Southampton Date Set
Wednesday, 11th Mar 2026 16:01

Town’s game against Southampton at St Mary’s has been rearranged for Tuesday 28th April (KO 7.45pm).

The match was originally scheduled to be played on Good Friday but has had to move due to the Saints being in FA Cup quarter-final action that weekend.

The date, which is in the midweek prior to the final game of the season at home to QPR on Saturday 2nd May, was realistically the only gap in which the fixture could be played.

Let's hope we're not back there again a week or so later!

Actually could be!
Could also be a dead rubber game.

Our away form will need to improve before we go there. It’s been generally poor. Can’t even beat a Stoke reserve side! Much for KM to do.

So, we only get a point at Stoke and Middlesbrough lose at home to lowly Charlton. What does that say about the Championship ? Anyone can beat anyone and there’s still plenty to play for. We just need to turn up at the Owls and win with conviction.

It says the Championship this season is poor...also would add managerial nous can get your side results even if the squad is relatively thin or has less quality - Charlton have stuffed both us and Boro up at home!

Bert, it says what it has said since quite early in the season, the Championship has always been a bit of a dog fight, but this season a sub standard set of teams has added to the mix. To which I think we can honestly add, ourselves!

I think it probably says Middlesbrough had a bad night, unfortunately we have them all too often I’m afraid. There can’t be any excuses for our performance against Stoke reserves truly shocking first half

Boro have left the door slightly ajar lets see if we can take advantage of that, People seem to get excited about having games in hand, but they are meaningless unless you win them .

Looking at our run in we have a lot of very key games (obviously every game is key at this stage of the season but....), with our current inconsistent performances I honestly can't see us winning more than 50% and it's the playoffs for us. If I think back a few seasons ago, that would be some massive achievement to be in them again. Can't help but feel it's a bitter disappointment though (to be only top 6) and may be that's the problem... Our expectations are just too high and we need a good dose of perspective. Promotion just means getting beaten almost every week and the championship is exciting... When we don't be promoted this season, we need to ensure we swallow the bile down and don't start throwing our toys out the pram...

Yes Boro have left the door ajar but can we push through. We have so many extremely tough games to play and I include the home games against Millwall and Boro in that. Away games at Southampton and Norwich are also really hard games. We don’t know which team is turning up this season but I’m hoping it’s the team that played away at Coventry. This league is a tough league but the standard this season is not as strong as when we were promoted last time out in my opinion

We have actually made ground on 'Boro, we still have to play them.
I see a Sarmiento type outcome to Soton game, with coming from behind to win foe the first time in 2 years

Whoever gets a run together at the end of the season, generally go up, as we know all too well having finished 3rd for many seasons in the 90s.

This'll get me some stick, but Norwich are playing very well of late and we should all pray, we don't face them in the playoffs!!!!

Now would be a great time for the team to gel Kieran.

Boro losing means, to quote the Neil Prentice book about George Burley, there is still All to play for.
It is now fully back in our hands.
Critical will be the game in hand to Pompy and home games with Boro and Milwall.
Win those, then there is a good chance we will be in the top 2 so long as we continue to pick up wins / draws the rest of the way.
