Colchester Target Barbrook
Wednesday, 28th Jan 2026 15:31

League Two Colchester United are targeting Blues midfielder Fin Barbrook ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

Barbrook returned to Town earlier in the month having spent the first half of the season on loan at Lincoln but without featuring in League One for the Imps.

According to the Colchester Gazette, the clubs are in talks regarding the 20-year-old moving to the JobServe Community Stadium for the remainder of the campaign.

Southwold-born Barbrook made his senior Town debut in the Carabao Cup tie at Bromley earlier in the season and was on the bench for the FA Cup victory over Blackpool.

Meanwhile, academy defender Lenny O’Sullivan joined Isthmian League Premier Canvey Island on loan at the weekend.

The 18-year-old made his debut in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Whitehawk but suffered an injury which forced him off just before half-time.

A loan is okay. But that's all.

I know he's been getting games back in the U-21s, but I hope he gets some league appearances for his development. The Bromley cup match seems a long time ago for Fin, and indeed for our first team.

Would be a great move for him.

Hmm, mixed feelings about this. Currently w only have Fin and Elkan who are academy graduates, and I believe we have to have one are in our 20 man party. That would mean Elkan can't get out on loan or be sold, which is probably a higher priority.
I would like to see Fin stay here and be an integral part of the first team squad. That would give him invaluable exposure and allow him to continue with the U21s.
Elkan isnt going to make it here, I think Fin might....

Bazza is right regarding Elkan and Fin.
Elkan is not going to make the first team,he is 23 now and it's time for him to move on for his own good and find a team where he will actually get games.
Fin on the other hand is a very promising lad, I fully expect him to break into the fist team in the near future.

Its not a problem. Based on an article in EADT

Kieran McKenna would still be able to name a full nine-man bench thanks to Regulation 34.12 in the EFL rule book. It's written in full below, but, in short, Ipswich get given grace by the fact they've sold at least two academy graduates that are currently employed by Premier League/Championship clubs (and are still aged 24 or younger).

Tawanda Chirewa (Wolves, 22), Silva Mexes (Man United, 15) and Calum Logan (Tottenham, 19, currently on loan at Braintree) all fulfil the below criteria for rule 34.12 .

Paris, thank-you! I was unaware of that nuance, and that proves old s*ds like me can learn something new every day

Whatever happens with FB or EB, they both need to be playing. Kicking their heels at this stage of their development is far from ideal. I hope something works out for both of them.

Fin looked decent at Bromley. Hope he gets his loan move and gets some game time for Col U. It should benefit the club and the player

I think this is a move that would suit Barbrook down to the ground. He’ll certainly get more game time at Colchester.
