Morsy Training With Wolves
Wednesday, 12th Nov 2025 15:59

Former Town skipper Sam Morsy is reported to be training with Wolves’ U21s squad following his departure from Kuwait SC in September.

Morsy left the Blues on a free transfer to make the lucrative move to the Middle East in July, signing a two-year deal, but left the Kuwait Premier League champions after only two months and three competitive appearances, the last of which saw him sent off after half an hour.

Since then, he has been with an Egypt squad preparing for next month’s Arab Cup and now, according to Talking Wolves, is training with the U21s squad back at his hometown club to keep himself fit.

Morsy, 34, came through the ranks at Molineux, spending nine years in their academy before moving on to Port Vale in 2009 without having made a senior appearance.

The Egypt international is not able to sign for a new club until the January transfer window opens.

He is probably exactly what they need, but we need him too.

I love Morsy, but time to move on. And sign better quality in Jan.

Im sorry, but there is an absolutely zero chance of Sam coming here in January, unless is purely to start his coaching badges. We have 4 better options already. If there is any movement in CMF it will be another attempt to get Hackney, but his form (and Edwards' departure) makes me think he is PL bound in January anyway

Wonder if he has any regrets leaving town?

It will be interesting to see if he ever reveals the events leading to him leaving here on a free, and the circumstances that led to him leaving Kuwait so soon.

He left on a free transfer but if he signed for wolves, surely we should get something out of the deal. Wonder if he left Kumait with 2 yrs pay in the pocket..

I’d love someone to explain to me how any of our current midfield are performing at a higher level than Morsy gave uss, let alone having 4 better options
Morsy picking the ball up from the keeper and being able to carry it out is exactly what we miss.
There’s a reason we are consistently getting caught trying to play out, and it’s a lack of Sam Morsy. I know we’re not going to re-sign him but I find it hugely disrespectful that someone thinks we have “4 better options”. Game of opinions I know, but I couldn’t disagree more.

Id have him as a matasiwa sub replacement and a vocal person in back ground and only a 6 month contract otherwise move on

In the time he was here SM was a great servant and an inspiring captain on and off the pitch. Time moves on, just remember the good times and wish him the best of luck wherever his future may take him.

As a player, I don't think we should go back, although I have huge respect for the man and his ability and service to the club. What we really miss most is his captaincy and I'm sorry to say O'Shea doesn't inspire me in that direction. We need a leader on the pitch but think we need to move forward with that not back. Who out of the current squad would you choose if you had a choice????

Virgin blue, I totally agree. If Morsy was still with us he would be my first name on the team sheet. Yes we have 4 good centre midfielders but none are better or as good as Morsy at looking after the ball and finding those pockets of space and we miss his leadership.

Our best player for years
Id have him back now
When Taylor signed a new deal, I thought we could sell him in Jan & sign super SAM on a free. Wait and see

Im a bit surprised that he's not training with us.....

The Great Sam Moray at 34 years is best left untouched. What Town are dong now is methodical and NOT giving up the ball through overdribbling just outside of the penalty box.

Team is ALL about the talent now and distributing immediately wide to our danger men. Certainly the only question/s remain are when does McAteer start creating a moment or two of brilliance as Sigrid has shown it, yet not connected accurately.

AndySav04, absolutely!
34 years old and we let him leave for free, despite having a year of is deal left, he was clearly not part of our plans
And yes, Nunez, Cajuste, Taylor and Matsuyama all day for me.
Sam did a great job for us, and the SM of 2-3 years ago would compete, but sadly once again sentiment is clouding people's judgement when we should be looking to the future and developing players who have the ability to get better with age not slow down even more
I would love him back as part of the coaching team, but we should be looking to invest again in January and bring in more great potential.

Feel it would be a mistake to take Sam back - both have moved on. To do so I think could really unsettled things.

Get him on the training staff!

virginblue - we got caught out playing from the back when Morsy was here, it's a high risk strategy which any player can get caught out from. We've actually been very good at it this season and have got better with the likes of Walton and Azor connecting very well.

No way Morsy comes back, that's reverting to old culture that the team is building away from. No denying he was a great servant to the club but we are evolving and ultimately will be a better team.

All the moaners on here about our current midfielders not being up to the Morsy standard - remember that it takes time to build the team. When Morsy arrived, he didn't hit the ground running and he was here a while before he became the fantastic player he was for us, with the team around him.

Leadership wise, he was exceptional. But using him as the yardstick to measure others by means you'll likely always be disappointed, captain-material is exceptionally short in supply. O'Shea is doing a reasonable job, it's a responsibility that will grow over time. But it seems many fans on here are unwilling to allow anyone time to develop...

I think we have to be careful with this, yes Morsy gave us a lot of good times, and there is nothing to say that if he did come back to us that wouldnt carry on, but we have to remember he is aging for the role that he plays and i for one dont want to see him tarnish his legacy by not being the player we knew him as.

I personally thought it was the right time to depart to bring in a younger enforcer which is Azor and he is doing very well, there comes a time when it is best before it comes time that they cant do the job any more. This is of course assumption and he may have another 2,3 4 years, whatever it is going to be, but it would be upsetting to see the decline, as i will say i think he struggled with the pace at times last season, as did many to be fair but the slow down i thought was happening.

I want him to retain the great legacy he has for us, i will be forever grateful to him, but i dont think its right to try and re-sign and go back to the past when we are trying to move forward with arguably higher ceiling potential players

In my opinion, Morsy was an excellent captain and a very good player for us.

I’m sure, like many of us, he would like to be able to turn the clock back. However, I suspect he’s the type of person who has his feet firmly planted on the ground, and realises that at 34 years old, it’s time to move on. Not many players play at the top at his age, Ashley Young being one of the very few exceptions.

He wont be coming back as playing staff, and in my opinion thats the right call. Great player as he was its just wrong to expect he would come back as one of the playing staff. Taylor had a great game against swansea motm for me with clarke. The midfield is getting better and more solid. Lets just keep Sam as a good memory.

Anyone considered that Sam and Azor would make a good central unit similar to Sam and Mass.
Those two took us up to the promised land and Sam and Azor could do the same?? Cajuste is a lovely footballer but lacks the contribution Mass brought to the Team, especially covering for Leif!!
I'd bring back Conor too to play alongside a fit again Wes!!
A lot of these new guys are earning a lot of money but I'm not convinced have the same conviction for the cause as some of those sadly departed?

No we haven’t got anyone better than him and more importantly we don’t have any Leadership on the pitch. He was a Captain and knew his job.
