Morsy Linked With Saudi Clubs
Thursday, 20th Jul 2023 21:23

Blues skipper Sam Morsy is reported to be interesting clubs in Saudi Arabia.

An increasing number of Europe-based players are moving to the Saudi Pro League, most notably Cristiano Ronaldo, with very significant levels of cash provided by the PIF, the country's sovereign wealth investment fund, as the nation seeks to build its league.

Liverpool veteran Jordan Henderson is on the verge of a move to Al Ettifaq, who are managed by Steven Gerrard, and now it’s reported Blues captain Morsy is another of those being targeted, by so-far unnamed clubs. And we understand there is some truth to the reports.

The Egypt international is 32 in just over a month and a big pay day at this stage of his career could be attractive.

Morsy has two years left on his Town contract, the new deal he signed last summer having included a clause which would trigger an additional season on promotion to the Championship.

This would be an utter disaster if this happens.

He will want to see a couple out at Town first. He can still get a good deal at 33. Besides, and I get that everyone will not agree, but if we were to contest, get a top 6, and get through, he won’t be the future….he’s just perfect, in every way, now! COYB

I'd be surprised and disappointed if it happened, crazy money aside. My money is on a new deal.

Was not expecting this sure we may get an ok fee but not sure how we replace Morsy if he goes. Will be a shame if we lose him but wouldn’t blame him if he went for the money.

Money talks! And let’s face it they are throwing around silly money so why wouldn’t Sammi consider his options. I thought Sky was footballs major threat but now it seems this Saudi onslaught is the new concern. I absolutely hate how football has gone this way; success bought at any cost and now whole leagues being snapped up to the highest bidder.

Saudi PIF can jog on. We don’t want to become a Newcastle tainted with Saudi money!

He's reportedly on £10k a week with us, but he could certainly double that at least, with a top flight Saudi side. We've got to accept that there are options out there that will be tempting to our players.
I'd like to think he'll see out his contract to the end of this season, but it's hard for a player coming to the end of his career, to turn down life changing wages, especially with a family to support.

Can't believe people actually believe this. Yer, teams out there are signing players like benzema, mahrez(not gone yet), neves, top players from top leagues in the world. And they're gonna, want Sam Morsey? Who plays in the championship? Don't think so somehow. Would be amazed if this is anything other than a fake story, made up by some1 on a wind up.

Hope and pray our captain stays with us,but if not hopefully we can achieve a decent fee for him,5 million should do it !! They can afford it !!

Whilst Morsy still has something to offer Ipswich, Saudi clubs tend to pay over the odds for players. So it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he did go. Rather than going there on a free next season. We could use the income for another young hungry midfielder

If I was his agent, I would be 'reporting' this too. We love you Sam, but if there really is a deal and you actually feel the need to take it, (and it makes sense for ITFC) then always know you have been appreciated here.... and that we will recruit and be stronger again. That's the way of the world! COYB

The Saudi's have a dreadful record on Human Rights and equality, for that reason I would say no thank you, but then everyone has a price. I suspect however that Sam is a man of principal and would not be interested.

His actually got two yrs on his contract the problem is if his offered 30 grand 2 Yr deal he may well want it possibly treble his wages I think Ashton would get 2.5/3 million just what could we get with the money.

Sammy was my player of the season last season. He will be a huge loss to our team if we sell him. But money talks - just ask Gary Lineker. Never forget that that left wing Corbynite took the money to present World Cup coverage in Qatar.

Depends what the Saudis are offering. A player has to put his family's financial security first. It would be hard to begrudge a 32 year-old one last (big) pay day. Football is a job to them, after all.

@barrystedmunds. Totally agree - football is a joke. On the plus side tho, maybe the Saudi league growing dominant might start to level the playing field in this country again and mean clubs like ours can stop having to behave like Serfs to the showbiz teams and told to be grateful for finishing 16th if we get up. Wouldn't it be so gutting to see those Big Six start to have all their players poached like they've done to us for 30 years.

Japan then China tried this a few years ago offering silly wages , it won’t last , no one is interested in a Saudi league!

There's more than just wages to consider, but family life - would you want to live there with your family in all honesty? Not a great place for wives and daughters? hope he doesn't leave entirely for my selfish reasons - he is our heartbeat and probably the single most player responsible for our promotion. Our captain and leader on the pitch and an example off i .

Yes Rob I think that also but if they keep getting in players like there starting to (mahrez,Henderson, mitrovic from the prem leauge and there now offering Marco silva £40million for a 2year contract to manage a team) I fear for football in 5yrs time! It was SERIE A in the 80's 90's now it is the PREM leauge in 5 years time with a TV deal it could be the SAUDI leauge I hope not but who knows what will happen!!
I reckon it is only a matter of time until we see champions leauge final In Saudi arabia
