McAteer Fee and Personal Terms Agreed
Friday, 22nd Aug 2025 09:17

Town have agreed an £11.5 million plus add-ons fee with Leicester City for Irish international winger Kasey McAteer.

Yesterday it emerged that the Blues were targeting the 23-year-old with the clubs quickly tying up a deal.

According to The Athletic, a medical has already taken place and a four-year contract also agreed. An announcement appears likely today and McAteer available for the trip to Preston.

The Blues have been looking for a right-sided attacker to replace Omari Hutchinson, who left to join Nottingham Forest for £37.5 million last weekend.

Northampton-born McAteer joined Leicester aged eight and made his first senior appearance in the Premier League in a 4-0 victory over Newcastle in December 2021.

Having had spells on loan with Forest Green Rovers, with whom he won the 2021/22 League Two title, and AFC Wimbledon, the right-sided forward has gone on to make a total of 27 starts and 29 sub appearances for the Foxes, scoring eight goals, including his side’s second in the 2-0 win against the Blues at the King Power Stadium in May. He was a member of the squad which pipped Town to the 2023/24 Championship title.

McAteer has won six full Republic of Ireland caps, scoring one international goal. He will become the fifth senior Ireland international in the squad alongside skipper Dara O'Shea, Chieo Ogbene, Sammie Szmodics and Jack Taylor.

It's being so cheerful and positive that keeps some people going on here! Anybody would think it's our money they're spending!

Itfc2024 I do agree that it sounds a lot of money. But not knowing enough to judge and thd fs t hes still young, but with championship and pl experience, its nayve not that big a fee. And likely thesort of money you have to pay for players nowadays. End of the day, shouldnt all fans just give the guy a chance, rather than just do what our fans keep doing, and write some1 off before they've even kicked a ball? Over thdcyears I've seen us sign supposed top players whove done nothing, and players fans have criticised the club for signing, be excellent for us. Can't everyone just wait and see? And none of us know whether he was top of the list, or 2, 3 or 4 players down the list. Inly been him and thd Norwegian guy we've been credited with any interest in since Omari left. So must have been high in the list

Ok a player with a decent Championship pedigree who KMc can mould. Coming from Leicester he might have learnt the Vardy magic. Many supporters will be underwhelmed but he is young and can be improved. Leicester won the Premiership with a bunch of unknowns. Give the lad a chance.

ITFC2024: was that the year you started "supporting " us? Your comments suggest so.

Another winger ..McK collects them .How can we be paying Leicester 11m for one of their reserves. We are a desperate laughing stock .Transfer window has been pathetic.Great players out , rubbish in ...Who would prefer Broadhead to this bloke..? Time for mcK and Ashton to go

Completely underwhelming signing...if he's that good why are leicester selling him to a promotion rival? Does not make any sense.

The guy's a full international at a great age. Played his socks off against us, contributes both assists and goals (look at his stats). Sure, it's unfortunate that we couldn't get him for less than we got for Broady, but for me this is a great move. Competition for Ogbene which fulfils McK and clubs desire to have two 'bang on it' players for each role. Burns would provide that, but he's nowhere near to being fit. Let's applaud the club guys - they want us to get a good start to the season. I want that too, and if McAteer can help us do that, I'm all for it.

The few times I've seen him 5-6 he's half decent,
£11.5 yes a lot but championship players have gone sky high the last couple of seasons, he's a town player now, so may as well support him guys,
He's now got a great coach,

The worst thing about this message board are the daily posters who are in uproar if anyone dare criticise McKenna. I'm nit impressed by our transfer business under McKenna and I think it strange we would pay such a large sum to a close rival who are in FFP trouble. His own fans don't rate this lad so why should we be excited ?? Unless your brain is so small you just cheer every single McKenna decision

Wingers are great when you have dynamic midfielders and forwards that can get in on crosses or chip in more than 5 goals a season. We don't have these at the moment so would've thought that would've been the priority. There's still a couple more signings to come that might address that hopefully.

Nice!! lets right the bloke off before he's stepped over the threshold!! People say we have one of the best managers / coaches around, so just maybe just let them do what they do and the just for once the PS or Xbox FIFA managers just keep in your virtual reality!!!

Maybe it's me but I always thought he looks quite decent when i've seen him - certainly at this level - though I would've preferred bringing back Jeremy Sarmiento or giving Broadhead some proper match time & a new contract.

Leicester fans are laughing this morning, can’t believe their luck. Can only assume we are still working on a deal to replace Hutchinson and this is the Broadhead replacement?

This lad is a bench warmer for Leicester. It would seem like a panic buy to me. Underwhelming. To say the least!

Well let’s hope he doesn’t read the fans’ forum… Hopefully he’ll get a better reception from those attending his debut. Welcome and good luck to you Kasey.

Always thought he looked very dangerous whenever we've faced him. Fee sounds high, but that's roughly the profit we made from Omari so that's covered. Also not convinced with Ogbene so this is an upgrade.

Whatever the feelings towards this fella we should embrace him and give him every possible chance to prove he was a good buy. It won't help him or the team if he's not accepted by fans because they have a biased view of him.
