Town 'Monitoring Bamford Situation'
Tuesday, 6th Jan 2026 15:12

Town are reported to be keeping an eye on Patrick Bamford’s situation at Sheffield United.

The striker signed a short-term deal at Bramall Lane in November having left Leeds at the end of last season.

The 32-year-old has scored five goals in six starts and four sub appearances for the Blades and manager Chris Wilder is unsurprisingly keen to keep the once-capped former England international beyond the end of his contract, which is up on January 11th.

According to Alan Nixon, the Blues are monitoring the situation, while it’s believed other Championship clubs are also keeping an eye on developments.

Speaking last week, Wilder said the Blades were expecting Bamford to commit to staying in South Yorkshire.

“We're confident that we can do something,” he told the Sheffield Star. “The feedback we've got from Pat is really positive. He knows, as I’ve said before, what we think of him.

“I'm sure he’s enjoying his football, enjoying playing for the football club and pulling on that shirt.

“And I'm pushing as much as I can. But obviously there's a negotiation involved in it. And there will be an attraction from other clubs because of what he's done. So that was the gamble of bringing him in.

“He wanted to sign a short-term deal as well. So it’s not that we didn’t give him a longer-term deal. That’s the road that he wanted to go down. He’s backed himself, which is good. And we’ve backed ourselves in terms of a club and what we can give him.

“So it’s pretty much a balancing act, what we've given Pat and what he's given us. I think we're a good fit for him and he's a good fit for us. So hopefully, yes, we can get that over the line in mid-January.”

I spent last season banging on about Lawrence Shanklin of Hearts.

I've not changed my mind.

Our re ruitment has been mostly awful in the mckenna era and Bamford will be more of the same. Even the dumbest of supporters who blindly cheer every Mckenna move must realise we need much much better than Bamfotd

Arnie, you're opinion was valid. The reason I downvoted you is that you were looking for an argument, goading Chepstow. You mention bullying, look in the mirror!

TimmyH not one for the future i agree but how many of our current squad are? Promotion is very possible and we need more goals to acheive that. Not sure why so many mention hes 32, hes not past it and better than what we have currently.

Cant believe some of the comments on here, truth is we dont know who the club are trying to recruit, Barmford might be 4 or 5th choice, we dont know!

Bottom line is the whole world are looking for a proven number 9, dont think we would get him but if he comes here i am sure he will do a job!

I thought we should have signed him as a free agent before he went to Sheffield U.
We need someone who understands the Championship, and like him or not, he’s scored plenty at this level. Makes me laugh that people think we should just be able to find a striker, because life is that easy. I’d also be well happy with taking a punt on Callum Wilson despite his injury record, but I’d guess if he’s gonna drop down to the Championship then he’s most likely to go to Coventry.

Are you ok Arnie? Why is down voting bullying?
You yourself have said that everyone is entitled to their opinion but suddenly if people disagree with your opinion they’re bullying you??
If you think down voting is bullying I assume you never do it yourself?

Why so many negative comments again? Some just can't wait to jump in with their negative comments. A top quality proven striker is a huge investment and would be unwise before we secure promotion. A short term cover is what we need good enough to support our current squad over the remainder of the season. I'm pretty sure ITFC have irons in the fire for the summer IF and when promotion is achieved. MA runs our club well and it not going to take any financial risks based on a 'possible' promotion. Maybe a loan as with Kieffer Moore before or a short term deal but we must trust KM and MA.
Most of us have noticed how KM has built a more solid style with some fast break football. Some of our best football has been when teams attack us and dominate possession. This I'm sure is preparing us for the premier league as we were far too open on our last visit and got punished. We must be patient and allow the process to develop and if we go back up, hopefully this season, we will be ready to consolidate our place in the topflight.

We are the divisions 2nd top scorers without a prolific striker imagine if we had a paul mariner type...

Bamford is a big upgrade on what we currently have and his holdup play would suit our playing style. This would probably be enough to push us nearer our goal and a deal would make good sense.

George Burley bought Marcus Stewart who got us promoted and held his own in the PL each season thereafter. I expect we are trying to identify similar targets but Bamford isn't a long term solution for me. I'd like to see us linked with a South American option, strikers from this region often have grit and ideal physicality required for the English top tiers. I think Town fans would struggle to get behind Bamford at first but a tenacious Argy, Chilean or Brazilian, would really light us up.

JPR77, couldn't argue with that post, and I'd say not just strikers. Some have not had an easy upbringing, they are tough, streetwise and know how to look after themselves. I have a lot of time for people like that. I never doubted for one second that the fuss around the MN transfer would have any effect on him, indeed he rather played to the gallery! Maybe he has a bit of inside line on a few of them!

It's a shame KmK will not alter his formation as Azon would work well off a main striker for me. If Hirst isn't fit then we have no one like Delap to hold up the ball well. Dunno if Bamford or Wilson are the answer as both are sick notes.
