McKenna: No News on Philogene
Sunday, 12th Jan 2025 18:18

Boss Kieran McKenna says there’s no news on the Blues’ stalled move for Aston Villa forward Jaden Philogene.

Town and Villa have agreed a £20 million-plus-add-ons fee for the 22-year-old and the player a four-and-a-half-year deal, with the England U21 international understood to have passed his medical on Thursday.

However, the move is still to be finalised and McKenna said there was nothing new to report after the 3-0 FA Cup victory over Bristol Rovers.

“I still think the same,” McKenna said when asked if the situation had moved on from where it was when he was questioned about it at Friday’s press conference.

“He’s an Aston Villa player, there’s no news, no agreement as far as I know. I’m sure I’ll get updated if anything changes but no updates any different at the moment.”

Despite the lack of movement, we understand the switch is still expected to go through.

Arnie M. So ur assuming this is down to him are you? Could be a number of reasons.. or Mckenna could simply be keeping things close to his chest, until the paperwork can be submitted to the fa tomorow

His wasteman agent will finally have secured enough coin to grant his client permission to sign, only for the kid to find the pen is made of rubber and squirts water, and Ashton is jumping on his chair blowing raspberry’s with a cement mixer pumping the agents Merc’ full of cold custard in the car park

Hopefully this gets wrapped up tomorrow but no surprise some fans getting frustrated when Chesterfield announce on a Sunday the signing of JD but this saga rumbles on.

We blowed far to much time on Philogene and Broja in the summer if not sorted by Tuesday it's time to move on and go elsewhere.

Km has to say this, until both clubs agree that the deal can be announced, he will continue to play a straight bat and say he is a Villa player.
Deals very rarely get announced over a weekend. because you can register the player , it's very straightforward. He will be announced when they are able to do that, which is after the paperwork can be submitted.
Perhaps people should think how thoroughly pi88ed off both Clubs are that our friend Fabrizio announced this days ago, and are making a point to stop him doing it again.
And don't blame the boy, he got pulled about last time because of a buy back clause, people always think the player makes that decision. With a 30% sell on clause we would have had to pay a kings ransom to get him in July

ArnieM totally agree with you town should withdraw the offer, we don’t need a player who’s heart and soul are not in it. Turned us down in the summer and I don’t believe it was all to do with the buy back clause with Villa, this hesitation in him putting pen to paper only goes to prove it.
Obviously doesn’t relish the thought of having to roll his sleeves up and work hard to earn his team place and I think the Villa manager has recognised that and has let him go for a price which in my humble estimation is way over the odds and can’t afford passengers to carry.

Got to move on don’t think he really wants to come here using us as leverage again with agent to intice other clubs to come forward before window closes.

Shouldn’t have to be persuaded to come he’s not playing any football at Villa this season and last season was in championship don’t want players here who ain’t going to be up for the fight

His agent is clearly a massive Bell, one look at his instagram shows he has self interest before the players he represents. Such a shame he’ll get a big pay day if it comes off.

Everyones bored of it, he better be some player after all this.

I’m sure Mr Ashton has it under control. Philogene won’t be the only player he is working on.
If it doesn’t work out then there will be others coming in before February.
It’s not known why the delay so unfair to criticise the player until the facts are known.

Just because it's not been announced yet doesn't mean hes not already signed!

Blues1: I’d assume the player has the final say. The agent works for him, not the other way round.
McKenna took the time to speak to the player last week. He’s supposedly had his medical. Terms were reportedly ironed out in August, even allowing for one or two tweeks to that, the player either wants to join Town, ( he’d agreed to in the summer by all accounts?!), or he doesn’t. His agent is only looking to feather his own nest by presumably touting the player to
Other clubs, so it comes down to what the player wants doesn’t it. If he’s still pondering after a second transfer window approach by us to buy him id suggest he’s not committed to us. Move on!

How strange that a manager cannot be more specific about Philogene.
His words though had a disappointment ring.
But disappointed with who?
It does seem that agents and certain journalists have much more importance in the game
I can find no public announcement being made by Philogene himself
But if he passed a medical and agreed terms surely at least Mark Ashton should advise why there is a delay.

Be good if we could just loan him and see how he fairs but I don't think that will happen, I actually feel for him because it's making him look bad, maybe Villa wanted another buy back and that be defo no no, like Delap if he ours he ours
I dont think he will have any worries fitting straight in having played Greaves and Delap last year and Hutchinson and Delap for England.
I'm sure he is just as desperate to get training and playing.
I'd like see J Clarke get another run on left with Omari on right and Broadhead in 10 with Delap up front and thank god we have Hirst back and hopefully new striker.
This might not be popular but I'd like see Kalvin Phillips keep place in team with Cajuste also and I would defo be happy with Matic despite his age still immense and plays every week, Matic, Phillips and Cajuste in midfield be pretty awesome.
Just think 2nd half season experience will count for everything Kmck knows that.
We need be able shut up shop once in lead I feel but if not be solid but super pace to break which we have.
Townsend showed today he is more than capable of coming on for Davis as he maybe should of v Fulham.
I really like Morsy and he is a legend but in my opinion he isn't better than a Phillips or Cajuste that's all.
Just my opinion

Can’t avoid the feeling that this deal won’t ultimately happen - but sand to have those doubts completely blown out!

Truth is we simply don’t know what stage the deal has reached - or whether a substantive deal actually exists. Speculation rapidly fills the information desert!

However, and as other wise owls have said, MA is not going to be screwed over by any external agents, players or other clubs looking to exploit us.

My impression is that when someone makes a statement on a discussion forum, followers by “end of” it generally means they have offered no evidence or logic to their argument.
