Town Women at Billericay Hoping to Return to the Top Wednesday, 25th Sep 2024 11:22 Ipswich Town Women will be hoping to return to the top of the FAWNL Southern Premier Division when they take on Billericay Town at New Lodge this evening (KO 7.45pm). The Blues were usurped at the summit by Hashtag United on Sunday after their game at Gwalia United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Hashtag, who host Lewes this evening, took full advantage, beating the MK Dons 3-0 to move three points ahead of the Blues, Watford, Exeter, Oxford and Billericay. Town have played two fewer games than Hashtag and one fewer than the Hornets. The U’s are away against the MK Dons this evening, while Watford host AFC Wimbledon tomorrow. Sunday’s game was Town’s second in succession to be postponed, the previous weekend’s match with Dons having been called off as the Londoners were in cup action. The Blues, who trained at Stanley Park in Chippenham on their way back from the postponed Gwalia fixture, are unsurprisingly itching to get back into match action. “We’re chomping to get going because we missed out on playing Wimbledon and Sunday was called off and we’ve gone a while,” manager Joe Sheehan said. “We’re all really geared up, we’re ready to compete again and we’re ready to compete again. “It’s always an exciting game when you play under the lights whether it’s home or away. “We’re away from home, but it’s a night game which adds a little bit of spice to it and one we’re really excited for.” The Billericay squad features a number of former Town players, among them the Essex side’s current top scorer Maddie Biggs, Bonnie Horwood and Nia Evans, who both made the move in the summer, and Olivia Smith. “It’s always a competitive game, it’s always got a bit of an edge to it,” Sheehan added. “There always seem to be some mutual friendships between both teams, so it adds a little bit of an edge. “Obviously some players who have played for both clubs. I’m sure it will be a really exciting encounter and one we’re looking forward to.”
