Liverpool Rebuff Town Doak Bid
Friday, 3rd Jan 2025 19:55

Town are reported to have had a £16 million offer for Scotland international forward Ben Doak turned down by Liverpool.

According to The Athletic, the Reds rebuffed a £15 million bid from Crystal Palace earlier in the day and then similarly declined £16 million from the Blues.

The offers are both said to be well below Liverpool’s valuation of the 19-year-old, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough, where, as it stands, the Anfield club are happy for him to remain for the rest of the season. Despite the knock-back, Town will reportedly maintain their pursuit.

Born in Dairy in North Ayrshire, Doak was a youth player with Ayr United and Celtic and made two senior sub appearances for the Glasgow side before moving on to Liverpool aged 16 in March 2022 for training compensation of £600,000.

Since making that move, Doak, who primarily plays on the right, has made four starts - all in cups - and six sub appearances - three in the Premier League - for the Reds.

In August, he joined Boro on loan and so far has made 17 starts and three sub appearances, scoring twice, for the Championship side managed by Town manager Kieran McKenna’s close friend Michael Carrick.

Doak has won six full Scotland caps in addition to appearances at U16, U17 and U21 levels.

Town are known to be in the market for another forward - ideally right-sided with Chiedozie Ogbene out for a long spell with an achilles injury - and have also shown interest in bringing Aston Villa’s Jaden Philogene, a summer target, to Portman Road.

A lot of money for an unproven young player, but I could have said the same about Liam Delap.

Not great stat's so far for Boro, but obviously very young with loads of potential. If KM fancies him, that's good enough for me.

Delap will be England's new number 9.
Got to be worth a minimum 50 million + shed loads of add ons.

best player for Scotland in recent internationals and Ok they're rubbish but he was making only his 2nd or 3rd start. Pat Nevin was raving

Fail to see how he would improve us massively. I know it seems we have a policy of buying young talent with huge ceilings of potential but surely in this window we need some experience to keep us in the league??? Trust KMc & MA but this would be puzzling seeing as he can’t score any goals in the Championship for Boro.

Mickmillstash- we are pish but Doak is the next upcoming thing.however definitely not the best Scottish player just now. Reckon he would be a great signing for us but would still need a lot of work put into him. We need players now ready to help us climb out of relegation.

People saying not great stats etc just look at delaps stats last season. It means next to nothing. If McKenna wants them then I am 100% behind them and believe in them.

Doak was the best player for Scotland in recent internationals- I don't know who the best Scot is but if its worth thinking about McGinn is 30, Robertson looks as if his legs have gone, Hickey is always injured, McTominay ? the clown who got sent off against Germany for volleying their attacker ? I believe that Paul Lambert once played for Dortmund - could he be in the mix still ?

He sounds very talented and a good buy for the future. The trouble is that if we are to avoid relegation then we need someone who can come in and do a job for us now, not in six months’ time.

Why do people need to mention he is Scottish is that an issue ? We already have a diverse squad so why not a Scot if McKenna thinks he is good enough. unless of course people have an issue with the Scots?

People mention about staying up which is correct, that's what we need but maybe the club are looking at this signing as part of a Plan B! Which is if we stay up great if not have the squad to pizz the championship and come straight back up!!
I love it how the 'always been in our shadow club up the road' try to sign him loan aha hahaha! Now they taken down all posts about it since we come in with the offer! BIG UP THE TOWN! Love it

Who????

Who...really? Apart from being a standout for Boro this season, take a look at his performances for Scotland. £25m might tempt LFC but they may be thinking he is the longer term answer back at Anfield. Great addition if we can get him, but LFC will drag this out if they are even serious about selling. Great ambition by ITFC regardless!

seems very tricky but not very big, therefore how would he fare against the big boys in the premier league. also presumably he would be expected to carry out defensive duties query any good in the air

I would see this as a player for the future and not a short term fix. KM has proved that he and his staff can improve players and increase their value. Whilst the current team is a priority we must also invest in the financial future of the club. What is our squad value now compared with what we actually paid for players? Careful investment is already paying off but to become an establish premier league club will take time. Boom or bust just doesn't work.
