Town Linked With US International Striker Agyemang
Wednesday, 25th Jun 2025 10:21

Town are reportedly showing interest in US international striker Patrick Agyemang, who is currently with MLS side Charlotte FC.

According to Give Me Sport, the Blues and Derby County are both working on deals to sign the 24-year-old along with Belgian side Genk also said to be keen, Luton Town having made an unsuccessful bid in January.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano had previously reported that the Rams are closing in on a deal, but it’s believed no agreement has yet been reached with either club or player over a move with Charlotte under no pressure to sell.

Hartford-born Agyemang is 6ft 4in tall and has played all his club football in the US, with the Eastern Connecticut Warriors and Rhode Island Rams in the college system, then Western Mass Pioneers, Charlotte and Crown Legacy (loan) in the senior game.

This season, Agyemang, who is currently with the US squad at the Gold Cup, has bagged eight goals and two assists with Charlotte in 1,362 minutes in all competitions.

For the US national team, he has netted five times in nine matches having made his debut in January.

A new number nine is among Town’s priorities this summer with Liam Delap having joined Chelsea earlier this month for £30 million and with the Blues wanting competition for George Hirst.

There seems to be a familiar pattern emerging again thus summer. Linked to strikers, but never seemingly to get it over the line. I hope this isn't going to a repeat of that again. We need a proven striker with physicality. Not easy to find, or cheap and everyone else is after him.

Are goalkeepers not allowed to move in the MLS?

ArnieM. And what other strikers have we been linked with this summer so far. Only the 3rd I can think of, and all just links as,far as I can see. We should all know by now, the waythe club works. We rarely know who we're actually after until a deal gets close to completion. When thd club then release the details.

ArnieM - very strange thing to say about the window at the end of June.

Arnie, what are you on about? We've had great success nearly every transfer window signing strikers. Last Jan was the only one we struggled and basically wasn't required in the end as Delap and Hirst stayed fit.We just sold one for twice the money (and would have been more of not relegated) who we got last summer. In recent windows we have signed Hirst, Moore, Al Hamadi Delap etc as well as 30+ goals in Szmodics. Window only recently opened. My bet is it will follow the normal pattern where we do get a good one!!!

Was it the last window we chased the Middlesbrough striker for what seemed most of it and we don't get him. Much earlier Windows we chased the plymouth forward, Whittiker. He didnt want to come here and ends up at Boro of all places.

I get it's only June, but there is a short break this season before things start again, so not the luxury of 6-8 weeks before a season starts. All I'm saying is, we are linked with strikers but fibt seem to get the senior ones. I appreciate we got Delap and there was co.petituo . But he may as well have bern a season loan because we still font have 3 decent strikers in our striker pool do we. We dont need one striker, we need two to add to Hirst, and pre season starts next week. Its going to be close I think, to get them in and settled.
No big deal, just an observation that's all!

I mean he doesn't fill me with much excitement... but it could be a good squad player if we sign a top st along side this one

The US are playing in the Gold Cup on Sunday. I'll take one for the team and watch the match and offer a full scouting report back. He has a solid record for the national team at the moment and scoring key goals, so he's definitely not a donkey.

What a magician! How on earth did he manage to unpick any of those defences

Yes it is only end of June but training starts next week for some and the week after for the rest.
Despite the usual rhetoric of we will endeavour to get players in early over the past Two seasons it hasn’t happened.
It wasn’t until the end of August last season that the squad was completed which is far from ideal.
As I see it we need a good few players not just One or Two ie a Right sided defender To potentially replace Tuanzebe, a central defender to replace Burgess, at least Two midfielders to replace a Phillips and Cajuste plus a forward to replace Delap. Thats without possibly losing anyone else

Every player we sign should have the potential to be Premier League ready next season otherwise it will be the same story as the last one.

It’s still very early yet and a lot of clubs are holding out till other players move on
Plus some clubs will wait till their pre season and then decide who to let go.

No rush yet and for those that say clubs have made deals and we are losing players….the players they have are not going to keep Town in the Prem

We play better with a striker that can hold the ball up and brings in the 3 behind. Didn’t see any of that unfortunately.

Benefit of the doubt, but we struggled 2nd half of last season as Delap didn’t hold the ball up enough to bring others into play. Hirst is fantastic at this and Moore was pretty decent at it also.

Carberry. Not really. Bcse if we do go ul, im pretty sure we'd sign more players next summer. Andn will be in abetter position to sign better this time round. Doesnt mean I wouldn't like some ti be ready for the pl. But also it likely most of those we signed in tve last 2 windows will be better prepared for tge pl too.

Agree ArnieM & Cakeman.

Far too many happy clapping experts on here who just sit back & say don't panic or just slag off some fans concerns.

It's why we ended up in league one 6 years ago.

ArnieM. You seem to be forgetting the fact that Sczmodics can play as a striker, so technically we need ine more. Tho , yes, agree 2 would be great. We don't however need to get every single signing in before the season starts. The majority, yes, but if it takes until the end of the window for an odd one 1 or 2, dont see there's a massive problem.

Finding a striker - or indeed any player - that is both willing to play for us at this level but also Premier League ready, is nigh on impossible. Herein lies the problem!

I know its just another link at the moment but this could be a interesting one, looks like he has a bit of promise and could be a good backup/rotation to Hirst, done well on the international stage and one that McKenna could really improve too. Cant imagine he would cost a massive amount (currently listed about 4-5 million on transfermarkt)

Not going to lie, I thought this was the other Patrick Agyemang (the 40+ year old) at first the one that used to play for Wimbledon and QPR back in the day, would have been a HUGE step backwards if it was haha

Looked like he was headed to Derby. Maybe Town interest has thrown a spanner in the works. Looks a real handful to me.

The guy's finishing looks ok, but not clear if he is blessed with pace? If he is ahead of Sarjent for USA, that should be a good sign.

Do anyone commenting on lack of signings take into account PSR, which runs from July 1st until June 30th the following year? Which given the amount we spent on players & their wages last season has some effect on our transfer dealings until July 1st this year!

1. Its June.
2. Transfer window runs to Aug for a reason.
3. Deals are often dependent on other deals that allow the feeing of said target.
4. Links are often BS just becaues twitter or the press link us with someone it doesn't mean we are actually after them
5. Its June.
6...... its still June.
7. OMG its june.

Looks like a good finisher on boot legs with a powerful shot on him. I know youtube is´nt a 100 perscent true reflection but looks stronger quicker and a better finisher than Chaplin who was in all honesty well out of his depth in the prem.
