Town Ball 17 in FA Cup Draw Sunday, 1st Dec 2024 11:10 Town will be ball number 17 in Monday evening’s draw for the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.
The draw will take place at Old Trafford and broadcast live on BBC Two and the iPlayer, as well as the FA Cup’s official social media channels, from 7pm.
Kelly Somers is presenting, while Mark Hughes and Dion Dublin will be in charge of picking out the balls.
Town, who won the competition for the only time in 1978, go into the hat for the first time this season along with all the other Premier League and Championship clubs.
Asked about what he was after from the draw at Thursday’s press conference, manager Kieran McKenna said the competition won’t come into his thoughts for some while yet.
“A home tie against a lower-ranked team, that’ll be easy!” he smiled ruefully, reflecting on last season’s third-round exit to National League South Maidstone, who are already out of this year’s competition.
“I’ve not thought about it, to be honest. The full focus is up until Fulham, which is the break of these Christmas fixtures and we chunk that period down like we do.
“After that, there’s no break but there’s the FA Cup, which can be like a break at times because it gives you a break from the league period.
“So, once we get past Fulham we’ll look forward to the FA Cup and try and do our best in it. But until then I don’t think we’re going to give it too many thoughts.”
Third round ties will be played over the weekend of Saturday 11th January.

Number 27 at home please. Something random, if given the choice, what would you choose...winning the FA Cup and getting relegated or staying up this season??

Def staying up GForce....Next 2 home games are huge, hope Omari and Morsy get through without another booking. Delap is going to need help as soon as poss. I think we will beat Newcastle at home in a few weeks but really worried b4 that. I genuinely think we have been amazing so far and am as proud as ever to be a town fan. Love the f a cup but prem footy is the ultimate, even accounting for fewer games and VAR.

@bluewax i would like to see the team with philips not morsy in midfield he slows are play and players always looking to him when philips plays we attack far quicker whichbis reqiired in this league. Morsy wont be dropped so a booking or injury will be only way he wont play he also recently cannot play box to box which is needed and on Sat he had numerous chances to shoot and didnt he is resmebling jordan henderson and it would be interesting to see us without him

I personally think the Fa cup is hugely undervalued. Football at its core is about winning trophies. Staying up would be amazing, but we won’t sing about it in 50 years. An fa cup win is what all prem teams should aspire to.

Fair comment Grinch and that's the beauty of opinions in football. I just feel Morsy is immense as a leader, breaks up play superbly and rarely loses possession.

I predict 4 pts from next 2 home games, draw at Wolves...beat tge toon which will give us 17 pts at Xmas. Nothing from rest of festive period. 33 pts will keep us up. Everton will be in drop zone by Xmas for sure.

Spot on Oldschool. FA Cup win everyday. What's the point in staying up and having continuous mediocre seasons and eventually ending up getting relegated anyway?

Easy, winning the FA Cup.

I wonder how many of those who say 'staying up' were there at Wembley in '78. It was a day never to be forgotten, memories of which will stay with fans for the rest of their lives. Even though it doesn't have the same kudos, it has to be winning that trophy.

I was at Wembley in 1978 and at Amsterdam in 1981. Having been through the leagues down to level 3 over the years since then I can say without hesitation that I would rather stay up than win the FA Cup. I wouldn't mind both, though.

My only hope for the FA Cup is to avoid another embarrasing defeat to a non league, League 1 or League 2 team and injuries to Davis, Hutchinson and Delap. The best third round draw for me would be a big Premier League team at home. Of course, a good run in the cup would be great for team confidence and for us fans but I won't get my hopes up!
