Hutchinson Out of England U21s
Wednesday, 4th Sep 2024 20:08

Blues forward Omari Hutchinson has returned to Town from the England U21s squad for medical assessment.

The 20-year-old, who has previously won full caps with Jamaica, was named in the England U21s squad for the first time alongside teammate Liam Delap, who has won five U21s caps, scoring one goal.

However, the FA has revealed the former Chelsea man and a number of other players have now returned to their clubs.

“Harvey Elliott (Liverpool), Omari Hutchinson (Ipswich Town), Jaden Philogene (Aston Villa) and Sam Tickle (Wigan Athletic) initially reported to St George’s Park earlier this week but have now returned to their clubs for further medical assessment,” a statement reads.

The England youngsters take on Northern Ireland in an U21s European Championshp qualifier in Ballymena on Friday, then face Austria in a friendly at Kenilworth Road next Monday.

Not sure Sam Tickle’s injury will be a laughing matter for his club.

Apologies.

How can 4 players have picked up injuries with England? Can't get my head around that at all. We should be told what happened?

Players and clubs do not want these meaningless games.
The International football scene needs a complete overhaul.

Don’t players have to report for England duty even if they are carrying an injury? Then the England medical team assess them etc, then if they are deemed unfit to play they are sent back to there parent club. Thought that was the norm.

MaySixth, how do you put two and two together and come up with that theory?

WTF does this mean? So vague. I hope Hutch was just feigning something to get out of utterly pointless U21 action.

"Initially reported but have now returned to their clubs"? Sounds almost as if they didn't even train?

Not necessarily injuries though .....Could be a virus that has affected some of the lads....[ hopefully ].....Town hasn't reported any concerns with Omari after the last game either....

3 games in to the new season then we have a pointless international break ? The English squad had been together most of the summer in Euros

I agree these games are pointless but it's a 38 game season in the premier league and only the FA cup to worry about where we will probably field a weakened team any way with staying in the premier league our main priority. We will almost certainly be playing behind closed doors friendlies during the break where we could easily get injuries and some will think these are pointless games. It's about getting a happy balance we don't want the players getting injured but we need to keep them match fit. The new players will have had very time to settle into their new surroundings with their families and this break will allow them to settle in.

These fixtures are meaningless to fans, and I'm sure a headache for managers, but I got the impression that Hutchinson was delighted with the call up based on how much he posted about it on Instagram. He's on the cusp of being able to switch allegiance to the England team, and must want to have the chance to be considered for England over Jamaica. This seemed like a big step in his development. A shame for him, but hopefully it's just an illness and he's back training with us

Normally I would agree that these are pointless and meaningless, I think that potentially this could help us, more time for Hirst and broady to recover more time to integrate the new players. And with how we played on sat I would reckon the players will be even more desperate to get out playing again.

It says for an assessment not an injury. So no need to panic.
