McKenna: Sindre's Goals Have All Been Pivotal
Monday, 9th Mar 2026 14:22

Blues manager Kieran McKenna says his two recent goals have been a big positive for summer signing Sindre Walle Egeli.

The 19-year-old Norwegian became the most expensive player ever signed by a Championship club when he joined the Blues for an initial £17.5 million just ahead of the transfer window closing in the summer.

Since then, the former FC Nordsjaelland forward has made 18 starts and eight sub appearances, scoring four goals in total.

Having gone 10 games without finding the net, Walle Egeli has bagged two in his last three matches, in the 2-0 win at Watford and then the equaliser against Leicester at the weekend.

“It’s been a big positive for him,” McKenna said. “I think when you look at his goals, they’ve all been pretty big or crucial goals.

“The first goal at home to Coventry, a massive goal, sets us on the way to the points, Blackburn he gets us a point.

“He’s scored four goals and they have all been pivotal goals, so I think, and I’ve said it lots, there are very, very few 19-year-olds playing regular minutes in this division, so it’s a fantastic experience for him to be doing it.

“He’s brought us some really good things. Of course, it’s going to be up and down over the course of the season with a player so young coming to England for the first time, but I know he’ll be so much stronger for the season that he’s had.

“We believe he’ll have some more big moments before the end of the season and I think he’s brought us some good things, and it’s been a great experience in his development that will stand him in good stead.”

Not sure why we signed him he’s been off par. Signed was based on potential so not sure not why we made the move for him £17m!

Agree his goals have been pivotal but have to say found his form a tad underwhelming for a player of such cost...I won't knock him too much as he's relatively young and still learning, just wish he was a bit quicker in all aspects

He's NINETEEN.

His positivity after the goal was significant, getting outside regularly and with real purpose. Let's face it, he's just a kid, no offence, we need to encourage and nurture his talent. He hasn't possibly even finished growing at 19 and could yet be a 9, and the next Harland :)

After his goal he was quality. This is the walle I want most games . I have been a big critic of his but he was quality when he came on . Think hes best used off bench imo at this stage

Let's give the lad the rest of this season to get fully acclimatised, and judge him on what he produces from the start of the next one. Just moving to another country alone aged 19 is a big enough deal, without the heavy expectation that comes from many because of the price tag, which is nothing to do with him of course. If he can chip in with another 2/3 goals by the end of the season, I think he will have done pretty much what could be expected of him this season considering all circumstances.

Dante was 90% correct, but there is in fact a tenth layer of Hell, beneath Cocytus, the frozen lake of treachery containing Satan himself at its centre. What lies beneath is reserved for people who call themselves Ipswich fans yet have the compulsive need to criticise Sindre Walle Egeli. Enjoy eternity you guys.

When Ipswich carried Smzodics over from last, added AKPOM
There was an overwhelming sense that we had a divine right in the Championship.

Nothing production from these players as infact we signed them for goals.
Meanwhile Sindre Wallet found himself missing after miss early on, then
successfully adjusted his shooting to climb up to 4/5 goals.

Between the transfer price of one of the former and the wages
Of these two compared to Sindre... He is a SUCCESS story and the foundation of
Ipswich on the Right Flank.

I think in time he could play as a number 9.
