Dyer Back Among Friends
Dyer Back Among Friends
Monday, 14th Mar 2011 14:33

Loan signing Kieron Dyer says he feels back amongst friends after rejoining the Blues after 12 years away from Town. Dyer, who is due to remain with the club where he started his career for a month, was paraded at a Portman Road press conference this lunchtime.

Dyer said: “I feel like I’m back among friends, I know most of the faces here, I know most of the faces at the club and at the training ground, and it was very easy to come back and fit straight back in.”

The 32-year-old was feeling the effects of Saturday’s game at Leeds having not started a match since mid-December but says he’ll get better as he plays more games: “I’m very stiff as I’d only been training a week prior to that. Mentally as well, it was quite draining how the move came about so quickly.

“I’ve got 70 minutes in the bank now and over the next three games I’ll start to get fitter and you’ll see the real me out there.”

That may mean the midfielder starts Tuesday’s game against Watford amongst the subs: “Me and the manager aren’t stupid. I’m coming in early tomorrow and I’ll see how I feel, but I’ll definitely feature whether I’ll be starting or coming off the bench. We’re not going to kill ourselves.

“With the lack of games I’ve played, it would be foolish of me to try and play three 90 minutes in one week. I’ll see how my body feels but surprisingly I don’t feel too bad.”

If we were to sign Dyer and Bullard both on free transfers, get big Mac and Chuck to sign new deals.. Get rid of Leadbitter and all other out of contract players can go. Then 5/6 £million on a forward and centre back and we should be in great stead to push for promotion next term, it what could be the most talented town side since the late 90's

He's barely changed since he left, try and increase his loan spell for the Norwich game

At 32 Kieron looks knackered. Unlucky with injuries but all that partying has taken its toll.

Bit harsh on Leadbitter I feel. The bloke does work hard and is a good player. I don't want to lose him particularly if Norris goes.

onlyblues and horses:- Maybe we'd all look knackered if we had the worry of how to spend 83 grand a week.Would I still go to Primark ?

Why is he not fitter, has he not been training with West Ham?

Agree that we should try and retain Dyer and Bullard if they appear to be able to keep their fitness but don't agree that we should let Delaney go - he's pretty good at Championship level and wants to play for us. I reckon we need a recognised right back (not a converted winger) and a forward who'll get us enough goals as long as he hits the target area regularly enough, which is what our current batch don't do bearing in mind the chances they get.

When you have been used to not playing all that time and still picking up that ridiculous amount of money, you must start to lose any motivation to play. I mean he is earning that whether he is out clubbing, or shopping or actually playing. At 32 years old what does he have to prove? he is a millionaire, has played for England and played in premiership.

32 is not past it....both KD and JB have been unlucky with injuries, but i would not say they are past it....look at the cardiff game, 2 class goals from JB. We need that sort of player who can just win games from out of nowhere.

I'm sure that with a few more games KD will be back to full fitness and we will see why he gets paid a reported £83k a week! so hopefully we can extend the loan a bit more....with west ham getting knocked out of the cup, i think the chances are better because they will have less games to worry about now!

He do's look all of 32,but a decade has passed since he was a Town player, and a few ''Newcies'' have passed his lips [prob both ways ] in that time.I think we had best out of him,but if he can put in a few good shifts now fine !.

How on earth are we going to afford Bullard? Let alone Dyer! They are on a combined £135K PER WEEK! I think we need to be realistic here. I doubt either will want to come here on £10K per week and not only that can we afford TWO injury prone players?! I agree it would be nice, but not realistic.

I'd welcome back Kieron and Jimmy with open arms next year. Despite their age and history of injuries, I think they have plenty still to give us. But it's a very big "If," and I don't think we should get too optimistic only to be disappointed later.

Great to see how we can actually atract premier league quality players here again, good sign for the future :) as for Kieron i hope he stays for longer than a month as we can see his full potential- and have him for the scum game!

If Kieron wasn't knackered don't you think he would be helping a pretty thin WHU squad with trying to stay up? WHU tried to get rid of him by paying up his contract in the summer but he refused so he could keep on getting treatment at WH. If he stayed with us he would be an occasional player at best and that would only make sense for us if he was paid on an "as you play" basis. Kieron left us with great talent and a good engine, everything he needed for a career at the highest level. Since then he has been paid lots of money, hopefully saved some of it and failed to win anything. Very sad but there it is.

Glad to see him back. Just so long as we are not paying him his wages.

how can some of you say, sorry but bullard and dyer are past it!. What planet are you on! bullard has come in and bossed the midfield and scored three cracking goals. hes still got at least three more years, and u could see dyers quality at leeds. end of.

not sure about the baby on the way, he was in Ipswich town centre month or two back with a young lad about ten or so wandering shops and what not, i assumed it might have been a son, or possibly little brother, they looked very much like family.....

does he still sponsor some of the youth set up at ITFC? I think he used to pay for the under 11s or something?

With regard to signing Bullard and Dyer permanently, yes Dyer is currently on £83k a week but, with the best will in the world, no team anywhere is going to offer him that sort of money again, so it will be a matter of accepting the best deal on offer. Given the injury record, it is unlikely that any premier league side would offer him more than a 1 year deal, if anything. Depending on what he wants to do during the last years of his career (probably not much more than 2 years left in those legs) a 2 year deal could be enough. As has been pointed out, he has made his millions and it will be up to him whether he wants to end his career playing football or earning as much money as he can...

Bullard is a different challenge, with 2 years remaining on his lucrative deal, and much will depend on how much Hull want him off their wage bill. If Hull and JB can come to a settlement on the remaining years of his contract, then it may be possible to sign him permanently...

Neither deal is hugely likely, but then I would have said it was unlikely they would come in on loan!

By the way, hats off to Clegg for getting the loan deals done!

Too many negative posts on here about Kieron...give him this chance, if he does well, he may want to play for us next year within our Clubs paying structure...just to play and to help to push his home Club upwards?

paulm3paw - KD is an Ipswich kid and supporter and altho he is past his best he has hankered for a return to PR for some time. A couple of half decent seasons from him would be a positive addition to our squad. Money is not the issue, it is the love of his club.
