 | News Comment | Town Confirm Signing of City's Slicker at 22:00:31
The reality is that we haven't produced a first choice keeper since the days of Price/Supple - 18 years ago. What have our goalkeeping coaches been doing ? |
 | News Comment | U18s Coach Darlow Leaves Town at 21:20:48
No criticism of Sam, but our academy is long in need of a revamp. We were hardly bringing through players for L1, never any that went on to be sold for millions. The last time we produce a keep was nearly 20 years ago with Supple and Price. If the new people are serious, then we need to be Cat 1. |
 | News Comment | Luongo Signing Confirmed at 22:16:47
Very injury prone in 3 seasons at Weds, then half a season at Boro where he did not play - not even as a sub. I suspect that is why there is only a 6 month contract given. And why no other club has come in with a longer contract. |
 | News Comment | Colchester Owner Cowling Hits Out at Mindless Thugs at 23:33:38
Some utter nonsense being spouted on here by some. "There's not allowed to be Discipline in Schools anymore. There is, What yiu mean is boys are no longer thrashed. Well that did a fat lot of good in the way of stopping hooliganism in the 70's. What you see now is no more than temper tantrums in pre school. There were massive street brawls, and only terraces. No seats to smash. But the toilets as they were then were routinely smashed. It should not be too difficuklt to identify the idiot(s) who through the flare on the pitch. Assuming plod bothered to film the away fans. Up the ban to ten years, as well as for attempting to take pyrotencnics into any stadium. It is an offence to attempt to enter a stadium whilst drunk. Random breathalysing of 'likely suspects' would go quite a way to dealing with what seemed to be schoolkids. Employ enough plod/stewards etc for a search of pretty much every one entering the stadium. A flare is not easy to hide. Pi ssed up kids have little sense, and will continue to cause trouble until effective sanctions are enforced. Spouting idiotic Daily Mail guff about schools adds nothing to the debate. Hit them hard in games like this, a proactive response is needed, not re-active after the damage has been done. And Colchester should put a surcharge on home tickets to pay for the damage. Cretins who cause this, will soon be isolated. |
 | News Comment | MacAnthony: Ashton's Not Going to Be Offering Stupid Wages at 15:42:36
the difference is estate agent are just worthless parasites, for the gullible. You can sell your house without them. Irrespective of the time a footballer may or may not have, they are not well versed in contract law. While you would expect to use a solicitor to draw up a relatively simple contract for a house sale (£200,000), yet some expect a player to draft and sign a more complex contract worth £3m and upward. Much of agents work is 'tapping up' players, then the club - leaving the buying club with clean hands if it doesn't work out, or the selling club complains 'nuffin to do wiv us, guv' states the buying club CEO. |
 | News Comment | MacAnthony: Ashton's Not Going to Be Offering Stupid Wages at 14:19:26
Contracts involve an awful lot of legal stuff, more so now given all the implications......bonuses, image rights, sackable offences etc. An agent will certainly negotiate a far higher fee than ever a player on his own would. So ultimately is the CLUB paying the agent. Agents usually act as a third party, so as to avoid accusations of 'tapping up'. |
 | News Comment | Portman Road to Go Cashless at 14:38:02
You just knew thus would bring out the 'not too bright'. The reason for slow sewer vice is not enough staff. I have no wish to hand over my purchase history for the day to anyone. If you do, that's your choice, do not force it onto others. My brother-in-law walks as a joiner - pretty much as his work is cash, expected by the clients. 'Cards are for the little folk' he was told last year. |
 | News Comment | West Ham and Arsenal Eyeing Chirewa at 22:46:17
The blunt reality is that the scum either have a better youth set up, or are just lucky. Six players sold for £10m plus, with two at £25m and one £35m. Meaning they have taken them to where they can move up another level, at a decent fee. We have not produced a first team keeper for 17 years, and how many are breaking through into the first team, at L1 level. I really hope this lad stays, and sees us as the place to develop - however whether he does is out of our hands. PL clubs not only have the money but training set ups way beyond us. Take a look at what Crystal Palace have been doing. |
 | News Comment | West Ham and Arsenal Eyeing Chirewa at 15:58:30
We will have little say in it - money talks. And the wages offered by PL clubs will always be far better. Remember Liam Gibbs. Nicked from us by the scum for half a million (?), and already on their Ist team bench. |
 | News Comment | Cook: From a Winning Position We Found a Way to Give It Up at 16:14:28
Maybe, the squad is not this claimed multi million pound all stars that we were led to believe was being put together - and some still think it is. Maybe they are no more than Cooks mates (as with the coaching staff) on a nice little earner. A sort of Delboys Jolly boys outing. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 1-2 West Ham U21s - Match Report at 22:31:53
" Eddie Howe for me! Please don't say he won't come here. He's not earning a living right now " actually he is - if a manager has his contract paid up that means any job he takes within that period he forfeits his previous contract pay that's why so many do not rush straight into another job |
 | News Comment | Town Closing in On Jacobs Signing at 11:52:33
"of which nearly have have been at championship level" Not correct - he has played around 50 more in L1/L2, with only 22,32 and 20 games in the past 3 seasons 30 in November, hardly one for the future |
 | News Comment | Ashton: Geographically We Can Go into Areas That Might Be Green and Yellow Right Now at 18:58:27
If PL 'funding' supposedly guarantees you a place in the PL then explain why Blackburn, Bolton, Fulham, Sunderland, Wigan, Cardiff, Hull, West Brom, Swansea, Bournemouth.... are not still in the PL. As to what they have won in the past 10 years, then three league titles, one FA Youth Cup and a Play off trophy for what it's worth - more than we have won in the past forty years. Nothing wrong with being positive Arnie, but delusion is a dangerous path to follow. There are clubs of our size Forest, Derby, Wednesday, Birmingham, Stoke who have not been able to get back into the PL, some for decades. The idea that a dozen, mostly L1 players are suddenly going to propel us to the PL is fanciful, at best. Evans crippled our club, and it will be a long, long haul back to where we were before he took over. Let's get there, then talk of what we might do. 'Mind the gap' should have taught us pride comes before a fall. |
 | News Comment | Sheepshanks: We Need a Beating Heart Again, and I Think We’ve Got One at 13:25:50
"It was the collapse of ITV Digital that ripped our financial model to bits. " ABSOLUTE NONSENSE ! Ans a lie which should no go unchallenged. ITV Digital cost clubs around £2m in lost income. We defaulted on £4.7m to HMRC alone, amongst millions elsewhere. We had run up around £8m in debt getting into the PL. Sheepshanks borrowed £25m to clear that and build/redevelop two stands. It was a reckless act, being based on a belief that we would remain in the PL for the following 25 years. |
 | News Comment | Town in Talks to Sign Chaplin at 21:00:12
Not sure how all this is panning out. The thougt was we were upgrading the 'scouting network' whereas all we seem to be doing is signing Cook's 'old boys'. Money on a top coach - nope, one of his former kitmen can do the job. Local paper has "But he has scored just six goals in his last 50 appearances, including four in 39 last season in which he was used increasingly sparingly under Valerien Ismael who left him on the bench in both legs of the play-off loss to Swansea City. " hmmm |
