Brentford and West Brom Trials For Armin
Tuesday, 4th Apr 2023 16:20

TWTD understands Blues youngster Albie Armin is joining Premier League Brentford on trial, having previously spent a similar spell with Championship West Bromwich Albion.

Armin, 18, is out of contract at the end of the season and is among the young players set to be released by the Blues.

The Colchester-born centre-half trained with the Baggies’ development squad last week and this week is spending time with the Bees’ B team set-up.

Brentford scrapped their academy in 2016 and now run a B team playing friendlies, while recruiting players who have been released by other clubs’ academies.

Armin made one senior start and three sub appearances for the Blues, all in cups over the last two seasons, and also spent a short spell on loan at Braintree.

Thought he looked, decent when I've seen him surprised he was not given another year, strange clubs higher up the pyramid are taking a look.

Tis is very surprising, having watched him many times for U21s and imo was consistently our best player. A leader, strong tackling, positive, driving player...not too dissimilar to Flyn Downes. This will be someone else's BiG (free) gain.

cannot believe that we are in the 3rd, and brentford are in the 1st and they are poaching our players !!!!!

what has been going on these last few years ?

KMc and his team have been here for a year, so I suppose that they are making the hard decisions on who has a chance of making it and who should be released. I am surprised that Armin is one of those to be released as I had heard good things about him, but KMc is the expert not me.

Lots of players have potential, lots don't make the most of loan spells, etc., in order to show they can make the step up. Some will turn things round with new clubs, maturity and so on - my faith is in our current management, and if they've chosen to release him so be it. Wish him well though.

I would say that McKenna isn't the main man as far as this decision is concerned as he will be largely focused on the first team. The other coaches will be far more involved. Still, interesting if Brentford take him on as they have a good record of bringing through others' rejects.

Radlettblue. Of course mckenna is the main man in this. Ges,other coaches will have their input but if mckenna saw him as possible1st team material, he'd no doubt have wanted to keep him here longer to see how he develops. So guess he doesn't think that. That doesn't mean he won't succeed elsewhere mind you.

Personally think this is part of the new owners vision. they want success sooner rather than later, so will happily buy the talent in rather than develop it. (IMO)

Indeed, Billybob, most of Town's promising young players won't make it as professional players at the level we aspire to reach, especially as our best prospects get nicked by PL clubs with Cat 1 status. The Brentford model of abandoning the academy & running a B team has considerable merit.

Difficult one without sufficient information. It could be that the player wants to move on/is unsettled at Town. Or it could be that he isn't fitting in. There are many reasons other than playing talent. I note the two teams are in the two biggest cities.
