Wolves Forward Cunha Charged By FA
Tuesday, 17th Dec 2024 11:34

Wolves forward Matheus Cunha has been charged with misconduct by the FA following the incident following the Blues’ 2-1 victory over the Old Gold at Molineux on Saturday.

Cunha was pictured elbowing a member of the Town security staff in the back of the head and then removing his glasses and shoving him in the face in a fracas at the end of the match which also led to his teammate Rayan Aït-Nouri being shown a second yellow card and Liam Delap picking up his fifth booking of the season, which will keep him out of Saturday’s home game against Newcastle.

The FA allege the Brazilian acted in an improper manner and has until Thursday to provide a response.

Lord Mac, yes I’m sure you are right and the Police prefer the FA to deal with skirmishes which take place on a match day between the players. However, the Police are compelled to investigate allegations of assault once a complaint has been made, wherever it takes place. Also, considering the alleged victim is not a player, but an individual carrying out his job of work inside the ground, the situation is very different to that of players fighting with each other. For example, say the alleged victim was a steward, and he makes a complaint to the Police, then the Police would have to investigate it. As far as assailants are concerned, footballers are subjected to the same rule of law as the rest of us, whether or not an offence takes place inside a football ground or not.

Steelmonkey - he's a young man, with very little experience. At 21 and so much talent, i'm surprised he's as composed as he is. The aggression isn't a switch, it's part of his game. He'll get better but not before getting it wrong along the way.

Lord_Mac's assessment is very interesting. It's serious assault any day of the week, lots of commentators and pundits are avoiding commenting on the specifics of Cunha too much which I suspect is a good indication of it's severity and not wanting to get mixed up with the issue Wolves will face.

A elbow to the back of someone's head, man.... that could have lead to all sorts of serious problems. As Argyle_blue says, our man was super chill in the aftermath. Huge credit to him.

This is assault. if any one of us had carried out this behaviour in our daily lives we would most certainly be arrested and charged.

Just because it is in the world of football doesn't mean it is acceptable.

Sounds like Wolves have further discipline problems, on top of the ones we already knew about.

Let's not forget the elbow to the back of the same ITFC staff member's head before he grabbed his face. "Violent conduct" (Jack Stephens pulling Cucurella's hair) is a straight red and therefore a 3 match ban, so it'll have to be AT LEAST 3 games. Equally Bentancur got 7 games for Tottenham for racial slurs, so I'd reckon this would be somewhere in the middle - 5 game ban, and Wolves warned about future conduct given this is the second game in a row there's been a full time scuffle with them involved.

...on topic of Delap's fifth yellow in the aftermath, I'm ok with him getting a card there and missing the Newcastle game to 'reset' his yellow card counter now rather than pick up a 5th yellow at Chelsea and miss one of the more winnable January games.

Realistically Arsenal away isn't a game we're expecting to get anything out of, so by the same token I'm OK with both Morsy and Omari picking up a 5th yellow in the Newcastle game this Saturday, missing Arsenal, and then being back for Chelsea and beyond, unless they both know they can avoid a card for the next three games.

After the Chelsea game, the 5 yellow ban disappears and it becomes 10 yellows in the first 32 games before a two game ban. So either be really disciplined, or be 'clever' about when you get the fifth card...

I think Terry Butcher was charged by police after a "discussion" he had on the pitch when he played for Rangers, (a Glasgow team, in Scotland)

Has Cunha been immediately suspended? If not yet disciplined as he deserves to be he can surely go out before his ban and make amends by playing well and getting Wolves a draw against Leicester. i think if we get above Leicester we wil stay up.

I've seen links of Cunha to Man U on a couple of those Web sites that we don't take too seriously. If any United deal was to fall through because of his behaviour though, now that would be poetic justice.

Any chance they can just relegate Wolves as punishment? Asking for a friend.

The league should take 10pts each off wolves, southampton and palace and leicester as correct punishment for the behaviour in our tunnel and we should get a by into the FA cup final...a public flogging of all the other teams in this division with a horse whip every friday for 2 years also would be appropiate..
