Schwartz Flies Over For Talks With Ashton and McKenna Friday, 24th May 2024 16:12 Majority shareholder Ed Schwartz has flown over to the UK to hold talks with CEO Mark Ashton and manager Kieran McKenna as the Blues seek to keep the Northern Irishman at Portman Road, TWTD understands.
Over the last few days, McKenna has emerged as a target of Brighton and Hove Albion, Manchester United and Chelsea with his representatives understood to have held talks with all three clubs.
But Town remain hopeful of keeping the man who has guided them to back-to-back promotions at Portman Road for their first Premier League campaign in 22 years.
We understand Schwartz, the CEO of ORG, the US investment firm which manages funds on behalf of the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS), the club’s majority owner, flew over from the States earlier this week especially for the talks with Ashton and McKenna.
Schwartz and Blues CEO Ashton were spotted together yesterday at the Salthouse Hotel - and pictured by a fan with those images passed on to TWTD - with the Blues trying to do everything they can to keep McKenna at Portman Road. We understand he is also set to speak to McKenna while in Ipswich.
A new more lucrative extended deal seems certain to be part of the discussions with McKenna already contracted to the club until the summer of 2027.

McKenna hasn't managed one game in the PL yet. It shows how crazy the situations at Chelsea and Man Utd are. Chelsea in particular are a clown car of a club. Totally unmanageable. McKenna should stay with us, enhance his reputation and get himself talked about as a future Man City manager in a few years.

Just saw that Xavi fired by Barcelona, will he be the nice new thing for Chelsea!

I am getting to the point where I don’t want McKenna to stay. Clearly we are the 2nd best option. The club is the bigger entity. We need a manager in place who wants to be here.

Just watched the celebrations of fans, players and owners celebrate after the final whistle of the Huddersfield match. So much happiness from McKenna, I think he needs to take a serious look at this again.

I love my club and McK has proven to be a great manager with our current crop of players BUT I am getting to the stage where I hope that he does go as even if he stays there will always be doubts about his commitment to the club

I don't think McKenna has said he doesn't want to be here, in fact he has said speculation on moves is not his focus. Clubs are talking to his reps and he is being "head hunted" which is expected. He could come out and say he is not interested but that would be short sighted, at least listen to what people have to say (including Schwartz) before making a decision and in the meantime focus on working on your current role. I don't mind at all having an ambitious head coach at Town and if he stays then he will not have lost any respect I have for him, and if he leaves then he has still given us 2 glorious years and in Ashton I trust.

Has anyone stopped to consider this, McKenna may not get an offer! He has had talks. I'm sure we've all been interviewed for a position but have been unsuccessful!

IF HE is over here to talk to k mac that is just a bad idea. IF if he wants to stay he will if he wants togo, he will. I would love him to stay but because he wants to with no pressure. Not because hes getting pressured and more money to doso. Our manager is a very screwed on young man so let him make his choice his way. Everyone will be far better off

To be honest from all the rumours flying around about ourselves, United, Chelsea and Brighton, the media are having an absolute field day! Some people are going ott unnecessarily....This is all being over hyped up by the media, and some people are buying every word hook line and sinker from literal Chinese whispers. Only a small number of the people involved really know whats actually going on, there are no facts presented anywhere at present, just rumours. Believing all the hype currently... that's like completely believing a person in your friend group that no one really likes and knowing they're toxic, but you feel sorry for them and so keep them involved, and them telling you that your close friend Matt has been bad mouthing you behind your back and is also sleeping with your wife, knowing that they tell the truth 1% of the time, but you ALL know they lie 99% of the time, but taking the toxic friends words as gospel without knowing any true facts. Moral of the story... take everything with a pinch of salt before jumping to conclusions. The end.

The way I see things are:- BHA and Chelsea both have a vacancy for a manager. MU do not (currently) have a vacancy for a manager. BHA or Chelsea have not made any formal approach and request to speak with KMcK in over a week, which as we know is a lifetime during the close season. This suggest there are other names in the frame who both clubs want to explore. MU whilst a little disorganised, even they wouldn't be so disrespectful to make a formal request to speak to KMcK whilst their current manager is in the post. So its as KMCK said himself at the start of the week, its all media speculation to be expected on the back of the last 2 season. let the dust of the last 2 weeks settle, then we can all move on and get behind KMcK and MA whilst they pull together the team ready for the PL.

Handcuff him to Portman Road until the start of the season. I don't think he going anywhere, this will soon all be yesterdays chip paper.

The fact that McKenna's advisers are actually talking to clubs indicates that he's prepared to move on it's not rocket science even for some of the simpletons on here. If he was dead keen on staying at Portman road he would have knocked it on the head straight away instead all we are getting from him is it's just speculation. I get the feeling he wasn't getting the financial support he required to be competitive in the Premier league. It's going to be very difficult to replace him. There will be no hard feelings from me i shall wish him all the best. Just hope im proved wrong but it's not sounding good at the moment.

TractorfactorSteve. Are you for real? And what are they supposed to teach him? Like everyone else, you don't know what mckenna has said or not said about whetgerxjezwants to stay or go. But ur judging him . Ridiculous. And anyway, if he goes, we should all say thankyou for what hes done for us, and wish him every success for his future. Don't know, what work you do, but if another company came in, and offered you a much better deal, would you turn them down? Whtmy should a football manager be any different. To him it's his job, just as urs is.

Ed Schwartz is an experienced businessman. He was only over here a couple of weeks ago for the Huddersfield game (I shook his hand! lol). Therefore he is most probably here to discuss the McKenna situation. One thing is for certain, he will not be begging KM to stay. He will be ensuring MA has offered KM a generous but proportionate upgrade on his contract, but mostly he will want to know MA's plans for continuity of the project plan the board has set out. It does not, and should not, hinge on KM being at the club.

Letchworth Blue that is about the most sensible reflection I’ve seen on the speculations.I believe how we navigate this is a serious stress test of the organisational structure at town and as such will have a huge bearing on our ability to grow and develop with or without KMc. If we’re cute if or when he goes we can install someone who can add further to our Prem security. If he stays the we get on with it in much the same vein. Let’s just hope for a definitive answer quickly so whatever process conceived by Ashton can be developed!
gosblue added 22:01 - May 24
Schwartz will be here to discuss many things including a multi-million dollar investment in infrastructure and personnel. And if MA hasn’t already produced a list of potential replacements for KM should he decide to go, then MA is not worth his salt. I think we all trust our owners and MA to do what’s best for the club.

I don't believe McKenna or his representatives have gone out to search for interest, it has come to them. How flattering to be wanted by some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and the world. He has a decision, should he dismiss the interest in him or discuss what they offer, because his ambition makes him the manager he is, he goes for the latter. That's not unreasonable. Being realistic, he has a League 1 squad of players, who he has made Championship successes. He cannot do the same trick again and he must know that. If we don't recruit well we get relegated and his stock falls and those offers may never materialise again. So what does he do, stick or twist? Man Utd and Chelsea both present challenges experienced international managers have failed to overcome, so Brighton might be a good choice for him. So many people are dismissing them as nowhere as big as us. That's crazy, they are one of the best run in the country and have a team full of quality players and a very good recruitment policy. I have read on here they are a selling club which of course Aston said we aren't, that is also crazy. There are only a handful in the Premier League that aren't selling clubs and if anyone believes Ashton they are deluded. McKenna has the toughest decision if he's offered something - which of course he may not be. Just remember the days of Sir Bobby and George Burley have gone, the Champions League is a very, very long way away now, you do have to be with the very biggest clubs to get to that promised land.

A big challenge - not fully understood yet I think - is FFP and Town being restricted by 3 previous seasons in the EFL, this reduces our 3 year loss limit to a combined £60m not the £105m other teams will be allowed. This is a massive constraint and one that could be a factor in KM's mind - we will be limited in what we can spend. £20m on Omari? £5m a year on KM? These are big restrictions and so it's up to Town to maximise revenues at the top end to allow some player signings. Brighton are established and a well run club with a good squad. It's the better choice for him at this stage in his career. They make more sense than Chelski or United to me. I hope he stays but whatever In Ashton I Trust. Just make it soon

I suspect it's a choice of Man U or stay for Kieran, and he's waiting to see what happens at the former before committing. We don't know (and probably he doesn't either) whether he will actually be offered the Man U job. Whatever the outcome, I hope (and believe) that the ITFC structure is now resilient enough to survive.
