Edmundson Recalled From Boro Loan
Tuesday, 21st Jan 2025 18:28

Town have recalled centre-half George Edmundson from his loan spell at Middlesbrough the clubs still to agree a fee regarding a permanent switch, TWTD understands.

As reported last week, the Blues rejected an offer of £350,000 plus a further £350,000 if the Teessiders are promoted and add-ons last week.

A subsequent bid of £500,000 plus £350,000 if Boro go up and further add-ons has also been rejected and the clubs have been unable to come to an agreement before the recall date in Edmundson’s loan deal.

Boro will not now be able to field the former Rangers man against Tony Mowbray’s West Brom this evening.

The 27-year-old, who is out of contract with Town in the summer, can't move to another club during this window having already played for the Blues and Boro this season.

If the clubs are unable to agree a deal before the window closes, then it seems likely Town would be stuck continuing to pay his wages for the remainder of the season with the one-time Oldham youngster almost certainly left out of the 25-man squad and unavailable for selection, before departing on a free in the summer.

I'd like to keep him if god forbid we are relegated. We'd be forced to sell off some players.

Hmm...are we playing hardball, in an attempt to get Boro to pay up? No one else is likely to come in, given that Edmundson can't play for anyone else this season.

I think the only reason we would recall is that a bid has come in.

9darter. Very likely that some players would go, but we wouldn't be forced to sell anyone.

Do a Edmondson & Burns plus cash for their attacking midfielder and send Doak back so we can have him also.

All about the fee this one. And I disagree about our need to sell players if we go down. The whole point of us signing young players on very long deals was to make sure they would be with us next season regardless. So (Phillips and Canuste aside), we would have no need to sell.
With the news that the lad is coming from Brighton to play up top, I think this is to force Boro's hand. Suggest we need at least to recoup the £1m we paid for Fridge, if they want him enough to make a bid, either pay the price or lose him

Payback for us not getting Latte Lathe?

It could well be that another club has bid for him, hence the recall, for once in many years, we hold the cards, so I guess Ashton is sparking a potential bidding war

I reckon this is preperation for a 9-0-1 formation at Anfield. Waiting to sign Graham Harbey on a free....oh hang on, he is 61!!

No other club has made a bid. He can’t play for anyone else this season other than Boro or ourselves.

For some reason it makes me wonder if Wolfy is going or maybe greaves is injured.

Assume H.Clarke is also off on loan.

I remember something similar happened with Tyreece Simpson at Swindon. That was rumoured to be something to do with contractual legalities of being out on loan in the last six months of a contract. I don't think we ever got to the bottom of it.

A bit confused by this one. I wonder if we’re going to try and negotiate a contract renewal with him and then try to loan/sell him back to Boro or? Not really sure how happy they’d about that…

I guess we’ll find out between now and the end of the window!

I'm disappointed in the club for treating George in this way - for what, an extra 100k. The guy now may lose a half season of games and more importantly the long-term contract Boro were offering him.

I actually hope this bites us, we are stuck with him taking a roster spot, paying his wages and lose him for nothing.
