Town Reject Coventry Woolfenden Approach Tuesday, 19th Aug 2025 19:26 Town have rejected a Coventry City approach for central defender Luke Woolfenden.
Journalist Ben Jacobs is reporting that a bid has been turned down, however, we understand the Sky Blues made an approach rather than an offer.
The Blues indicated that they have no intention of allowing the 26-year-old, who signed a new contract which runs to the summer of 2027 with an option for a further year, in January.
A number of other Championship clubs are also understood to be eyeing the Ipswich-born centre-half, Stoke City among them.
Long-term admirers Sheffield United were keen during the winter window, however, their interest is understood to have cooled.
Academy product Woolfenden has been a core member of the squad which climbed from League One to the Championship, however, seems likely to have limited opportunities in the campaign ahead with skipper Dara O’Shea in his right-sided central defensive role.

Jas0999 there's no such thing as permanent additions very rarely players stay at one club all their carriers. If a player signs a long contract and it doesn't work out it becomes a financial burden as we've found out to our cost. Players coming in on one year loans are in essence signing a one year contract that's ideal for player and club if it doesn't work out and the player fails to perform you can send him back to his club.

Looks like he will be having a sore throat this weekend.

getting more money in instead of going deeper into debt is sound business that will pay off as the season progresses.Town clearly are rebuilding the team in order to stay in the Premiership next time and the ONLY player that we had capable of playing at that level last year has not been replaced yet.

I don't think Wolfie is the kind of person to just sit back and accept that he's 3rd or 4th choice CB, he will be working on his game to get better and challenge the others. CB is also a position where injuries and suspensions can suddenly provide opportunities. We need quality cover and he provides that.

Hyperbrit, when we get back in Premiership ! They way things look at moment we will be back in league1 , Last season was always going to be hard and I wasn't shocked that we were relegated,But I did expect a really positive start to trying to return .So far it's been woeful as far as transfers are concerned, we seem to be flapping around like a headless chicken.,we have been. disappointing on the grass too., .

Wolfie has to stay as if town are anywhere other than top 6 in January there will be an exodus. Agree he’s not the quickest but he is a good footballer who reads the game very well. Kipper looks big and strong but certainly no better than Wolfie and behind Greaves. Ashton stay strong and don’t sell all of our half decent players. I can think of some big money flops who could make way

I’ve often thought he could play as a defensive midfielder. He’s decent on the ball, can pick out a pass. Be worth a try as we are short in that area

I a tally suggested he'd be better in midfield 2 seasons ago but absolutely slaughtered on the forum (as usual). Woolfenden is a " footballer", but hes not a central defender and never has been in my view. I'd say hes an average championship player and a very good league one player, and never a PL player.

I was simply stating the wishes of the owners who have never been ambiguous about their desire to both return and stay in the Premiership which will require a total rebuild of the team If the so called fans start projecting a return to League 1 then that is where Town may end up. Why do you think winning home games is so hard? It's the negative thoughts of so many fair weather friends who may as well be enemies in hard times and I include myself in that group.

He’s better than O’Shea and Greaves IMO.
