Town Make Eight Changes For Burnley Tie
Saturday, 28th Jan 2023 14:47

Town boss Kieran McKenna makes eight changes for this afternoon’s FA Cup fourth round tie at home to Burnley with only skipper Sam Morsy, George Edmundson and Lee Evans remaining from the team which beat Morecambe 4-0 on Tuesday.

Vaclav Hladky comes in in goal behind Janoi Donacien, Luke Woolfenden and Edmundson. Greg Leigh and Kayden Jackson are the widemen with Morsy and Evans the central midfield pairing.

Sone Aluko and Marcus Harness are the number 10s behind central striker George Hirst.

Town name a strong nine-man bench featuring top scorer Conor Chaplin, Nathan Broadhead, Kyle Edwards, Massimo Luongo and Cameron Humphreys.

Harry Clarke is ineligible having played for Stoke earlier in the competition, while neither Leif Davis nor Wes Burns are in the squad.

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany makes seven changes from the team which beat West Brom 2-1 a week ago yesterday.

Scott Twine, who signed for the Clarets from the MK Dons in the summer, is handed his full debut, while new signing Ameen Al-Dakhil makes his Clarets bow and fellow recent recent recruits Lyle Foster and Hjalmar Ekdal are among the subs.

Town: Hladky, Donacien, Woolfenden, Edmundson, Jackson, Evans, Morsy (c), Leigh, Aluko, Harness, Hirst. Subs: Walton, Burgess, Vincent-Young, Humphreys, Luongo, Edwards, Broadhead, Chaplin, Ladapo.

Burnley: Peacock-Farrell, Taylor, Cork (c), Rodriguez, Twine, Da Silva, Tella, Bastien, Churlinov, Al-Dakhil, Beyer. Subs: Capser, Brownhill, Barnes, Foster, Roberts, Ekdal, Zaroury, Cullen, Maatsen. Referee: Tom Nield (West Yorkshire).

Good game time for some fringe players. Keep the squad up match fitness. So far good start by town.

Rather strange line up...those 'fringe' (Hirst/Jackson/Edwards) players that came on against Morecambe did little in the game, personally thought we might have had a stronger side than this.

…. more strange selections - are we serious about this Cup Competition ? - if not Why bother to even enter ?
No substitute for a settled side, and game time together - been proved time and time again !!

Very slow start to the 2nd half - get Chaplin and Broadhead on

Makes me laugh if we played our best side and someone crucial got injured people would moan saying he should have fringe players in and it could cost us the league McKenna cannot win one way or the other with some on here. I'm all for settled side during league games but not in a cup we are NOT going to win. League IS our priority a cup runs great but not at the expense of the league.

typical response from BeattiesbackPocket as the Wednesday game is next week - surely you play game to game and winning breeds confidence? some of our consistent starters are now on...but I'd swap a loss today for a win next weekend but in an ideal world shouldn't we be going all out for wins today and next Saturday? even if we pick up an injury we have the strength in the squad for next weekend.

BeattiesBackPocket …. Who said ‘at the expense of the League' ? - all that is left without the Cup for this Season, realistically is the Play Offs as things stand - and that is under serious threat from the chasing pack !!
It is now a very much ‘keep watching over the Shoulder situation'.
The Automatic Promotion slots have been taken away from us - by two better Teams !!

By the way I'd say Morsey and Evans were crucial and they've both started...

With this Squad now at McK's disposal, there can be NO EXCUSE for failure in anything - least of all League 1 (Division 3) !!
Many of our opponents at Division 3 level have NO option but to play whatever they have, in terms of players available, game after game.
Rotation is NOT an option for such Team Managers !
The Cup has to be seen as important to ALL associated with our Club, the Squad should NOT need to be seen as anything less than capable of such.
Just check the Depth and Strength of it … !! - the Owners have provided, the Supporters have committed - now lets see AT LAST what has every right to be EXPECTED !
It will by the Owners …. !!!

TimmyH normal response from you as well. We drew against a top side playing premier league footy next year and Wednesday drew at home against Fleetwood having made changes. Surely these managers no better than you me and blueboy and they decided as does every manager for the most part in three leagues to rest a lot of their best players

Blueboy you keep on going on about the play offs now? We're literally only 2 games into the second half of the season still have to play Wednesday and they still have to play Plymouth there's still 60 plus points to play for. I'll worry in a couple of months if we're still this many point behind top two
