000 in the Bobby Robson era when we really were worth watching. It makes the attendances to watch 3rd division football right now even more amazing
