All over bar the shouting. Enjoy your day, and don't forget to hammer that final nail in the 'uddersfield coffin.

It has been a remarkable season for you. Thoroughly deserved. I am loving the Mighty Whites and Martins Smarmy Army battling it out in the Play-Offs too.

The apology?

Well tomorrow I am also very much hoping Norwich do the business because I have a horrible feeling we may need them to. It's purely temporary. They did at least give us the goal difference that gives us hope when they visited. I hope you can forgive such self interest.

With any luck it will be while before you get troubled by us again....but I hope we hold on and who knows...I mean......Luton Town!!!!!!!!!!!!

And before you ask about Whittaker...two goals in fourteen. Nothing to see here :)

Look forward to you being runners up again next year :)

Your friendly green

Leeds managed to make a draw look a good result

Plus saints are still to play the other two

Just don’t be on the beach for Huddersfield just in case.

Fingers crossed for you now

The Plymouth v Ipswich 60/1 game which is a single sheet played at Torquay goes for anywhere between £75 and £110.

The green uns will also go for a bit

I have a contact that will buy any that feature press reports of derek Dougan

Football programme forum is also worth a look

Sporting Gold or David Stacey will give you a good idea what they would go for at auction

And that’s why after a couple of seasons I still come and read opinions on here. Because by and large most are fair minded reasonable and knowledgeable.

Most sites have a core of decent fans who can take a joke. Know they are unnaturally biased and that their teams “hard man” is the oppositions “cowardly thug” that every team in the league gets biased refs but only against them etc etc

So I smile when someone says after reading an opposition site they have changed their opinion and now hope they smash us three nil. Because before what they really hoped for was a narrow one nil. Nope. Didn’t think so.

Every site has nutters. Agents provocateurs and wind up merchants.

So I appreciate it when people say they enjoy the write ups. Especially as the poster before this who didn’t is right. They are unashamedly written for the Argyle fraternity. There is an archive if you want to see how I abused the budgies I am an equal opportunities offender.

Or try to be.

I am here as your guest. So I try to at least treat my hosts as I would like to be treated by them. By and large that’s fine here. And most other sites. I also came on here when we had a young fan suffering from cancer who sadly died and your fans response was terrific. As were Wednesday Oxford and several other sites I frequent. Because deep down it’s just football.

I enjoy watching your lot. Except for twice a season or on the rare occasions we are chasing the same end. I expect your fans are the same

So I hope we have a crushing win tomorrow. I fear you could. But I’ll still pop back and share opinions and be pleased for you I’d you get promoted because I love the way you play football.

Still think you stiffed us for Mariner though.

Safe travels

So it probably isn’t that surprising to at we are discussing your better players just before we play you.

Also that our memories of them are mainly coloured by the games we played against you

Or that we are biased towards our side as you are to yours.

I hear you want Morgs if you go up.

I think they all three were red.

But it’s just history now. Some people get over vexed about things you cannot change.

So this is a catchall reply to the various points raised

There is no rivalry between the clubs, or at least no lasting one....we've moved on to Stoke, but before Ipswich it was whycome (my tm), Luton and a friendly one with QPR...eg when we have a shot at something good then we as every club does , become more interested in what's happening ng to the club around us.

I do recall last season a fair buit of banter over testing Whittaker when the Swans recalled him too, but its all fair. But come on , silver polish called Towntalk....how could I resist!

Our rivalry is Exeter, but they are normally below us, yours is Norwich and you finally caught them back up :) We are more vexed about them playing we'll meet again the time we r==went to the basement ....although it was quite funny in retrospect.

Morsy. It's the Randell tackle. Although the Evans one was worse in that game. He is snide..I watched him trip a Rotherham player off the ball kind of because he could on TV. But like I say, would I be happy to see him in green...absolutely. We loved Matete on loan but he was a walking red card. And if you want a true psycho who would hurt people then read Andy Morrisons auto biography.

The Chaplin dive thing was his attempt to block when Mumba scored. He isn't any worse than any other forward and he's a clever player. Hope he is on the bench for you tomorrow.

I'll be rooting for you to go up after tomorrow. I would rather anyone who isn't being paid for failing .

Cheers

Hello again

So I am still cranking out the previews for Argyle games.

The link takes you to the one for Saturday, and it doesn't once use the M word :) and I don't mean Mariner.

Not saying it doesn't make any reference, but your poster who said in another thread that Morsy is the kind of player you love in your team and hate in the oppositions is bang on....

So will it be five in a. row for Town or three in a home row against them for Argyle.

Recent history says it should be a great game either way....safe travels to those coming down.

All the best after tomorrow. I think Leicester are gone despite their wobbles but there is nothing better than the sound of "Leeds are falling apart again" in then play-offs. And to be honest after doing four of these preview for Town I need some fresh subjects!

Paul Cook back to the Championship?
at 19:30 20 Dec 2023

No chance I would have thought

Hallett believes the value is in young coaches who can work with a data driven recruitment team

So far we have traded two promotion winning coaches for a profit of just over a million. Less whatever we have to pay for who we do appoint.

I quite like Cook as a person but he is about as far from the picture of who we might appoint as y oh can imagine.

Same reason that Moany Tony is not a likely candidate despite having a fair few admirers.

There will be a list of potential candidates. It’s a much better gig now and whoever we do appoint will be allowed to make mistakes.

Timing is crap but that’s the January window for you. I understand the motivation for the move and I think given this was the third time already this season he had been interested in the other club approach or possibility after swans and Bristol I suspect the bird decided to milk the compo and get on with something that was going to happen anyway.

Saw a post you might be in for stansfield on the Birmingham site. Smart if true He’d be a good fit for you.

Take three clubs......(not a golf thread)
at 16:17 1 Nov 2023

Thanks for the various replies...interesting seeing the various viewpoints laid out.

I kind of agree with the comparison to Argyle v Town...geography is an issue in the Uk in a way it isn't in the USA....plus we a re being run in Avery steady and cautious way....we hit our promotion one year early against the plan...

We have had the first loosening of the shareholding's although as I mentioned the sudden availability of Leeds meant some of the punters dropped out and sold back to Simon to go down that route. SH has a pretty tight reign on the ownership side so his stewardship is well regarded as are the CEO and the DOF behind Schumacher.

There is no doubt we are fishing in adjacent pools rather than the same ones for players....or at east we are currently.... but recruitment to date has been pretty good....Gibson on a free was a bargain and I think will make a healthy profit. Cooper will be gone in the next twelve months but we have his replacement already in situ....

Was also interested in the porosity development side of one answer. Argyle a re doing some of that with Brickfields new academy base in conjunction with Council/Rugby club and buying up bits of land around the ground but being in a Council owned park limits that.

In time I think a new stadium may be required to fully realise the potential of the club financially.....the traditionalists will complain but we already have fan issues with the new seating in the Grandstand so I think it is inevitable.

The risk for us is always our average position league is a Division lower....so a 30/40 K stadium is currently not a likelihood.

Much appreciated

Take three clubs......(not a golf thread)

Bear with me as to why an Argyle fan would post this on here

Ipswich...US VC owned , highish budget, well regarded and clearly excellent coach, regular 25K+ crowds and riding deservedly high in the table, strong squad, score goals and win regularly

Argyle....single fan owned ( with minority outside investors...some of which jumped ship when Leeds were available), wealthy but not super-rich, on a course to break even, so lowest budget in the league for wages , investment channeled at player /facility development, excellent coach, as close to the play-offs as to relegation. 16K crowds due to ground capacity but looking at ways to increase. Score goals but lose more than they win

Wednesday Single owner, ground mortgaged, new ( 3rd) coach of the season, unproven at club level , late paying HMRC, players not paid/paid late (tbc), 20k+ crowds, rock bottom but just had first win. Struggle to score.

In each case my question to the owners would be ...why?

Obviously I am familiar with Simon Hallet at Argyle. he is a fan, he wanted to build a community asset, he has always said he cannot fund an EPL club and would seek outside investment, but that he wanted to build a sustainable Championship club....so far he has delivered all he has promised and whilst not a ceiling a such, we would as a club be content to retain Championship status and gain access to the improved revenue streams that come with it.

Gamechanger intrigue me. They are an investment fund so presumably they want to turn a profit on every investment ( but recognise some won't.) How do they do that from Ipswich....it either has to be from revenues increasing because of promotion, but unless you invest heavily on going up, assuming you do, that means it is a one year Blackpool style promotion....or player sales ( Argyle have already signalled that as they bought Whittaker and Mumba through an internal player fund...so effectively a percentage of any sales fees gets reinvested and the rest becomes the fund profit....)

So is there an exit plan for Gamechanger....or are they going to buck the trend and be a successful and profitable EPL club?

Wednesday are the one I would be worried to support. High budget, low achievement ( in that they have merely returned to where they were but are struggling to stay there so far), no apparent long term strategy ( unless you count lifetime season tickets). Ageing squad ( something that is also applicable to sections of the Town squad but clearly being addressed in a window by window basis). Owner & fans disconnected completely, on the slippery slope financially of antagonising HMRC? If you want to buy Wednesday and someone might, you would wait for the disaster to strike and drive the price down...ground is an issue but not insurmountable.

So three clubs that shared a promotion, three models of ownership, three currently very different trajectories.

I'd be interested to get a Blues perspective on my take on your owners.....and how that pans out if you get promoted....or if you don't.

Shame we scored three at PR and still lost....my concern for us is we need to improve the defensive side of the squad...we have several injuries and it looks like whilst Gibson is a find we need some more nous at the back and some steel in the middle...but gut feel is we will be Ok this season and will build again....

Good luck against Fulham....

I notice Plymouth are off on one again
at 09:57 28 Oct 2023

Greetings Again

So as my tongue in cheek match preview has been quoted in this thread I thought I should try and clarify

I read the “Plymouth fans are off on one again” with some surprise. I even wandered around Pasoti which to be frank is the only serious Argyle fan site and found little to no evidence of that. Even my article One Game at a Time has more Compliments than digs. And that’s written for humourous purposes

There is no rivalry between our clubs other than those occasional periods like last season. Some Argyle fans were miffed that we seemed to get less than our fair share of recognition because of your frankly incredible form. So yes when the Times publishes an article which calls you last seasons league one champions we notice

The whole awards thing was a non story for us. I hadn’t realised it was I. The news again until I read it in this thread. It is nowhere on Pasoti.

So honestly for us it is Paul Mariner, a great race last season and yes we can mention we won it but if the season had been ten games longer we would have probably come second. The reality was that both sides were as good as they were because they had to be because of each other

As for ceilings we know financially we have an aim to be a sustainable Championship club but a ceiling? We look at Bournemouth and Brentford and think why not. Not this season probably.

Anyway. I want us to finish as high as possible and win as many as possible. I would love us to have had the start you guys have had and I would love us to score as many as you do at home and thrown grind out a few one nils away. Maybe even today. Or not.

Btw. I posted the link to OGAAT on here last season and this. And had some great conversations with Town fans who were amongst then most supportive when I also posted about a young Argyle fan who sadly lost his fight against a brain tumour. So there are bigger things we share then a few gags about Morsy whose positive attributes we admire and envy but who treads a thin line on his discipline and our no doubt temporary greater need for silver polish.

All the best. Apart from later.

One Game at a Time :You're Only here for the Pasties
at 14:16 27 Oct 2023

Hello, hello

It has been a while but it would be rude not to pop back and congratulate you on a really splendid start to the season....

Ours has been a curates egg, the better we play the less well the results seem to go...our second and third ( and probably fourth) best wins came from not very convincing performances. Our best away performances all ended in defeats....

And then there was Norwich :)

So other than the Brizzle disaster ( and that was a massively changed side which is not likely to be relevant to tomorrow) our away form is pretty tight and we could just as easily be on eighteen points.

Still ifs buts and maybes don't win league title ( don't have to tell you guys that) and I think we will be fine with staying up and investing the new TV money next season.

As some of you may remember I write a review/preview piece on Pasoti called One Game at a Time. This season is season 2 so we have gone all Netflix and so it is OGAAT You're Only here for the Pasties.

It is obviously written from an Argyle perspective, and all in good sport (honest).....but if you want to read up on the Curse of the Cats this Halloween weekend, and which Ipswich player is most likely to be wearing a Ghostface mask then here's the link.

https://pasoti.co.uk/threads/one-game-at-a-time-runners-up-a-october-28th.125503

Enjoy the Mariner Derby ( hopefully not too much) and we will no doubt speak after the weekend.

Cheers
