Swans Recall Whittaker From Plymouth
Tuesday, 3rd Jan 2023 18:46

Swansea have confirmed the recall of forward Morgan Whittaker from his loan at League One leaders Plymouth Argyle.

The move had been widely expected following Swans manager Russell Martin’s comments regarding on-loan Whittaker last night.
"
Argyle director of football Neil Dewsnip told his club’s website: “We are obviously disappointed that Morgan’s loan has been cut short.

“He was enjoying his football tremendously and we felt we were providing the best possible environment for him to develop and contribute.

""“We did everything we could to retain Morgan for the duration of the loan as initially agreed, but it was not to be.

“Morgan loved his football here, which is a testament to [manager] Steven Schumacher and the club as a whole for our approach to player care and we hope he can continue to build on the promise he has shown here.

""“The recruitment department at the club plans for any eventuality and we are already well under way with our January operations, as is clear by the additions of Ben Waine and Saxon Earley.

""“Argyle is an exciting club to play for right now and a brilliant place for talented young players to come and improve, as Morgan has evidenced.

“We are confident that, thanks to the backing of the board, our additions in January will ensure that we are not knocked off course by the disappointing loss of Morgan.”

Whittaker appears unlikely to play for Swansea from Martin's comments yesterday when he said it was the club's owners who had instigated the recall with a permanent switch away from South Wales on the cards.

In November, TWTD revealed that the 21-year-old was among those on Town's list of potential January recruits. Whether the Blues' interest ultimately comes to fruition remains to be seen, while other clubs, including some in the Championship, are understood to be keen.

Elsewhere, it's expected that summer Town target George Hirst's loan from Leicester to Blackburn will be cut short in January with the Foxes then set to send the 23-year-old out elsewhere.

The striker has made only three starts and eight sub appearances for the Ewood Park club.

I'm beginning to get a good feeling about this. Why would Swansea recall if not for sale? Surely they would leave him in his successful loan stint?

Get him in !

I'd go all in for this guy. Young, potential to improve but more importantly a proven goal scorer at this level. Swansea must either be looking to cash in or use him but their own manager says the strike department is their most competitive part of the squad. In any case this recall weakens a promotion rival so win win!

Great news this, even if it's just so that Plymouth don't get to keep him!

Ashton couldn't… could he?

Hopefully Scarlett will be recalled next from his Pompey loan and both he and Whittaker then sign for Town. Now that would be a real statement of intent!

If he has been settled at Plymouth as his performances have proved would signing him for us be unsettling for him unless of course Mr Ashton has been in his ear for a while and he is up for it having said that it's all a bit strange but then that's football these days.

He's on record as saying "I don't want to return to Swansea or move to another club. I'd rather stay at Plymouth" He needs to be totally committed if he's going to join us. He's obviously enjoying his time at Plymouth. This "could" backfire on us if not!! COYB 💙

Trac70, people in football have a reputation for telling the occasional untruth!!

Would be a better signing than Taylor because he carries a far better goal threat as McKenna stated we are not converting the chances we are creating. Taylor would be a very good addition to the squad but i don't think he would offer anything different to the team.

Even if he doesn't arrive here, at least Plymouth have lost an important part of their promotion campaign

Best player in League 1 in my view. Was brilliant against us with his high energy approach to the game. What a statement of ambition if we get him

Unsure he'd quickly transform his loyalties from Green to Blue to be honest, I'd be very happy to see Aaron Collins come in however.

Whether we get him or not, this is great news! Big blow to Plymouth.

Linkboy13. Taylor, if he signs, will be here to compete with, and cover for morsey and evans, not for a number 10 role.

Wouldnt get too excited guys. All the signs, from what ive read today are that hes being recalled to go into the Swansea squad. Not to go elsewhere. Have to wait and see I guess

Whilst i have every respect for what trac70 says, that interview was 100% done with a local paper or radio station in Plymouth.
Its not really gonna be a situation where the boy feels able to say "sod it fellas im off to Ipswich its a better gig there with more money and a chance to play at a much higher level".
But thats more likely the truth, and a long term deal here with our potential, support and financial backing is not only better than Plymouth, its probably going to be bigger than Swansea will settle to be again.
Fingers crossed, it aint done til its done :)

Granted its the plymouth local rag .. but the quote on Plymouth live is that

Director of football Neil Dewsnip is confident League One leaders Plymouth Argyle will not be 'knocked off course by the disappointing loss' of Morgan Whittaker.

Club officials received formal confirmation late this afternoon that Swansea City would recall the talented 21-year-old attacker from his scheduled season-long loan with the Pilgrims to play a part in their Championship campaign.

Hoping the part he is going to play in their championship campaign is going to be to get them some funds!

Wouldn't mind Morgan Rogers who played in the same team when they were both at Lincoln! If we don't get whittaker in then I'm still happy he aint in Plymouths squad! Big blow for them.
